Chapter 17: A Fruitful Day!
Sullivan and Opera returned to Sullivan's office after their conversation with Izuku. Neither of them said a single word on the way, both preoccupied with their own thoughts. How could they not be, considering the bombshell Izuku had dropped on them?
The things he told them were so bizarre that, under normal circumstances, one might have considered him insane. However, considering the look in his eyes, the tone he used, and the timing he chose to reveal his secret, it's clear that none of his statements could be dismissed as mere jest.
Reincarnation, a term often found in stories designed to entertain children, frequently serves as a plot device in revenge and fantasy tales. It usually bestows an advantage upon the protagonist over others in the world. Nevertheless, the idea of living with a boy who had lived an entirely different life in another world, only to die and be reborn in their own world, was undeniably bizarre. How could one not find something like this utterly perplexing?
The world Izuku described to them proved just as fascinating and unusual as his own story. It was a place where humans were born with unique meta-abilities or superpowers known as quirks. To simplify, it was akin to bloodline magic but more physical in nature. Their intrigue to learn more about these quirks was evident, yet it was amusing to watch Izuku attempt to restrain himself from delving into a tangent about them.
Then there was the boy himself, Izuku Midoriya, and his story - a tale equally captivating and unsettling, depending on one's perspective. His journey was marked by heroic feats that had the potential to reshape one's perception of the boy entirely. However, each of his ventures also carried accounts of injuries no young boy should ever have to endure. What made it disconcerting was the fond expression on his face as he recounted those scars, once scattered across his body, almost like badges of honor.
And then there was his power: One for All, a legacy forged to vanquish the greatest evil of his former world. The legacy of eight generations now resides within Izuku's grasp, even in his new life—a reward for accomplishing his mission and putting an end to the harbinger of evil, albeit at the expense of his own life. When they tried to question him about it, the boy chose not to speak, instead offering a sad smile.
Sullivan and Opera settled into their usual spots, a lingering silence between them as they both remained engrossed in their own thoughts. Finally, Sullivan decided to break the silence. "So, Opera, what do you think?"
"I don't believe he's lying, my lord," Opera replied.
"You seem quite sure about it," Sullivan remarked, his lips curling into an amused smile.
"Telling a straight-faced lie is not Izuku-sama's forte, so you will often notice him either trying to evade subjects he wishes not to discuss or addressing them directly. And when he lies, it is quite easy to read it on his face," Opera explained. "Besides, he's the one who decided to disclose his secret to us. What reason do you think he would have to lie to us?"
"Well, that certainly is true," Sullivan nodded his head. "And that also explains the origin of his powers as well... powers that humans of our world don't possess." The expression on Sullivan's face then turned grim as he asked, "Say, Opera, what do you think would happen if humans from our world started developing these quirks?"
"I can't say I know for sure, but the likelihood of a war between both worlds would increase significantly," Opera said with a stoic expression. "Some demons would see humans with powers as a threat. Some would take it as an affront to their pride, seeing a race they consider inferior developing a tool to bridge the gap. Others would seek to attack the human world just for the thrill of fighting a formidable opponent. Regardless of the cause, it would surely disrupt the peace of both worlds."
Sullivan nodded thoughtfully, sinking into deep thought once more.
"By the way, what are your plans regarding the requests Izuku-sama has put forth?" Opera inquired.
"Ah, about that," Sullivan responded, his hand absently stroking his chin. "I don't see any problem with it. After all, as Izuku's guardians, it is our responsibility to provide him with the best."
"Absolutely, my lord," Opera agreed, a faint smile gracing their lips.

Meanwhile, Izuku stood in his room, gazing out of the window at the twin moons in the sky, his mind filled with numerous thoughts.
'Izuku, are you alright?' Nana asked, her voice tinged with worry and concern.
'What do you mean?' Izuku asked.
'You know perfectly well what I'm referring to, Izuku,' Nana said wearily. 'This is the first time you've shared your story with someone... and no, I don't count, since I already knew about your past.'
"It feels like I just dropped a huge load off my shoulders," Izuku sighed deeply. "But it still feels surreal to share this with anyone. I mean, how do you even believe in something like reincarnation? Hell, even I sometimes feel like my first life was just a dream, but then, you and One for All serve as reminders that my past life was indeed real... Izuku Midoriya was a boy who once lived, died, and was born again."
Then a silence descended between the two before Nana broke it. 'So, when are you planning to tell Ameri about this?'
"I... I don't know," Izuku confessed. "Honestly, I'm unsure if I should."
