Chapter 7: Chapter 7: A New Path

Chapter 7: A New Path

The first rays of the sun peeked over the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the estate. Akio woke up early, as usual, his mind already racing with ideas. He stepped out of bed, stretched, and took a deep breath. Another day of progress—another day to change the world.

He dressed quickly, his usual attire of a simple tunic and pants suited for work, and made his way outside. The air was crisp and fresh, a slight breeze ruffling his dark hair. He walked across the estate grounds, his mind already focused on the tasks ahead. The merchant had promised to bring the items he requested today, and Akio was eager to get started on his new project.

The Workshop: A New Venture

The workshop was quiet as Akio entered, the sound of his footsteps echoing in the large space. It was his domain, filled with blueprints, half-finished machines, and stacks of papers. He made his way to his desk, where a pile of notes lay waiting for his attention. He had been thinking about magical engineering for weeks, and now, at the age of 10 years and 35 days, he was ready to dive into it.

His first task was to meet with the merchant. Akio had sent a messenger the day before to request specific items, and now it was time to finalize the deal.

The merchant was already there, waiting by the door with a large leather bag. His face was covered with a hood, his eyes gleaming with curiosity as he bowed to Akio.

"Master Akio," the merchant said, "I have brought everything you asked for."

Akio nodded, standing up from his desk. "Good. I need a few items for magical engineering. First, I need some magic crystals—specifically, ones from magic beasts. They'll be used to power my experiments. Also, I need some elixirs—one in particular, a Spirit Infuser. I have the gold ready for the transaction."

The merchant's eyes widened slightly. "The Spirit Infuser? That's a very rare elixir. It's not something that comes cheap, Master Akio. And the magic crystals… they're not easy to come by either. But if you have the gold, I can get them."

Akio's gaze was steady. "I do. I'll also need a spirit contract. I plan to form a pact with a spirit to help me in my work."

The merchant hesitated for a moment. "A spirit contract? You're ambitious for someone so young. But if you're truly set on it, I can get the items. The cost will be… 500,000 gold."

Akio nodded without hesitation. He had been saving his company's earnings for a while, and this purchase, while steep, was essential to his future plans.

The Confrontation with His Father

Later that day, after the items were delivered, Akio's father, Count Merendez, stormed into the workshop. His face was flushed with anger, his voice booming.

"Akio! Do you know how much you've spent? 500,000 gold! What could you possibly need all this for?"

Akio stood calmly, unflinching. "Father, I'm working on something that will change everything. The magic crystals and elixirs are essential for my experiments. The spirit contract will give me the opportunity to form a partnership with a spirit, allowing me to improve my magical engineering. This is an investment in our future."

The Count's eyes softened, though his frown remained. "You're still a child, Akio. You can't just throw money around like this. But… I trust you, son. Just remember to be careful. I don't want you to bite off more than you can chew."

Akio nodded, his voice steady. "I understand, Father. But this will pay off. Trust me."

For now, the Count allowed it. Akio knew he would have to prove the worth of his investment, but he was confident it would lead to something extraordinary.

The Spirit Infuser Elixir

That night, Akio carefully opened the vial containing the Spirit Infuser elixir. The liquid inside shimmered with a faint glow, and he could feel the intense magical energy radiating from it. He held it in his hands for a moment, contemplating the effects it would have on him.

Taking a deep breath, Akio uncorked the vial and drank the elixir in one swift motion.

At first, nothing happened. But then, a wave of energy coursed through his body. His senses sharpened, and his vision seemed to blur as a strange, ethereal realm unfolded before him. The air around him shimmered with the presence of spirits—translucent figures, some faint and others more solid, floating in and out of sight.

Akio marveled at the beauty of the spirit realm. The spirits were unlike anything he had imagined, each one unique in form and energy. He reached out with his newly enhanced abilities, feeling the spirits' presence more acutely than ever before.

A voice interrupted his awe. "Well, well. You're a curious one, aren't you?"

Akio turned to see a water spirit hovering nearby. The spirit was humanoid in shape, with flowing water forming its body, yet there was a distinct sarcasm in its voice.

"Are you my new master?" the spirit asked, its tone dripping with mockery. "I must say, I'm not impressed. You're barely even at the 3rd circle, and you want to form a contract? You must be desperate."

Akio smiled inwardly, his magical abilities still growing but not yet at their full potential. "I may be young, but I have big plans. And I'm confident that with you by my side, we can achieve greatness."

The spirit's eyes glinted with interest. "Hm. I suppose I could use a master like you. You may not be strong now, but I can feel your potential. Very well, I'll make the contract with you. After all, I could use the mana you'll provide to grow stronger."

The water spirit agreed to the pact, and the contract was sealed. Akio felt a surge of magical energy as the spirit became bound to him, its power now at his disposal. The connection was a strange but exciting feeling—Akio could sense the spirit's thoughts and emotions, and in return, the spirit could feel his.

"Don't get too cocky, kid," the spirit said with a chuckle. "I'll be watching."

The Magical Engineering Begins

With his new spirit ally, Akio was ready to begin his work. For the next month, he locked himself away in his workshop, cutting off all distractions. He poured his energy into magical engineering, combining his knowledge of technology and magic with the help of the spirit. The spirit's past master had also dabbled in magical engineering, and the spirit provided invaluable insight.

Akio's first creation was a small box that produced wind when activated by a magic crystal. It was a low-level magical tool, but the potential was enormous. The wind could be used to power small devices or even assist in certain industrial applications.

Next, he created a small toy—a spinning top that levitated in the air. The top hovered effortlessly, spinning without the need for any physical contact. It was another low-level magical tool, but its design was elegant, and Akio couldn't help but admire the work.

The spirit, while sarcastic, watched with a growing sense of pride as Akio pushed his limits. "Not bad, kid. Not bad at all."

In a month's time, Akio had created these two items, and he was already thinking of new ideas. He was still only 10 years and 84 days old, but his mind was already far beyond his age, and he knew that this was just the beginning.

The King's Surprise

After a week of working tirelessly, Akio had a meeting with the King. The monarch smiled as he greeted Akio, who had just finished some of his latest creations.

"You've been busy, I see," the King said with a chuckle. "I have something for you, Akio. A surprise. In three months, I'll be sending you something special—something that will aid in your work."

Akio was intrigued, but he didn't press for details. "Thank you, Your Majesty. I look forward to it."

A Date with Seraphina

Amidst the whirlwind of magical engineering, Akio had been neglecting his time with Seraphina. But today, he decided to change that. He took a break from his work and invited her to a quiet dinner.

The evening was calm, the setting sun casting a soft glow over the courtyard. They talked about everything and nothing, enjoying each other's company. When the evening came to a close, Akio hesitated for a moment before leaning in and kissing Seraphina softly on the lips.

It was a gentle kiss, but it carried with it the promise of something deeper—a future together. Seraphina smiled, her face flushed with happiness.

"I'm glad you finally came out of your room, Akio," she said softly, her eyes full of affection.

Akio smiled back. "I'm glad I did too."
