Chapter 35: Chapter 35 The Flaxan Issue Part 1

Hello again 💀 Been a while folks truly my bad. But I think I've got inspiration again after watching the new season 🤧.

Before we get into it tho I will make it known that I have made some changes. For starters the Pitt will no longer be a main member of the team if anything he might just make a background appearance. I just couldn't write the guy no matter how hard I tried and it left me stumped for quite a while. So instead of remaining stuck I just decided to move on.

Second is the harem I brought it down to two because its too difficultto write such a complex relationship. I know my limits so it truly is a skill issue. Besides that I hope you guys enjoy this chapter as I begin writing more future chapters!

…

The streets of downtown Chicago were eerily empty. A few stray pieces of litter blew across the cracked pavement, caught in the gusts of wind generated by the massive portal that hung ominously in the sky above. Buildings loomed on either side, their windows dark and shattered, abandoned as the citizens had been evacuated. A faint hum radiated from the swirling, glowing vortex, casting a strange light across the city.

On the ground, the Teen Team was gathered, but the atmosphere was far from united. Instead of focusing on the portal the obvious threat their attention was elsewhere.

"Seriously, Rex?" Atom Eve's voice cut through the tension like a blade, her usually calm demeanor replaced by a fury that barely contained itself. She stood with her arms crossed, her bright pink energy aura flaring sporadically, a sign of her emotional state. "You think this is the right time for your crap?"

Rex Splode, always quick to escalate, threw his hands up defensively, his signature cocky smirk replaced with a scowl. "Oh, come on, Eve. I told you it was a mistake. It was just a—"

"A mistake?" Eve interrupted, her eyes blazing. "You slept with Kate. You went behind my back and—"

"You weren't exactly innocent either!" Rex shot back, glaring at her. "You and Invincible, sneaking off together all the time? What the hell am I supposed to think?"

Invincible, standing awkwardly a few feet away, shifted uncomfortably at the mention of his name. He had been trying to focus on the portal, scanning it for any signs of emerging enemies, but the argument between Rex and Eve was hard to ignore.

"Don't drag me into this," Mark muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. "I didn't do anything."

"Yeah, Mark didn't do anything," Eve snapped at Rex, emphasizing his real name with venom. "We were working, Rex! Maybe if you weren't so insecure, you'd see that instead of jumping to conclusions and acting like a complete—"

Dupli-Kate, standing off to the side with her arms folded across her chest, rolled her eyes and sighed. "Can we just drop this, please? Now isn't exactly the best time for relationship drama." She flicked her gaze over to Eve, who shot her a glare that could burn a hole through steel.

"Oh, now you want to drop it? How convenient for you, Kate," Eve spat, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You're just as guilty as Rex. Both of you ruined this team."

The tension between them was palpable, thick enough to cut with a knife. Rex clenched his fists, his knuckles white as he struggled to contain his temper. "I didn't ruin anything. You were practically throwing yourself at Invincible. What was I supposed to think?"

"Maybe talk to me before assuming the worst!" Eve snapped, her energy flaring again as the air around her crackled. "But no, you went and screwed Kate behind my back. How could you even—"

"Guys!" Invincible finally stepped forward, holding up his hands. "Can we just focus on the giant portal in the sky? You know, the one that could bring an army of aliens down on the city at any second?"

"I agree," Dupli-Kate chimed in, her voice tight. "We don't have time for this right now."

Rex sneered at Mark, his anger shifting. "Oh, now you want to play the hero, huh? Acting like you're so above it all. Bet you're loving this, right? Finally, Eve is single, and now you can swoop in and—"

"Shut up, Rex!" Eve shouted, her hands balling into fists as she took a step toward him. "This is exactly why we're done. You're insecure, selfish, and you can't handle any kind of responsibility. We're supposed to be a team, but you can't think of anyone but yourself!"

"Wow, okay, I'm the selfish one?" Rex scoffed, throwing his hands up. "You're the one who's been all cozy with Invincible, and I'm the bad guy for doing something about it? Give me a break!"

"Doing something about it?" Eve's voice was dangerously low now, her energy shimmering around her in waves. "You didn't 'do something about it,' Rex. You cheated. You broke my trust. This isn't about Invincible, it's about you not being able to handle your own insecurities."

"Enough" Robot commanded, his voice booming like a speaker as he stepped between them. He wasn't a master of emotions per day but he'd seen enough hero teams die because of it so he wasn't about to wait and watch. "Before us is a portal with aliens who we only won against due to their time running out. Considering that they are returning, it's safe to assume this problem has been solved. Now as things stand we are more disorganized than ever before leaving our chances lower than before."

For a moment, the group fell into an uneasy silence, the only sound being the faint hum of the portal overhead. Robots words were without emotions and straight to the point stating the facts of their situation. So no one could disagree with him on that part well except for an idiot.

"Easy to say for you robot. I doubt you ever have girl trouble unless maybe you do have a girl! Perhaps Siri on my phone?"

"Ugh!" At this point, everyone just groaned trying to ignore Rex's nonsense when the portal in front of them finally began reacting as shadows began appearing on the other side.

The Teen Team, fractured though they were, braced themselves for whatever was coming.

They didn't have the luxury of their personal drama anymore. The real fight was about to begin.

As the portal crackled and widened, the tension on the ground was palpable. Rex's hands began to glow with red energy, his impulsive nature already getting the better of him. He took a few steps forward, ready to launch an attack.

"Alright! Finally, I get to blast something" Rex snarled, his eyes narrowing as figures began to emerge from the swirling vortex.

"Wait!" Mark grabbed Rex's arm, holding him back just in time. "You don't know what you're doing!"

"Let go of me, man!" Rex struggled against Mark's grip, his anger flaring. "They're Flaxans, the same guys who invaded before! We need to take them out now!"