'Why? I thought you were pretty close back then,' Nana said. 'Or are you going to assume the role of a clueless harem protagonist, oblivious to women's affections?' She rolled her eyes. 'Do you even realize that Ochako used to-'
"I'm aware that Ochako had feelings for me," Izuku interjected. "I'm not an idiot, Nana. I wasn't completely oblivious to her affections, but back then, I had so much on my plate that I couldn't spare a thought for it," he sighed. "With the responsibility of mastering One for All and constant villain attacks, I never had a moment's rest to think about relationships and such. And then, in the span of two months, we faced two wars. The latter of which claimed my life. So, tell me, when did I even have the chance to reciprocate her feelings?"
'And what about now?' Nana asked. 'Now you're just an ordinary boy *Izuku scoffed* attending school. So what's your excuse now?'
"It's just that I don't want to burden anyone with the emotional baggage I carry," Izuku said. "Especially when it comes to Ameri. She doesn't deserve to be tied to someone like me."
'You know what your problem is, Izuku? Every time something related to you comes up, you imagine the worst-case scenario. Then, you start ignoring all the good traits of those people around you because clouds of negativity and self-deprecation cloud your mind,' Nana remarked in a tired voice. 'What I'm trying to say is, why don't you let Ameri decide what she wants to do once she learns the truth?' Nana suggested.
Izuku remained silent for a moment before responding, "Fine... but not right now."
'I don't mind, Izuku. Just don't repeat the mistakes that I made,' Nana said gently, a sad smile gracing her lips. 'Trust me, kid, pushing away people you care about never ends well.'
There were many thoughts swirling in Izuku's mind at that moment, but he chose to remain silent, postpone the conversation for now, and retire to his bed for the night.
******
The next day, Izuku found himself standing in a training field beneath the mansion, dressed in his training clothes. On the other side of the field stood Opera, calmly observing him while still dressed in a butler uniform.
Now, you might be wondering what's going on here. Well, you see, when Izuku told Sullivan and Opera about his past last night, he also made two requests from them. The situation Izuku found himself in right now is part of his first request: he asked Opera to train him in hand-to-hand combat and help him draw out a higher percentage of One for All.
"Now, before we start, I have a few questions for you," Opera began, "First of all, could you explain to me what seems to be the problem with drawing out more power from this quirk of yours?"
"Well, you see, up until now, I've been gradually increasing the percentage of power I can use without injuring myself. But once I reached 50%, I noticed that extracting more power became exceedingly difficult," Izuku explained. "That's why I'm hoping to train with you to toughen up my body and increase the power I can harness from my quirk."
Opera nodded and asked the next question. "What else can you do?" he inquired. "I have seen you do various things, but I'd like to know exactly what you're capable of."
"Okay, so there's a strength enhancer, Danger Sense that allows me to sense anyone with malicious intent towards me, Float that lets me fly, Smoke Screen that allows me to create smoke around me, and lastly," Izuku said as he sent out a single tendril of Blackwhip and pulled a nearby bottle of water toward him. "This is Blackwhip, my other offensive ability that only Sabnock is aware of."
"You certainly have a wide array of abilities," Opera remarked. "My last question is, why do you seek more power than you already have?" they asked with sharp eyes. "I will be honest with you, my lord. With the amount of power you possess right now, you could easily go through six years of school without much trouble at all. Moreover, with Sullivan-sama's support, you could lead a very carefree life. So, why do you want to subject yourself to so much hardship when there doesn't seem to be a particular need for it?"
"Honestly, because I want to keep all of you safe, that's why," Izuku replied. "The first time Grandpa brought me here, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into and went along with his whimsical nature because I didn't have any motivation or objective in my life," he explained, a fond smile appearing on his face. "But the more time I spent here, the more people I genuinely started to care about. I found people who are worth dying for once again, but... this time I don't want to die." Izuku steeled his eyes and clenched his fist. "I want to live... live with them and keep them safe. That's my ambition. So, Opera, please help me achieve it," he said with a bow.
Opera stood there silently, observing Izuku after his heartfelt confession. 'I don't know why Sullivan-sama brought a human kid back to the demon world or what he was thinking at the time, but I'm sure he wasn't expecting to bring back a kid with such an astonishing past and such drive to protect people around him,' they thought, a small smile appearing on their lips.
"Please raise your head, Izuku-sama," Opera said, prompting Izuku to lift his head. "As a security demon of Lord Sullivance, I would be honored to help the grandson of my esteemed lord achieve his dream," Opera said, looking directly at Izuku.
"Thank you, Opera. This means a lot," Izuku replied with a heartfelt smile.
