Blayn took a small cookie from Kurome's snack bag. He could immediately feel her gaze fixated on him, as if she was afraid he'd take the opportunity to steal one for himself.

"Relax, I'm not going to take your cookies."

Saying this, he carefully held the cookie by its edge with his thumb and forefinger, preparing to feed it to her.

Kurome slightly opened her mouth, waiting to be fed.

Blayn made sure to be extra careful, releasing the cookie just before it touched her lips so that it would slide into her mouth on its own.

After all, they had only recently met, so it was better to maintain some sense of distance.

Watching Kurome munch on the cookie with a blank yet content expression, he couldn't help but feel like he was feeding a pet.

That was, until an unexpected situation arose.

It wasn't entirely surprising—since airborne Danger Beasts existed, it was only natural that the sky wasn't completely safe.

Sure enough, a bird-type Danger Beast appeared ahead.

It resembled a hawk, though it seemed to be even faster than their own Class-One mount. Its long, razor-sharp beak and talons looked exceptionally lethal.

"Figures. Can't expect a completely smooth ride."

Blayn muttered.

"It's also a Class-One Danger Beast. I can't fight well in the air, but I can summon Doya to take it down with her dual pistols."

Kurome reached for Yatsufusa.

Doya was one of the corpses controlled by Yatsufusa and the only one with ranged combat abilities.

"No need for that."

Blayn said casually.

The next moment, his left eye sharpened, turning bloodshot as he focused on the Danger Beast's neck.

Despite its high-speed movement, Blayn's perception allowed him to predict its trajectory.

Spatial distortion wasn't truly instantaneous. Even with his enhanced Kamui, it still required a fraction of a second, meaning he needed to account for movement.

However, with the Mangekyō Sharingan, such calculations were trivial.

As space twisted violently, the hawk-like Danger Beast suddenly had its neck snapped.

The effect was simple—its neck was transferred into the Kamui dimension, instantly severing its head from its body. Both halves plummeted from the sky.

Most Class-One Danger Beasts lacked exceptional traits like regeneration or extreme durability, so his left-eye Kamui was more than enough to take care of it.

As long as no one knew how it worked, it was practically invincible.

At the very least, he would never find himself in a truly hopeless situation.

The only drawback—aside from its massive energy consumption—was that Kamui's intangibility had a time limit.

A single Mangekyō Sharingan could sustain intangibility for a maximum of five minutes. However, with both eyes awakened, his duration exceeded five minutes—possibly even ten.

He had never tested the upper limit, but when he used it to evade a Special-Class Danger Beast with Esdeath, he was certain it had lasted longer than five minutes.

"The cave is just ahead. We should go in before nightfall—at least that way, we won't have to deal with the Danger Beasts outside."

The entrance was deserted.

They encountered very few Danger Beasts along the way. The stronger a Danger Beast was, the more territorial it became, meaning most weaker ones instinctively avoided these grounds.

Before long, darkness swallowed the cave.

Blayn and Kurome each took out a "Luminous Pearl"—a special light source crafted from the eyes of a Special-Class Danger Beast.

Unlike ordinary torches or lanterns, these pearls emitted an intense glow and never ran out of power.

As they ventured deeper into what seemed like a bottomless abyss, the number of remains increased.

Most were Danger Beast skeletons, but a few were unmistakably human.

Kurome's grip never left Yatsufusa's hilt, ready for anything that might come their way.
