Volume 1 Chapter 89 - It's like guidance
Since Yoshino-san and Rin-san had each taken down a High Wolf and a Great Eagle while giving me a lecture, it was now my turn to try it out.
I moved to the front, with Yoshino-san and Rin-san walking behind me. It was quiet because the two of them weren’t talking at all. When I was at the back, they had been quite talkative, but now they were completely silent.
“Um, are you two not on good terms or something?”
I found the silence awkward, so I turned around to ask.
“Why do you ask?” “We’re fine. We’ve known each other for a long time.”
Well then, why don’t you talk?
“Why are you both silent?” “We thought it might be distracting.” “We wanted to let you concentrate.”
Apparently, they were being considerate of me.
“No, it’s fine. Just talk normally. The silence makes me more conscious.”
It makes me feel like I’m being scrutinized from behind. Thinking that I’m being watched by two beautiful women makes me a bit nervous. After all, I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life.
“Is that so?”
Rin-san asks Yoshino-san.
“He might be like that. He was talkative when the two of us explored the Coonar Ruins the other day.”
Well, that’s true. I was lonely in the morning, after all.
“Hmm, interesting. Then, what’s this about you not dating Kaede? I don’t get it.”
That? Don’t you have any other topics?
“Uh, well, it’s a long story, but… Oh, there’s a High Wolf.”
As I was about to answer Rin-san, a High Wolf appeared from across the plains.
“Really?” “You got this.” “Yeah. Hey! Come over here!”
I shout at the wolf to draw its aggro.
“No, it’s targeting you from the start.”
Really? I tried using my Taunting skill, but the wolf’s movements didn’t change.
“Fine, whatever. And yes, when I said I’m not dating, I meant it. But in my mind, I already am.”
I draw my sword and answer the previous question.
“I’m even more confused now. And focus on the High Wolf instead!” “It’s just a weakling.” “Good! Keep it up!”
Darn it! My Taunt level is going up!
“Come at me, you tough-looking wolf!”
I take my stance.
“Are you not taunting it?” “Go, Okita-kun!”
Stop talking already…
I keep my stance and calmly wait for the approaching High Wolf.
“Okita-kun, there’s a Great Eagle above you. What will you do?”
Yoshino-san tells me, so I shift my gaze from the High Wolf and look up. Sure enough, the Great Eagle I saw earlier is flying overhead, clearly targeting me.
“Both at the same time… What did I do to deserve this? Well, whatever. I’ll take them both on.”
While thinking I have bad luck, I also consider that dealing with both at the same time is an opportunity to earn more experience points, so I stop the others from intervening.
I keep an eye on the Great Eagle circling above me.
“—Okita-kun!” “I know.”
I stop watching the Great Eagle and step forward. I see the High Wolf leaping at me.
I position my sword horizontally and swing it at the wolf’s gaping mouth, filled with sharp fangs. I let it glide through, and the wolf’s mouth is ripped apart, splitting it in two.
“Okita-kun, above!” “I said I know.”
As the High Wolf turns to smoke and vanishes, I look up. The Great Eagle is diving down, its beak aimed to pierce the top of my head.
I don’t take a stance; I simply throw my sword upwards. The Great Eagle tries to change direction, but my sword pierces its body before it can.
Once I confirm that my sword is lodged in the bird, I take a step back to avoid the falling Great Eagle. It lands on the ground, still impaled by my sword, and writhes a bit before turning into smoke and disappearing.
I check for drops from the High Wolf and the Great Eagle, but unfortunately, all I find are fangs and feathers.
“No potion, huh…”
Considering that both the High Wolf and the Great Eagle attacked me at the same time, if there were a “luck” parameter, mine would be low.
“Good job.” “You’re really unlucky, huh.”
Yoshino-san kindly congratulates me, while Rin-san laughs cheerfully.
“I feel like Rin-san drained all the luck from me today.”
I pick up the fangs and feathers and put them in my bag.
“Well, that happens. Let’s move on.” “I have a feeling another healing potion will drop.” “I don’t think it will.”
After that, we continued down the highway, taking turns defeating monsters.