"Now then, Izuku-sama, instead of solely focusing on raising the percentage of your strength enhancer, I think we should also work on fighting techniques and integrating your other abilities into your fighting style," Opera suggested.
"I don't mind," Izuku shook his head. "I am trusting you with my training, so I will follow your lead and won't complain unless it's something too extreme."
"Thank you for putting your trust in me, my lord," Opera said, a determined look in their eyes. "And now, I will assess your current abilities. So, Izuku-sama, come at me with everything you have."
******
In the afternoon, Izuku sat in his room, massaging his sore muscles after Opera's morning training.
'Opera really put you through the wringer,' Nana said with a chuckle. 'It was fun to see them playing you like a fiddle, even when using One for All.'
''I'm pretty sure I came close to hitting them a couple of times, but honestly, their instincts are really scary to go up against,' Izuku remarked. I can be rather predictable at times too... something to work on, I suppose.'
Then he heard a knock on the door, and Opera peeked inside the room. "Izuku-sama, there is someone here to see you."
"See me?" Izuku asked, wondering who it could be. His first thought, of course, was that it could be one of his friends since they didn't get much time to hang out during the entire Battler event.
"Actually, it's regarding your second request, my lord," Opera informed him, causing Izuku's eyes to widen in surprise.
"Oh, okay," Izuku said, rising from his seat. "I'll be there in five." Opera nodded and left.
Now, what is this second request, you ask? Well, Izuku asked Sullivan and Opera for help to improve his grades, which were bad... really bad. He wasn't even able to reach passing grades, which honestly made Izuku cry.
In his previous life, when it came to grades, he was always in the top half of the class. But here, he felt ashamed to even look at his teacher while collecting the results. The reason for that was the fact that he didn't understand what he was reading at all. Sullivan's magic translated the demon language for him, and writing the demon language was surprisingly easy as well. However, at the end of the day, nothing really mattered when he didn't know the meanings of most of those words.
That's why he had asked for his family's help, and it seems they have already found something or someone to assist him.
So after changing into some presentable clothes, Izuku made his way down the stairs and entered the living room. There, he was confronted by a towering demon with muscular arms, bird-like legs from his knees down, and long white hair that cascaded over a mask covering the lower half of his face.
Another thing he noticed was that, instead of introducing himself, the demon in front of him just kept staring at him as if trying to study him. However, before anything could happen, Opera appeared. "Shichiro, stop that. You're making the young master uneasy," they said to the demon in front of him.
"Forgive me, senpai. I was wondering what's so special about the young man you were talking so highly about," Shichiro said while rubbing the back of his head. Then he turned toward Izuku and said, "I am Balam Shichiro, one of the staff members of Babyls and Opera-sensei's kouhai. Nice to meet you."
"Hi, I'm Izuku," Izuku said with a bow. "You probably know who I am," he added, glancing at Opera.
"Shichiro, did you bring the books I asked you for?" Opera asked.
"Ah, yes, here," Balam reached into the bag dangling around his waist, took out some colorful books, and handed them to Izuku.
"Wow, they look really well-made," Izuku absentmindedly remarked as he examined the books in his hand, unintentionally missing how Balam's eyes lit up at his words. "But what are they?"
"Before I explain that to you, why don't you try reading them?" Opera suggested. Izuku nodded and began reading the book.
'Long ago, in a distant land, there were three siblings.' On the first page of the book, there were cute drawings of three children standing in front of a house.
On the next page, information about the various types of magic and their rarity was explained through a story about those three siblings, accompanied by cute drawings for better understanding.
Meanwhile, Izuku's eyes kept widening as he continued reading, until finally, he exclaimed, "This is amazing! I can understand this!!!!"
"Woah, really!?" Balam replied, sounding as excited as Izuku himself.
"That's good to hear, my lord," Opera said. "Shichiro really put a lot of effort into them."
"You really made this entire book!?" Izuku asked with a shocked expression on his face.
"I've loved picture books since I was little, so making them became a hobby," Balam explained while scratching his cheek. "But for some reason, when I try to show them to others, they run off."
"That's rude," Izuku frowned. "These are so well-made and easy to understand," he said while flipping through more pages.
"By the way, Opera-senpai, is there any particular reason you asked me to bring these books here?" Balam asked.
"You see, the young master was having trouble with his studies, so I thought your picture books might help, and it seems I was right," Opera said, as both of them glanced at Izuku, who was engrossed in reading the picture book in his hand. "I would also like you to create more of these based on Izuku-sama's curriculum. Of course, you will be paid for your work."
