After Being Reborn, I Refuse To Be The Holy Son Of The Sect Anymore

Chapter 156:

Chapter 156:

Under the moonlit night, in the eerie Ghost Mist Valley, the toxic fog that had been scattered by Mo Hongyue’s palm had not yet reassembled.

Everyone stood in the enormous palm-shaped imprint on the ground, staring at Xiao Yang, who was embedded in the dirt.

Xiao Yang showed no signs of life, and his aura was entirely absent.

They all believed Xiao Yang had been killed by the powerful strike of one of the Demon Sect’s experts.

The disciples of the Azure Sun Sword Sect were filled with grief and anger.

Xiao Yang’s parents and younger sister wept openly.

His brothers, Lin Wangchuan and Song Qiang, were overwhelmed with sorrow.

His junior sister lay on Xiao Yang’s chest, wailing loudly.

Even Li Fanyin and the others were overcome with regret, lamenting the loss of such a talented individual.

However, just as Qin Fei stepped forward to lift Xiao Yang’s “body” from the ground, Xiao Yang’s “corpse” suddenly opened its eyes.

“…”

Qin Fei was so terrified that he nearly fainted on the spot.

“No… this…”

Everyone who had approached was equally dumbfounded.

They all thought it was some sort of corpse reanimation.

In the gloomy Ghost Mist Valley, an eerie chill crept over everyone.

“Who said I was dead?”

Xiao Yang suddenly spoke.

“…”

Qin Fei’s entire body bristled in fear, his scalp tingling as his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground, trembling as he stared at Xiao Yang.

Xiao Zhanshan and Chen Ruolan, Xiao Yang’s parents, turned deathly pale with fright.

Xiao Yue, his younger sister, screamed in terror.

Jiang Ting stood frozen, completely stunned.

Even the battle-hardened figures like the Grand Elder, Huang Tian, and Luo Xuan, who had seen countless life-and-death situations, were startled.

“Senior Brother isn’t dead?”

Lin Wangchuan, stunned yet overjoyed, rushed forward to help Xiao Yang up, throwing his arms around him and bursting into tears.

His emotions were pure, and among everyone present, he was the happiest to see that his senior brother was still alive.

Song Qiang was equally moved, his excitement evident.

Li Fanyin gazed at Xiao Yang in disbelief.

Just moments ago, she had sensed no trace of life from him. How could this be possible?

She didn’t believe in resurrection. The only explanations were either that Xiao Yang had not been completely dead or that he had entered a state of suspended animation through some mysterious cultivation technique.

Lin Wangchuan finally released Xiao Yang, who stood up and brushed the dirt off his clothes.

The ground beneath him bore the imprint of a human-shaped crater.

“Senior Brother, you’re alive! That’s amazing!”

Jiang Ting ran toward Xiao Yang, intending to throw herself into his arms.

Xiao Yang instinctively stepped aside.

“Junior Sister, please behave yourself,” Xiao Yang said indifferently.

“Senior Brother, you…”

Jiang Ting looked at Xiao Yang with red-rimmed eyes, her expression filled with grievance.

“This… this…”

Qin Fei was so frustrated that he could barely speak, almost spitting blood in his exasperation.

Xiao Yang wasn’t dead?

Mo Hongyue, you’re one of the top assassins in the Demon Sect, and yet you couldn’t even kill Xiao Yang?

Moreover, you didn’t even finish the job properly.

If you had delivered a killing blow, even if Xiao Yang had ten lives, it wouldn’t have been enough to save him.

“Junior Brother, are you disappointed that I’m still alive?”

Xiao Yang’s cold gaze bore into Qin Fei.

“Haha… Senior Brother, you must be joking. I’m overjoyed that you’re alive!” Qin Fei forced a smile, though inwardly, he was cursing Mo Hongyue’s entire ancestry.

He had been planning to eliminate Xiao Yang’s entire family once Xiao Yang was dead.

Now that Xiao Yang had survived, all his schemes had been ruined.

Qin Fei was on the verge of a breakdown, but he couldn’t show it.

Xiao Yang relished seeing Qin Fei’s frustration—wanting to kill him but being utterly powerless to do so.

“Senior Brother, are you trying to bully Junior Brother again?”

Jiang Ting quickly stepped forward to shield Qin Fei, glaring at Xiao Yang with righteous indignation.

As expected.

Xiao Yang glanced at Jiang Ting. She had been crying her heart out over his “death” just moments ago, yet now she was glaring at him angrily, protecting Qin Fei.

“With you as his protective junior sister, who would dare bully your precious junior brother?” Xiao Yang replied coldly.

“Senior Brother, don’t be like this!” Jiang Ting frowned, assuming Xiao Yang was acting out of jealousy.

“You ungrateful brat. You’re alive, so at least I won’t have to endure the pain of burying my own son,” Xiao Zhanshan muttered, showing no particular joy at Xiao Yang’s survival.

Xiao Yang had no emotional bond with his parents or sister.

“Yang’er, you scared your mother to death just now,” Chen Ruolan said, still shaken.

Although Xiao Yang was her biological son, whom she had carried for ten months, she didn’t like him but hadn’t wanted him to die.

“Great! My dowry is saved!” Xiao Yue cheered, entirely unconcerned about Xiao Yang’s life or death, only thinking about her dowry.

“What does your dowry have to do with me?” Xiao Yang said coldly.

“But, Brother, you promised to prepare a dowry for me when I got married!” Xiao Yue protested indignantly.

“I’ve changed my mind. Is that a problem?” Xiao Yang retorted sharply, glaring at her.

Prepare a dowry for you? Dream on!

