Chapter 17 - Meng Yun’s Misunderstanding

Chapter 17: Meng Yun’s Misunderstanding

“Hey! We meet again. Do you remember me?”

Lin Jia looked up at Yang Yu, gave a polite smile, and said, “Hello.”

And that was it.

She pulled her suitcase and walked right past him.

Yang Yu felt utterly frustrated.

Awkwardly, he hurried after her and said, “Miss Lin Jia, wait a moment. Ding Dian asked me to pick you up.”

Lin Jia turned around and looked at him. “There’s no need to trouble you, Mr. Yang. I can take a taxi.” She firmly declined.

Faced with Lin Jia’s indifference, Yang Yu was at a complete loss. He didn’t even know how to continue the conversation.

Seeing her standing at a distance, still waiting for a taxi, Yang Yu had no choice but to call Ding Dian for help. He explained the situation, only to hear her burst into laughter.

“Haha! I told you Lin Jia isn’t easy to approach. How does it feel to get shut down? Serves you right!” Ding Dian teased.

“Yes, yes, Miss Ding, you’re brilliant—the female Zhuge Liang. So what do I do now?” Yang Yu flattered her.

“Give her the phone. I’ll talk to her,” Ding Dian said with a smile.

Yang Yu walked back to Lin Jia and handed her the phone, meeting her puzzled gaze.

“It’s Ding Dian. You should talk to her,” he said.

Lin Jia took the phone. Whatever Ding Dian told her, it took almost ten minutes of hushed conversation before she finally hung up.

When she returned the phone, she was like a different person. She smiled, wrapped her arms around Yang Yu’s, and tiptoed close to his ear.

“Help me carry my luggage. I’ll get in the car first,” she whispered.

From a distance, it almost looked like she kissed him.

With that, she opened the car door and got in, leaving Yang Yu grinning like a fool as he hurried to carry her luggage.

Inside the car, Lin Jia felt her face heat up. She quickly fanned herself with her hands.

This was all part of Ding Dian’s plan—she had suggested Lin Jia act affectionate with Yang Yu to make Meng Yun jealous. Ding Dian confidently assured her that Meng Yun would be watching from his window, and seeing this would make him panic and try to win her back.

Normally, Lin Jia wouldn’t agree to such a scheme, but fresh from the breakup, she was emotionally shaken and not thinking clearly.

As it turned out, Ding Dian’s guess was spot on.

At that very moment, Meng Yun was indeed watching from his window.

His fists clenched, his eyes burned red, and he glared furiously below.

“That damn woman! We just broke up, and now she’s all over this rich playboy? Were they involved this whole time?” he spat through gritted teeth.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Given Lin Jia’s personality, there was no way she would get that close to a man she had just met.

They must have been seeing each other behind his back.

No wonder she was constantly finding excuses to pick fights with him—she already had someone else!

Rage took over, and Meng Yun began trashing his apartment in a fit of fury.

His mind was flooded with images of betrayal, and all he could see was an endless field of green above his head…

Meanwhile, Yang Yu finished loading the luggage, got into the car, and stepped on the gas. The engine roared as they sped away.

He tried striking up a conversation, but Lin Jia had already reverted to her usual aloof self, barely responding to him.

Yang Yu immediately realized what had happened—her affectionate act was just for Meng Yun’s sake.

A wave of frustration hit him.

The rest of the ride was silent.

Soon, they arrived at Ding Dian’s apartment complex.

Yang Yu parked and got out to help with the luggage.

Ding Dian was already waiting downstairs.

Lin Jia stepped out of the car and turned to Yang Yu. “Thank you, Mr. Yang, but I can carry my luggage myself.”

Without waiting for his response, she took her suitcase and started walking away.

Once again, Yang Yu found himself standing there awkwardly.

He was beginning to wonder if he would even be able to complete his first mission in this world.

At that moment, Ding Dian stepped in to smooth things over.

“Let him carry it. Come on, let’s go upstairs. Tell me what happened between you and Meng Yun. You two were fine just a few days ago—why the sudden breakup?” she asked.

Lin Jia hesitated, then lowered her voice. “What’s your relationship with him?”

“He’s just my neighbor. What else could it be? Don’t you trust me?” Ding Dian replied with a playful smile.

Yang Yu followed behind them, thinking to himself, Women are born actresses. They put on a show so effortlessly.

Lin Jia still looked skeptical. “A guy who drives such an expensive car lives in this apartment complex? I don’t buy it.”

“He’s rich. He can live wherever he wants. I don’t control that,” Ding Dian countered.

“Hmph,” Lin Jia scoffed.

As they walked, they whispered in hushed voices.

Before long, they reached Ding Dian’s apartment.

Yang Yu set down the luggage, but Lin Jia made no move to invite him in for coffee or even acknowledge his presence.

Sensing his cue, Yang Yu took the initiative to step back.

“I won’t bother you two beautiful ladies. If you need anything, just call me—I’m always available,” he said.

With that, he turned and left, feeling utterly defeated.