"No, no, I don't mind," Balam replied. "Honestly, I'm just happy that someone is taking an interest in reading the books I made."
"Very well then," Opera nodded. "Take a seat, and I will bring something for you to drink," they said as they walked to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Balam did as he was told and sat down, observing Izuku, who was still engrossed in the book... the book he had made. Just watching him gave him butterflies in his stomach.
"So, Balam... sensei?" Izuku paused for a moment, wondering how he should address the demon in front of him, before deciding to stick with sensei. "You and Opera seem familiar with each other."
"Well, Opera senpai was my senior when I was a student at Babyls," Balam said, beginning to share some stories from his school days. Izuku listened with a curious and fond expression in his eyes.
"By the way, I don't remember seeing you in Babyls before," Izuku said. "What do you teach exactly?"
"Well, I'm not in charge of any particular subject, but I often substitute for other teachers," Balam explained. "I am mainly employed there for my particular set of skills."
Then after that, they talked a little more before Balam left the mansion with a newfound drive to create more picture books.
******
In the evening, Izuku could be seen outside in the courtyard, practicing magic on his own.
'La Fire' Izuku uttered a spell, and in the next moment, a ball of green flames shot out from his hand and crashed onto one of the rocks in front of him, leaving a small burn mark behind. The impact of the spell may have seemed small, but that was due to Izuku using the Ring of Gluttony in Devil mode (1st mode), which was the lowest mode. Otherwise, the spell had the potential to create large torrents of fire.
After surveying the impact of the spell, Izuku turned to his side, where a book of beginner-level spells was kept on a nearby stool. Then, he read another spell from the book, took his stance, and raised his hand towards the rock.
'Ray Of Frost' he uttered, and a frigid beam of blue-white light streaked toward the rock, causing a patch of ice to appear on the surface.
As he continued firing spells at the poor rock, suddenly he noticed a presence behind him. He turned around and saw Sullivan standing there, looking at him with a warm smile on his face.
"Hey, Grandpa, how was your day?" Izuku greeted Sullivan.
"It wasn't too bad, aside from the fact that I had to spend the entire day without seeing my precious grandson," Sullivan said with a pout. "Aside from that, it was just meetings and overseeing the cleanup after the festival."
"I see..." Izuku said, hesitating a little before asking the next question. "Did that incident cause you any more trouble?"
"No, nothing you should worry about," Sullivan said, ruffling Izuku's hair. "And you should also let that topic rest now."
"Yeah, it's about time..." Izuku said. A part of him still blamed himself for not noticing Kirio's true nature earlier. But one thing he had learned from his past life is that he cannot do everything on his own, so he decided to heed his Grandpa's advice and let Kirio rest in some back corner of his mind.
"Well, that aside, it looks like you were practicing magic," Sullivan said, glancing at the spell book.
"Yeah, Momonoki-sensei said that we should keep practicing magic on our own so that we'll get the hang of it," Izuku explained. "She also said that ideally, before the end of the first semester, beginner-level spells shouldn't require conscious attention and concentration while using them," he explained, recalling how other students had grimaced when Momonoki had declared that, making him think maybe his teacher was setting the bar a little too high.
"Well, can't say I'm surprised. Morax has always been a little too passionate about magic, even when she was a student at Babyls," Sullivan said with a chuckle. Then suddenly, his eyes lit up as an idea crossed his mind, "Izuku, my dear grandson, how about I teach you an advanced-level spell?"
"Advanced-level spell?" Izuku asked, his voice filled with surprise. "Is it really alright? Weren't advanced-level spells taught only to second years onwards?"
"Oh, don't worry about that," Sullivan said, waving his hand dismissively. "Those restrictions only apply to the school curriculum. It never said that a grandpa couldn't teach it to his grandson... " A kind look appeared in Sullivan's eyes. "I also wanted to reward you for saving everyone along with the school."
At that moment, Izuku almost declined the reward, thinking that saving everyone that day was a natural thing to do. However, Nana warned him not to do that and asked him to consider Sullivan's emotions over his morals. In the end, Izuku gave in and bowed, "In that case, I will be honored to learn a spell from you, Grandpa."
"Aww! My grandson is so polite and well-mannered," Sullivan exclaimed, pulling Izuku into a tight hug.
Then, they moved into position as Izuku once again stood in front of a rock, which he was using as his target, with Sullivan standing beside him.
"First of all, you will need something to channel this spell with. I think any small rock will do," Sullivan said. Izuku looked around and finally found a palm-sized rock. "Yeah, that should suffice. Now, draw your arm back." Izuku did as he was told and drew his arm back. "Now, shout 'Libera' as you throw the ball."
