Chapter 971 - 969 Mocking His Weakness and Incompetence
Chapter 971: Chapter 969 Mocking His Weakness and Incompetence
Mu Jinyan, putting down his chopsticks, looked at Old Madam Mu and responded very seriously, “Indeed, it was not fair for Wen Xin to suffer this injustice, after all, she had nothing to do with that girl.”
At that moment, Mu Chengxi had locked himself in the study. He tried to calm himself, but the thought that even Wen Xin wanted to control him using extreme measures was more than he could bear, and he could not control his emotions anymore.
Now his mind was filled with memories of his past years; he even dared not recall how he had managed to survive those years. The journey had been too difficult; he dared not look back.
What he found most unbearable was not being manipulated by his own family but the merciless manner in which Wen Xin had attacked him. Seeing her actions at that moment had filled him with despair.
He could forsake all choices and bottom lines for her, but he had never expected that Wen Xin would use the thing he most dreaded against him at that time. He found it truly unbearable.
Mu Bei kept dialing Mu Chengxi’s phone over and over again, even calling everyone associated with Mu Chengxi, but still could not find any trace of him.
After making another round of calls, Mu Bei saw Wen Xin carrying a suitcase downstairs. He was slightly stunned by her actions and felt a sudden panic in his heart, quickly approaching her.
“Miss Wen, Master Xi hasn’t returned yet. Aren’t you going to wait for Master Xi?”
Mu Bei’s words made Wen Xin stop in her tracks. She looked at Mu Bei with an indifferent gaze, revealing a resigned smile.
“I can’t wait any longer. The airplane is already delayed. If he wanted to accompany me, he should be by my side by now. Since he is not, it means he simply does not want to go with me; waiting or not, the outcome will be the same.”
In that instant, Wen Xin seemed to become a different person; this reminded Mu Bei of the first time he saw Wen Xin—she had been just as cold then.
Mu Bei stared at Wen Xin, unwilling to give up, tried to say something else. Wen Xin turned around, pressing her finger to her lips, making a silencing gesture to indicate that it was unnecessary for Mu Bei to say more.
Wen Xin’s actions frightened Mu Bei into silence, finally satisfied, Wen Xin carried her suitcase and left the courtyard of the Mu family’s old mansion.
In the airport, those who were prepared to go to Independent State with Wen Xin were all waiting in the lounge, but they were all surprised to see her entering alone with her suitcase.
“Young lady, why have you come alone? Where is Mr. Mu Chengxi? Don’t you have some other arrangements?”
Chu Yunxuan was a very straightforward person; she asked whatever she wanted to know without considering anything else.
Wen Xin, upon hearing Chu Yunxuan’s question, merely gave her a faint glance, her emotions showing no disturbance as she sat down beside Chu Yunxuan.
“What? Can’t we eat this meal without him?”
Wen Xin did not want to explain her situation with Mu Chengxi and did not want them to know at this moment; she did not want them imagining a series of troublesome scenarios. There really was no need for that.
Chu Yunxuan sensed that Wen Xin’s mood was off. She wanted to ask what had happened, but after glancing at the people in the lounge, she shut her mouth, not uttering a word of nonsense.
In Independent State, Moore sat across from Alfredo’s desk, holding a handful of sunflower seeds. With each seed he ate, the shells carelessly landed on the floor.
Alfredo, disturbed by the sound of Moore cracking sunflower seeds, became very irritable. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, he put down what he was holding and frowned at Moore.
“Don’t you have anything else to do? You’ve already cracked open two bags of seeds here—what exactly are you doing in my office?”
Alfredo spoke through clenched teeth, his voice low. He was eager to find out Moore’s purpose for being there. Could it be just to bother him?
“If you have something to say, just say it. I don’t have time to mess around here with you!”
“You do your thing; I’m just passing the time here. You just mind your own business. Lately, the Independent State has become the Elders Guild’s world. I’m really worried that you might lose all your power overnight.”
Moore, aware that Wen Xin would be coming back to handle the situation, still couldn’t help but mock Alfredo’s impotence. Despite holding power in his hands, his overly submissive nature made no one want to offend him.
Alfredo could, of course, tell that Moore was finding fault in others’ weaknesses, but he was powerless to refute and had to let Moore sarcastically criticize him.
Moore, seeing Alfredo didn’t respond, suddenly grew angry. He felt that they had no chance of winning at all, which was incredibly frustrating.
“Hey, as a chairman, to not take charge is just pathetic. If I were in your position, first things first, I’d eliminate all those old folks in Independent State and not even give them a chance.”
Moore’s words were met with nothing but a cold laugh from Alfredo.
“Hey, what are you laughing at? Where am I wrong? You should think about it—if those major families had been dealt with earlier, there wouldn’t be so much trouble now. You’ve already lost control of the situation.”
Unable to suppress his irritation, Moore thought about what would happen if Wen Xin returned. He was sure she would have to deal with these difficult issues. Wen Xin was the one who loathed trouble the most, he wondered if she had the patience to handle it.
Moreover, Moore was also worried that the families in the Elders Guild were too powerful for Wen Xin to handle by herself, not to mention the Old Fox Wen’s boundless ambition. With enemies on all sides, her situation didn’t look good.
Alfredo, seeing Moore’s serious look, sighed helplessly. He probably guessed why Moore had such a strong opinion of him.
“I have my own reasons and rationale for not taking action. The Elders Guild may have the strength, but don’t forget—the little princess’s identity trumps everything. Not only does she have the power to veto, but she also has the power to decide. Even the Old Fox from the Wen family has to acknowledge Wen Xin’s status. So what are you worried about?”
Alfredo spoke calmly. He had always felt that Wen Xin did not want to control Independent State; therefore, he believed that as long as Independent State did not trouble Wen Xin, there was nothing else to worry about.
Listening to Alfredo’s analysis, Moore felt he was too naive. It was somewhat amusing that he had no clue what his own master wanted to do.
Now, it seemed the only option was to wait for Wen Xin to return and give her a good lesson.