The so-called family—none of them truly cared about him. All they wanted was to drain him dry.

The so-called familial bond was sustained solely by interests.

In this new life, Xiao Yang didn’t care anymore.

In his past life, his inability to let go of these relatives had allowed Qin Fei to manipulate him, constantly leaving him at a disadvantage.

Because these family members had been Xiao Yang’s weakness.

But in this new life, his sect, his parents, his sister, and Jiang Ting were no longer his vulnerabilities.

“Big Brother, you…” Xiao Yue glared at Xiao Yang in anger.

“Senior Brother, are you alright?” Song Qiang approached, looking Xiao Yang up and down with concern.

“Senior Brother, what happened here?” Lin Wangchuan asked curiously.

Judging by the scene, it was clear that Xiao Yang had been struck into the ground by a terrifying palm.

The enormous palm imprint alone showcased the overwhelming force behind the attack.

Everyone stared at Xiao Yang, curious about how he had managed to survive such an attack.

“I simply suppressed my aura,” Xiao Yang explained.

Was he supposed to tell them he had been attempting to absorb demonic energy but had almost succumbed to an inner demon, forcing him to suppress his aura and refine the invading magic?

Had Mo Hongyue been more thorough, he would not have survived.

However, after delivering that earth-shattering palm, Mo Hongyue had left immediately, overly confident in her attack.

Mo Hongyue had believed there was no way Xiao Yang could withstand it.

But fate had other plans.

Not only did Xiao Yang survive, but he also refined the invading demonic energy, which now pushed his cultivation toward a breakthrough.

Wasn’t this a blessing in disguise?

“It’s a relief that Brother Xiao is fine,” Li Fanyin said, stepping forward.

Had Xiao Yang died within the Ten Directions Sect’s territory, it would have been a huge problem for them.

Seeing that Xiao Yang was alive, Li Fanyin sighed in relief.

“I didn’t die, but I’m sure some people aren’t too happy about that,” Xiao Yang remarked indifferently.

Why not just say my name out loud? Qin Fei fumed internally.

Once again, he had failed.

How could Xiao Yang’s luck be this good?

Mo Hongyue had been overly confident, assuming Xiao Yang couldn’t possibly survive, which led her to leave immediately.

Qin Fei was livid but had to suppress his rage, feeling utterly stifled.

“It’s getting late. Since the Holy Son is fine, we should return,” the elder overseeing the sect’s participation in the upcoming competition said.

As the leader of the Azure Sun Sword Sect’s delegation, he would have been held accountable had anything happened to Xiao Yang.

Now that Xiao Yang was safe, the elder secretly rejoiced.

“Alright,” Xiao Yang replied, brushing the dust off his robes. Without paying any attention to the others, he swept his sleeve, took Lin Wangchuan and Song Qiang, and soared into the sky. With a flash of sword light enveloping the two, they turned into a streak of light that disappeared from the Ghost Mist Valley.

“This ungrateful brat didn’t even take us along…” Xiao Zhanshan growled.

Chen Ruolan sighed, her face slightly pale.

“Hmph, who needs him to take us anyway?” Xiao Yue huffed in irritation.

The sect elder glanced at the three and said, “I’ll take you back.”

“Then we’ll trouble the elder,” Xiao Zhanshan immediately said with a fawning smile.

The elder waved his sleeve, enveloping the three in sword light before flying toward Nine Heavens City.

Jiang Ting, Qin Fei, and Lei Renjie, as martial masters at the Heavenly Martial Realm, directly flew into the air and followed.

Li Fanyin and the others also headed straight back to Nine Heavens City.

Meanwhile, in an abandoned house outside Nine Heavens City, Mo Hongyue held a communication jade and stared in disbelief.

“Xiao Yang is still alive? How is this possible?”

In frustration, she crushed the jade in her hand.

How could Xiao Yang have survived such a strike?

It was impossible!

Even a martial grandmaster at the  Divine Martial Realm couldn’t withstand that palm.

Let alone Xiao Yang, a mere sword master at the Heavenly Martial Realm.

She couldn’t comprehend it—Xiao Yang’s cultivation must have already broken through to the  Divine Martial Realm.

But she had failed to discern his true strength.

Believing him dead, she had assumed victory.

Who would have thought Xiao Yang was still alive?

“If one attempt failed, I’ll try again. I refuse to believe I can’t kill you,” Mo Hongyue muttered coldly.

Watching her rewards slip away and having lost an invaluable life-saving talisman, Mo Hongyue was so frustrated she nearly coughed blood.

Being an assassin was merely her side job.

As a spear demon who had embraced the path of magic, her name was feared far and wide.

After returning to Nine Heavens City, Xiao Yang escorted Lin Wangchuan and Song Qiang to the city lord’s residence before returning to his room at the Leisure Inn.

At sunrise, there were only five days left until the competition.

Li Fanyin began a large-scale hunt for remnants of the Demon Sect within the region of Nine Heavens City.

The entire Ten Directions Sect mobilized.

The Demon Sect remnants had been too brazen, too arrogant, daring to act openly within their territory.

This was a slap in the face of the Ten Directions Sect, and it could not be tolerated.

The entire city was in a state of unease.

Despite Li Fanyin’s high-profile efforts, no remnants of the Demon Sect were captured.

Tomorrow was Qin Fei’s birthday.

As Xiao Yang thought of this, he immediately remembered the gift he had prepared for Qin Fei in his spatial bag.

“Qin Fei, oh Qin Fei, you want to kill me? Tomorrow, at your birthday banquet, I’ll make sure you can’t even cry when the time comes!”

A cold gleam flashed in Xiao Yang’s eyes, sharp and determined.