Izuku followed the instructions, but this time, instead of anything magical happening, the rock just fell in front of him in a very anticlimactic way. "... Nothing happened," Izuku muttered while looking at Sullivan.
"Strange, the spell should have worked..." Sullivan said while rubbing his chin, but then he realized something. "Ah, you must be using that ring in Devil mode."
"Yeah, I didn't want to cause unnecessary damage to the surrounding area, so I kept the ring's output at a minimum setting," Izuku explained.
"That was considerate of you, but that's also why the spell didn't work," Sullivan said. "You see, Izuku, advanced spells require a certain amount of mana to activate that Devil mode cannot provide. Try changing the ring's mode to Demon mode (2nd mode)."
Izuku nodded and switched the ring's mode from Devil to Demon. Then he repeated Sullivan's instructions, raised his arm, and said 'Libera' before releasing the rock. This time, a reaction happened. As soon as he released the rock, it was surrounded by a fiery blue dragon. In the next moment, the dragon approached the target rock and completely destroyed the rock, shattering it into many pieces.
"Okay, that was actually awesome!" Izuku exclaimed as he kept staring between the shattered rock and his hand.
"I know! Isn't your Grandpa really awesome?!" Sullivan boasted with a puffed chest. As he kept boasting, he noticed Izuku lost in deep thought until his grandson suddenly turned towards him.
"Grandpa, I want to try something, if you don't mind," Izuku asked.
"No, go ahead," Sullivan agreed, just as curious to see what his grandson was up to.
So, Izuku moved to a different location, specifically in front of another rock. Then he took a deep breath, arched his hand back, and once again said 'Libera' before throwing the rock. But this time, he channeled 30% of One for All into his hand before launching the rock. The result? Just like before, a fiery blue dragon surrounded the rock as soon as it left Izuku's hand, but this time, it had green sparks around it and shattered the target rock... along with the ground around it, forming a crater where the target rock once stood.
After that, there was silence as the pair of grandpa and grandson just stared at the crater in front of them.
"It looks like One for All does affect the spells if I use them in combination with one another," Izuku muttered, still staring at the crater.
"Quite an interesting outcome, if you ask me," Sullivan said and turned toward Izuku. "Let's go inside; you must be hungry by now."
"Yeah, let's go," Izuku said and was about to leave when suddenly they both felt chills down their spines.
"I hope you two weren't planning to leave while leaving this mess behind," Opera stood behind them, staring at them with unimpressed eyes.
"No, of course not. Why would you even think like that?" Sullivan said while sweating bullets.
"Yeah, what Grandpa said," Izuku replied with a strained smile.
"Good. Get this cleaned up; dinner will be ready by the time you're done," Opera said before leaving the pair to clean up their mess.
******
Later that night, Izuku was in his bed, staring at the ceiling just a few minutes before going to sleep.
"Today was a fruitful day... and very normal," Izuku muttered to himself.
'What? Were you expecting something to happen?' Nana asked with a chuckle.
"No, it's just... Grandpa and Opera acted very normally," Izuku said.
'Izuku... they are not going to treat you differently just because of your past,' Nana said. 'You can definitely count on them to have your back.'
'You are right. I am really glad that it was Grandpa who brought me from my awful parents,' with that thought, Izuku closed his eyes, getting lost in his dreams.
******
'Where am I?' Izuku thought as he found himself in a void that resembled something like a vestige world of One for All. The only difference was that he wasn't covered in a black fog; instead, he stood there in his regular clothes. 'What is going on here?'
Suddenly, a house materialized in front of him, and it wasn't just any house... it was his house, evident from the All Might-themed nameplate on the door. Without knowing what was happening, Izuku moved forward and opened the door with a trembling hand.
His breath caught as he entered the house because it was his house... the house he had grown up in, the house where his dream had started, shattered, and reignited. It was the house he had shared with his... mom. It looked exactly as he remembered it from the last time he had been there before moving into the dorms.
"Where the hell..." Suddenly, the door to his mother's room swung open and out walked none other than Nana Shimura. Her words caught in her throat as soon as she saw him, and they locked eyes.
They stood there, staring at each other for a moment, about to address each other when the door to Izuku's room opened. From within emerged a familiar shadow demon, who fixed its gaze on Izuku and asked, "What is this place?" in a chilling voice.
"You can talk?" Izuku asked, his eyes widening.
The demon stared at him for a moment before letting out a scream, "I can talk!!!" and continued to scream.
To be continued...
