Pestilence: Rise Of The Pure Undead

Chapter 359: Surely, It Will

The two knights looked upon the catches of their scouts, most were actually just regular animals, quite a lot of mice, snakes, monkeys that were just a bit bigger than human newborns, only a few birds, one anteater and one jaguar.

They had only managed to wrestle a single monster into submission, having to hit it over the head multiple times over, some sort of wolf-like creature with the fur pattern of a tiger, no tail and porcupine spikes running all along its spine, whatever it was, a soldier had beaten it senseless with his fists and carried it there.

Using the bone needles with precision, stabbing each and every of the captured creatures through their forehead, piercing their brains, forming a crystal of condensed festering death force directly within.

This method was always certain to turn the target into an undead, bolstering the available forces of the knights with beasts, they had not been allowed to use the ones kept within the ship, that would have made things too easy considering the number of them, as well as the strength some could demonstrate.

"They found two tribes in total, one of them wearing loincloth tied at the back, the others, tied at the front, that's about the only difference that was noticed, should we assault one of them immediately, and use the corpses of those to launch an assault on other tribes, luring the livings to this particular area to incite an all out battle?" one said, thinking to use their violent dispositions to let them weaken one another before swooping in.

"I was thinking to get a good idea of all of the lesser tribes positions, grab one member from each, and sent them all to the greater tribes, to make them believe that all of the smaller groups were coming together to take it off its spot, if the greater tribe is that much greater than them, and just as violent, they shall easily crush the rest in retaliation, considering that they are not actually unified" the other had his own idea, they looked at one another for a few seconds, both ideas could work and fulfil the condition they had been given, but which was the most efficient, and the most likely to work out?

Both plans relied on the goblins to react in a certain way, relying on the whims of the living was a dangerous game, they were wholly irrational most of the time, thankfully, although living, the goblins possessed simple minds, they hated the other tribes with a passion that required much time of study to fully understand, it was generational and had been as such for plenty of generations, many as the goblins did not live for very long, usually dying young to combat or beasts, at most, they would live to their thirties.

Loved beings they were, to only have to live for so long, surely, they would accept death's embrace without much question.

The two knights debated for a little while, nearly impossible to tell apart when garbed in their armours, they sounded the same, they behaved the same, sole difference being that their respective swords were strapped on opposite sides, one being right handed, one left handed.

In the end, they sought the opinions of the rank and file as well, and it was decided that Loimos would certainly prefer if they engaged in the trickiest option, dispelling their enemies without actually challenging them to a fight, as such, even though it made no doubts that the presence of the soldiers had been noticed, they remained barred inside of their camp during the dim day, only coming out at night, the scouts taking goblins and beasts when none could see.

Indeed, the goblins hunted during the day, they were not nocturnal in the least, and with all nights being without a speck of light, they could only rely on the illumination of mundane flames to guide themselves at this time, and when a minimum of two undeads attacked a solitary goblin, there was no fighting back, the kidnappers did no hesitate to use overwhelming force, the state of a would-be undead mattered little, even if already dead, it would work out.

The goblins were not so easily duped of course, they were well aware to something was taking their peoples at night, but not all tribes knew of the strange camp that had appeared upon the shores, and thus, not all could put their suspicion on this unknown quantity, instead shoving the blame on the usual suspects, all that did not belong to their own tribe.

In this state, even if some definitely thought that it was the beings from somewhere else, they could not put their suspicions to the test, tensions were growing, as the corpses mounted within the undead encampment, hidden from view.

Indeed, in the end, they had found a way to implement both of the first ideas into one, blaming others for their own actions was easy, the livings did well enough on their own, and since they refused to calmly communicate with one another, the knights didn't have to think too deeply about it, Loimos had been generous with them, their targets sabotaged their own chances of survival.

Actively feuding with one another, the goblins did not pay any attention to them, the soldiers preparing their little group of undead goblins, keeping the beasts in reserve, it would be too suspicious if the jungle creatures fought side by side with them.

Unlike the first idea to only get one goblin from each lesser tribe, it had been decided to just keep going with it, resulting in tensions rising, and in greater striking force against the greater tribe, it was a very simple plan, but it was not like they needed to tread through a complex governmental system, varying ideologies and such, the overall population was small and already divided.

They had been at it for nearly two weeks already though, and the lesser tribes were on the verge of going fully into conflict, it was time to put all of those cold goblins to good use, raising their blades high, the two knights uttered words of encouragement in death tongue, to little use, the dead goblins were mindless but undeads they were still.

The orders they were given was to fight fiercely and act as lively as was possible, although unlikely that any here knew what an undead was.

"What will we do if it fails?" asked the left handed knight?

"Do not speak of misfortune, there is no reason for them to not react to such an attack, they already hold the reins on this island, if their hold is challenged, they will defend it ferociously, I am certain, if they just took it without saying anything, wouldn't that paint them as weak?" the right handed knight spoke, convinced that it would surely work out exactly as intended.
