Chapter 49: The Commanding Art of Han Wenhuan
Xu Lie slapped his horse and charged right up to the palisade walls, and couldn't help but curl his lips with disdain, "Now they're all ready for us, if only they had listened to me and set out earlier, this wouldn't have happened."
After saying that, he thought to himself, "But it doesn't matter, with the strength of my Black Mountain army, taking down such a small, broken village will be a piece of cake!"
With that, he gestured to the sky, and a Green Dragon Crescent Blade appeared in his hand out of thin air.
He was brimming with confidence, yet he was unaware that on the other side of the palisade, they were already celebrating.
"Holy crap, there are so many elites, we're going to get so much good loot."
The number of elite monsters was indeed frighteningly high. Including both ordinary and high-ranking elites, there were more than forty, with a ratio of about ten regular White-Named Monsters to one elite. Although there were many elite monsters, most of them were generic, lacking unique names.
Such elite monsters could also drop top-quality equipment, but the chances were much lower, and getting something good depended entirely on luck.
Those few rare elites, however, were immediately targeted. These monsters were guaranteed to drop rare equipment, and in the eyes of the players, they weren't vicious bandits but walking equipment loot bags.
Seeing the eager crowd, Xiao Buli couldn't help shaking his head. A single elite monster might not be much to handle, but so many elites, plus a massive number of minor monsters, were not going to be easy to deal with.
Not to mention the two Silver Name BOSSes and one Gold Name BOSS.
Xiao Buli glanced at Han Wenhuan, "Old Han, it's all up to you this time."
Han Wenhuan nodded, "Don't worry boss, when have I ever let you down?"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Buli shouted in the YY channel, "Han Wenhuan will now take over the command, he'll be in charge of directing this battle. Everyone must cooperate seamlessly, do not act recklessly, and we'll distribute the equipment evenly after the fight is over."
Everyone in the YY channel agreed, but it was evident that some were skeptical.
This was understandable. Xiao Buli could just about keep these people in line with his power, but it wasn't as easy for Han Wenhuan to command their willing obedience, given his own strength. However, that was fine, as long as they knew their own good.
Han Wenhuan thus took over the command and issued a series of orders. Since no danger or difficulty had yet emerged, everyone followed his commands without any open insubordination.
The Black Mountain army formed their ranks but didn't immediately engage in an attack. Instead, they sent out over a hundred archers to provide suppressive fire.
The archers from Black Stone Village Militia and Thousand Pines Town Militia on the walls naturally fired back immediately. The disparity in strength became apparent during the exchange. Over a hundred Black Mountain Archers and Black Mountain God Archers shot a dense volley of arrows, while there were only about forty archers on the wall, with much poorer marksmanship.
The combat effectiveness was completely disproportionate. Even with the protection of the breastwork, they were rapidly suppressed after several volleys.
Thousand Pines Town Militia was killed by a Black Mountain Archer.

Blue notifications continuously appeared on the screen, a special function in battle missions. However, most of the death notifications were from the side defending the walls.
Han Wenhuan had been holding back the players, but seeing the situation, he signaled to Lin Feng, "You guys go."
Lin Feng understood, and five of them lined up on the parapet.
Han Wenhuan glanced at Xiao Buli again, "Boss, use Mind Revelation to mark the targets. All archers, focus fire on marked enemies."
Xiao Buli nodded, then suddenly raised his hand, and a flash of Mind Revelation's white light flickered above a Black Mountain God Archer's head. The next moment, five arrows flew towards him simultaneously.
Three of them hit, and among those, one struck a vital point, -21, -23, -47.
That Black Mountain God Archer lost half his health all at once, and by the time the second volley was shot, he screamed in agony and fell.
Good, just like that, Xiao Buli said as he cast another Mind Revelation on the head of another Black Mountain God Archer.
One by one, several ordinary Elite 'Black Mountain God Archers' were successively targeted and shot down. Although these were Elite Monsters, they were ranged and had low health points, and it generally took just two or three volleys to kill one.
As the saying goes, damaging ten fingers is not as good as cutting one; although the militiamen on the palisade kept getting injured and losing health, there were hardly any casualties under the care of Xiao Buli's Resurrection Skills and Gu Shaobang's bandage wrapping. The tide of battle appeared to be turning little by little.
"Gather, gather, fire in unison! Upon seeing this, the leading high-level Elite—Black Mountain Ranger—immediately started shouting. Those scattered Black Mountain Archers were quickly assembled to prepare to counterattack with their own volley of fire. When Han Wenhuan saw this, he smiled faintly. He had been waiting for just this moment.
"Du, it's your turn to take action, blast them!"
