Chapter 45
Chapter 45: Growing Up Together:
In the car, Qin Luo was unbuckling his seatbelt as he said, “Aren’t you afraid of being recognized?”
“Not at all. Even if I am, it doesn’t matter.” Jiang Zhitao replied nonchalantly.
This surprised Qin Luo.
Over the years, Jiang Zhitao had distanced herself from her family. Although it seemed like her parents didn’t want her to have too much contact with her old life, Qin Luo suspected Jiang Zhitao also preferred it that way.
After all, if she really wanted to visit home, it wouldn’t be that difficult for her.
But she hadn’t done so, keeping only phone contact with her family.
Qin Luo thought she did this to protect her reputation, avoiding media attention. He had often felt resentment toward her for this, wanting to confront her, but he never did.
However, her recent words suggested a newfound indifference, as if she no longer cared about the media finding out about her past.
Qin Luo wanted to ask her about it, but Jiang Zhitao suddenly looked towards the school gate and said, “There are such beautiful girls at your school?”
“Where?” Qin Luo followed her gaze and saw Ji Yan in the distance. “Oh, you mean her? Yeah, she’s pretty.”
Jiang Zhitao habitually retorted, “But what does she have to do with you?”
Qin Luo smirked. “Do you think I’d tell you if she kissed me in public?”
Jiang Zhitao stared at him for a moment, then suddenly sneered, “Get out of the car.”
“Wait, I have something to ask…”
“Get. Out. Of. The. Car!”
Qin Luo got out, watching as Jiang Zhitao roared off in the Ferrari. He was left bewildered.
What was with her sudden mood swing?
Women’s hearts were like the ocean, and his sister’s grand heart was a plus-sized ocean, hiding even more secrets.
After not understanding her, Qin Luo decided to drop the matter and walked toward Ji Yan.
Seeing her about to throw a bag into a trash bin, he couldn’t help but ask, “What are you doing?”
Ji Yan stiffened and, like a startled rabbit, quickly hid the bag behind her back, as if it contained something embarrassing.
When Qin Luo looked at her, he noticed she still looked as beautiful as ever, but her eyes were shifty, as if feeling guilty. Yet, when she looked at him, her face showed clear anger.
She said coldly, “What’s it to you?”
“???”
Qin Luo was puzzled.
Were all the girls he knew this moody?
One moment they were asking for ‘Bubble Tea’ on a date, the next it’s “What’s it to you?”
Women.
Qin Luo shrugged and turned to leave.
Seeing him about to walk away, Ji Yan panicked and called out, “Wait!”
“Yes?” Qin Luo asked indifferently.
“Who was that woman?” Ji Yan asked icily.
“Hmm?”
Qin Luo turned back and, after a moment of hesitation, couldn’t help but laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” Ji Yan asked, flustered.
“Nothing, nothing. Just… nothing,” Qin Luo stopped laughing when he saw her growing more annoyed. “Were you jealous?”
“No!” Ji Yan instinctively denied, but her raised voice drew attention from the people around them.
At this moment, everyone realized, hey, weren’t these the two who kissed passionately on the basketball court the other day?
What were they up to now?
Did they want to leave their mark at the school gate too?
Outraged, but also eager for gossip, the students watched closely. However, it seemed like the two were arguing, not showing affection.
With the image of Qin Luo getting out of the Ferrari still fresh in their minds, many began to speculate.
“Whoa, I think I know what’s going on.”
“Seeing her boyfriend get out of a Ferrari, the aloof campus belle finally learns the truth?”
“Dude, you’re wasted here. You should be studying journalism.”
“Seriously, though. There’s definitely something fishy. Ji Yan saw Qin Luo getting out of the Ferrari and got mad. That means there’s something going on!”
“Isn’t Ji Yan always cold and aloof? How can you tell she’s mad?”
“You don’t get it. We have a Ji Yan Research Club. We study her facial expressions. Her eyebrows are definitely furrowed now—she’s mad.”
“Wow… impressive.”
“Stop talking. I have a feeling they’re going to fight. Record it, quick!”
“I’m posting first! I want to know what it’s like to get a thousand replies on the forum!”
Several people pulled out their phones, ready to capture the drama.
Qin Luo was speechless. He hadn’t expected that while his celebrity sister went unnoticed, he, an ordinary student, would experience being swarmed by paparazzi.
He grabbed Ji Yan’s hand and led her into the school, leaving the disappointed onlookers behind.
“Let go.” Ji Yan said, struggling to break free, her icy demeanor intact. She refused to admit she was jealous, but she was still angry since Qin Luo hadn’t answered her question.
Qin Luo, not wanting to tease her further, said, “She’s my sister.”
Ji Yan was surprised. “Your real sister?”
“Well, we grew up together,” Qin Luo replied.
So she was his real sister?
Ji Yan felt a sudden sense of relief, and her cold expression softened.
She was glad that she didn’t throw the bag away in a fit of rage.
Looking up, she met Qin Luo’s amused gaze and glared back, although her guilty expression didn’t make it very intimidating.
In the end, she lowered her head and walked ahead silently.
Qin Luo walked beside her, not teasing her anymore.
The students who saw this were surprised to see Ji Yan, usually never seen alone with a boy, walking with Qin Luo.
She was no longer the aloof campus belle. At this moment, she seemed like a girl in love.
