AI Chip In Reverend Insanity

Chapter 2: Uncle and Aunt

After arriving at the house, Fang Lin dismissed Shen Xiaohui and soon found himself standing alongside his two older brothers: Fang Yuan and Fang Zheng.

One wore a cold, detached face, his eyes a deep black while the other – very similar in appearance – had a timid demeanor, his head held low.

'They really are polar opposites.'

Fang Lin couldn't help but muse. Before his transmigration, Fang Lin and Fang Zheng could be said to be very similar. The only difference being that Fang Zheng was suffering from an inferiority complex while Fang Lin was simply quiet and reserved by nature.

Naturally, once he transmigrated, it wasn't too difficult to act like his predecessor. He simply just had to keep to himself as usual. All the deviances in his usual actions could simply be attributed to his head injury before his transmigration.

"Good, everyone is now here."

His aunt spoke with a joyous smile. Next to her, his uncle, had a satisfied expression seeing Fang Lin finally arrive.

They began speaking soon after.

"As you already know – the Awakening Ceremony will soon begin. This event would mark the beginning of your journey as Gu Masters," his uncle said, shooting glances at Fang Yuan and Fang Lin. These were the two he had the highest hopes for.

'I almost feel bad for second brother,' Fang Lin noticed their clear favouritism and couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. Of course, it wasn't as if they were trying to hide it.

His eldest brother, Fang Yuan, was a genius who had created poems at a young age, showing deep wisdom and early intelligence, garnering a reputation in the clan. Meanwhile, once he transmigrated, Fang Lin also began improving his outward image by subtly being more confident over time and showing signs of intelligence.

Naturally, it wasn't on the level of Fang Yuan – the less attention people had on him the better. In a magical world like this one, there were less risks involved by simply being "above-average" rather than a genius.

After all, trees that stand out too much are targeted by the wind, while those that bear no fruit are left to wither in silence.

He understood that mediocrity made people look down on you, but it was relatively safe, whereas uselessness was death.

He must show some worth and value – just enough to be kept, yet not enough to be discarded.

As for why they had high expectations for children with intelligence, apparently, such characteristics tend to achieve good results during the Awakening Ceremony – for various reasons Fang Lin couldn't understand.

After all, his information on this world was still very limited.

'Perhaps soon I can get valuable information about Gu Masters and Gu after the Awakening Ceremony...'

As a mortal, he had yet to effectively supply his A.I Chip with any useful knowledge of Gu Masters. So far, the only use he had used his A.I Chip for was simply collecting local information and creating a training plan to strengthen his body.

It was a shame, however, that he couldn't use the knight breathing methods from his previous life to enhance his body due to the different laws of this world.

Thus, he had to make do with training using regular methods, crafting the best body possible as a foundation for his future as a Gu Master. It was perhaps the reason why he had the best appearance amongst his brothers.

"Remember, this ceremony will decide your future. Your aptitude will determine your potential, and the clan will invest accordingly," uncle said, his tone solemn.

Fang Zheng clenched his fists at those words, his face tense. He had heard this many times before, and the pressure weighed on him more than anyone else.

Unlike his older brother, whose reputation preceded him, and his younger brother, who had shown steady intelligence, he had no special traits. No natural wisdom, no striking talent. He was completely worthless.

Why was he so different? How was he related to those two?

One or the other, he felt like a stagnant shadow to them – a person with no redeeming qualities. An eyesore that shouldn't exist.

This bitter feeling in his chest seemed to always be eating away at him...

If he could have an A grade aptitude, wouldn't that be great? He shook his head at this thought. For a person like him, such a thing was impossible...

Uncle continued to talk for a few more minutes, describing a few useful bits of informations about Gu Masters, before the three brothers were eventually dismissed.

As the three of them stepped out of the room, Fang Zheng exhaled, his shoulders still tense, muttering, "The ceremony is in two days… I wonder what kind of aptitude we'll have..."

His voice carried a mixture of nervousness and expectation.

Fang Yuan remained silent, his expression unreadable.

Fang Lin, walking a step behind them, smiled faintly. "There's no point worrying about it now. We'll know soon enough."

"H-How can you be so calm little brother? Didn't uncle say that this will decide our future?" Fang Zheng couldn't help but remark.

Fang Lin simply shrugged. "Whether we worry or not, the results won't change. It's best not to lose sleep over it."

Fang Zheng pursed his lips slightly but said nothing.

The three of them eventually parted ways, each heading to their own quarters.

Fang Lin entered his room.

The flickering candlelight casted long shadows on the walls. He sat down on his bed, resting his chin on his hand.

Two days.

Two days until his future in this world was set into motion.

He wasn't worried about aptitude—whether high or low, he would find a way to survive.

What truly interested him was the knowledge he would soon gain.

Gu worms – the foundation of power in this world.

Once he became a Gu Master, he could finally start gathering real data for his A.I. Chip and obtain strength.

That was the real beginning.