Following Han Wenhuan's voice, Du Yibo's figure appeared on the palisade, shielded by two Black Stone Village Militia wielding wooden shields and donning Rock Armor, given that Mage Professions were known for low defense and health—it wouldn't be a joke if they were targeted.
Without needing Han Wenhuan's instructions, the moment he saw those archers gathering together, a fireball began to gather in his hand, growing and darkening in color.
Just as the Black Mountain Archers were assembled and ready to launch their first volley, the fireball in his hand grew to the size of a face, its color deep and terrifying, like a miniature sun.
With a fierce swing of his Magic Wand, the fireball flew towards the group of archers like a meteor. In the next moment, with a massive explosion, five or six archers at the core were blasted away while those a bit further out were knocked haphazardly as a giant fireball detonated among them.
"Well done, archers, ready—fire!"
After three consecutive volleys, the arrows all targeted those who were blown to the ground. They had yet to get up, and without any chance to dodge, they were shot and killed one after another.
In this short time, over twenty archers had been killed while only four or five had died on the palisade, and not a single player had perished.
Xiao Buli nodded in satisfaction. Han Wenhuan was indeed skilled at commanding large-scale battles, keeping an excellent tempo and always predicting the enemy's tactical movements a step ahead. This was why he had entrusted the command to Han Wenhuan. He glanced at the eastern ramparts, where the battle also raged fiercely.
Although their archers were far outnumbered by the Black Mountain Bandits they were facing, they had a Thunder Summoner, a profession that excelled in siege warfare.
Chen Chuan summoned a pitch-black cloud that rumbled with the sound of thunder, which enshrouded the open ground outside the eastern wall. Lightning constantly bombarded from the cloud. Although lacking precision, it was powerful and had a splashing effect, causing the opposing archers to scream and howl in agony, suffering heavy casualties.
Xiao Buli was taken aback, not expecting that Chen Chuan would be so strong. The last battle had ended abruptly, and it was only now that he truly saw Chen Chuan's strength. Indeed, those who managed to make a name for themselves in a great guild had some tricks up their sleeves.
He couldn't help but shed his contempt, thinking that once the battle was over, he might make a move in advance.
Seeing the archers suffering heavy casualties, Xu Lie's eyes flashed with a cold light. "If range doesn't work, let's go in hard. Infantry—attack! Second and third, lead the teams personally! I'll back you up," Cui Yuncheng and Du Guang exchanged glances, nodding in agreement.
Cui Yuncheng led 150 Black Mountain Bandits to attack the eastern wall, while Du Guang took another 150 to attack the western ramparts.
Under the leadership of two Silver Name BOSSes, several high-ranking elite leaders, and more than twenty ordinary elite bandits, 300 Black Mountain Bandits, with ladders in hand, charged towards the ramparts. The remaining fifty Black Mountain Cavalry, positioned behind Xu Lie, served as the rear guard.
The surviving Black Mountain Archers, having been pulled down, seemed to be regrouping to form ranks again.
Watching the swarming mass of Black Mountain Bandits rushing toward the ramparts, whether it was Chen Chuan, Lei Ba, or Xiao Buli and others, all revealed expressions of excitement and solemnity. The real show had finally begun!
Wen Huan said, "Boss, it's your turn, throw down the AOE!"
Xiao Buli nodded and summoned Heavy Rain! As he began casting, a mass of clouds suddenly emerged above the ramparts, even larger than the one Chen Chuan had summoned. These clouds, however, were not as dark, nor did they unleash lightning, but rather they poured down torrential rain, blurring the vision of both sides.
Having completed one major spell, Xiao Buli immediately followed with a second—Freezing Cloud Skills.
The target of the Freezing Cloud Skills wasn't the ground where the Black Mountain Bandits were charging; instead, it was exactly above the clouds created by the Torrential Rain. When the freezing cloud met the rain cloud, the rain turned into hail.
The hail, the size of chicken eggs, fell with a crackling sound; each strike removed a bit of health—not much, but the sheer number couldn't be ignored, -1-1-1 blood-red digits nearly filled the screen. Xiao Buli had to turn off the damage display feature to gain some quiet. Stay tuned with My Virtual Library Empire
The covering range of the Freezing Cloud Skills was a bit small, so Xiao Buli cast three more in rapid succession, turning the ground facing the western wall into a field of ice and snow. The Black Mountain Bandits, pummeled by hail, lost health rapidly and their speed slowed, becoming perfect targets.
Free shot! At Han Wenhuan's command, arrows rained down from the ramparts. NPCs and players alike spared no arrows, showering the Black Mountain Bandits with volleys. The bandits fell row by row as a large stone missile suddenly flew from behind the ramparts, knocking down five or six at once—a Stone-throwing Cart operated by Li Shuren had also joined the fray.