Mark didn't let go, his eyes focused on the figures stepping through the portal. "Look at them, Rex. They're not soldiers."

Rex paused, finally taking in the scene before him. Unlike the armored warriors they had faced during the last invasion, these Flaxans were dressed in tattered clothing, their movements slow and labored. Some of them were limping, others clutching injured comrades. Bandages covered their bodies, and their faces were gaunt, worn with exhaustion and fear. Among the group were women, children, and elderly Flaxans, all looking terrified.

"What the hell...?" Rex muttered, his energy flickering out as he lowered his arms. "This doesn't make sense. Where's the army? Where's the tanks?"

"I don't know," Mark said, stepping forward cautiously, his eyes scanning the group. "But these aren't soldiers. They look like refugees."

The two heroes exchanged a glance, but before Rex could argue, Eve walked up, her expression softened by the sight of the injured Flaxans. She had been silent since the argument, but now her concern overpowered her anger. "Mark's right. These people aren't a threat."

"But they're still Flaxans!" Rex insisted, his frustration boiling over. "What if this is just some trick? What if they're trying to lure us into dropping our guard and then—"

"Rex, shut up," Eve snapped, her eyes hard. "Look at them. They're scared. They're hurt. They need help, not a fight."

Rex opened his mouth to argue again, but before he could, more Flaxans began to stumble through the portal, further confirming their suspicions. Entire families came through now, children clinging to their parents as they limped into the city, their eyes wide with fear. Some were covered in soot and ash, while others had clearly been injured during their escape.

The sound of weak, strained cries filled the air as the Flaxans huddled together, searching for safety. Even from where they stood, the Teen Team could see the desperation in their eyes, the way they flinched at every sudden movement, as though expecting an attack at any moment.

"Rex," Mark said quietly, "this isn't an invasion."

Rex stared at the group, his frustration slowly melting away as he realized the truth. "I still don't like this," he muttered under his breath, but his tone had softened. "Something's off."

As the group of Flaxans continued to spill out of the portal, the last of them finally made it through—civilians barely able to stand, some of them leaning on each other for support. The portal behind them flickered for a moment, and then, with a sudden rush of energy, it sealed shut, leaving the group stranded in the middle of the desolate city.

Dupli-Kate stepped forward, her face filled with confusion. "Why would they come here? Why run to Earth of all places?"

"I don't know," Eve said, her voice calm as she approached the group. "But we need to find out."

The lead Flaxan—a tall, injured male with half his body wrapped in crude bandages—stepped forward, his posture weak and trembling. He raised a hand in what appeared to be a gesture of peace, but his voice was low and desperate as he spoke in rough English.

"We surrender"

"Oh come on!" Rex groaned when he realized there wasn't going to be a fight.

Cecil was in a conference room with his staff. He was about ready to dispatch squads to the scene when he received news he didn't expect. The invasion had already ended… Why? Because it wasn't even an invasion in the first place but a large group of refugees.

"Well, you all heard him. Not an invasion." Cecil said with a dry tone but honestly, this situation might become one that is more tiring.

At Least a war was simple but this could go plenty of different ways. But first, they needed to deal with the obvious and that was the refugees. They couldn't exactly go to US customs and needed to be handled by the GDA before anything could even begin.

"Donald, do we have holding areas for this amount of people?"

"Yes we have several and we even took into consideration that they may want to stick together"

"Good. Have some teams arrive and please keep the reporters away from the scene. We don't want them starting anything like the Molemen incident."

Donald simply grumbled at the memory.

The Molemen incident should have been fairly simple. They were an ancient civilization living under the earth and wanted to establish connections with the world above. So far so good right?

Well, things fell through when a bright reporter thought it would be nice to pet one of them because they were furry. Little did they know but that molemen was the princess and what the reporter did was equal to sexual harassment. Luckily things didn't get too far because they gave the Reporter the Molemen and calmed things down but mistakes like that should be kept down to the minimum.

"I'll do my best sir"

"Good" Giving his final word Cecil left the conference room and entered his dimly lit office.

"You can come out Damian" Cecil said as a puff came out of his mouth due to the low temperatures.

Following his words a red-skinned man soon appeared from the shadows wearing detective clothing. He had his hands in his pockets and looked slightly irritated but this could have just been his natural facial expression.

"Any clues on what happened?"

"I checked most of your staff and it wasn't one of them but your systems were definitely compromised. Specifically your robots."

This was not good news. Not at all. If even their robots were out of their control then it meant most equipment in the building was out of their control and likely compromised as well. The question is who and why?

"Any clue on who's responsible"

"Hard to say. I saw a figure but they were too fast. So I need more time"

Too fast?

Red Rush maybe? No, he doesn't have a reason but as Cecil thought about this he suddenly realized that there is one person fast enough. Someone who might just be faster than Red Rush and may even be interested in the GDA itself.

"Drop the investigation I can handle it from here"

Cecil's quick call caught the demon off guard. Why would he want to call it quits now? But when he looked at Cecil's eyes he saw something he'd seen in humans before.

Fear

The kind one has when they imagine something that can not be beat or trifled with. It seemed like he knew who was responsible… so his services truly were no longer required but could he just accept that? Damian Darkblood may be a detective for hire but at the end of the day he was a demon and like many other demons he represented a sin. With his being greed. The greed for knowledge, to figure out the unknown, and discover all hidden truths.

"Alright then. I'll expect the usual payment then" Turning around Damian walked out of the office without arguing but Cecil just sighed in place.

He had a feeling this wasn't over. He knew a lot about Damian. There's no way he'd knowingly hire a demon without proper investigation and what he knew was that he usually followed through. He never gave up a case but this wasn't his problem now.

No, his main issue was cleaning up the GDA's systems and starting over from scratch.
