America 1919

Chapter 494: 186. Rights and Wealth_3

Robert Taft's expression faltered, the ABC in Donnie's hands was simply too tempting, especially for officials like them who needed to run for election.

Though Robert had previously stated that ABC would face countless competitors in the future, at least for the current stage, ABC was the boss of American commercial radio. While other commercial radios were chasing after ABC, ABC itself was also growing!

"Additionally, I can establish a fund, which will be named after Helen and specifically aimed at supporting the Taft Family in their future development needs, including not just your campaign funds but also the funds needed when the Taft Family governs."

Donnie dangled another sweet date in front of him.

Although the Taft Family was a political dynasty in the United States, their actual industry was not as vast, as their core focus was still in politics.

This, in fact, is a stance of political and economic development in the United States. Perhaps no one would do this deliberately, but it is a subtle balance achieved in the process of social progress.

Political families need the support of capitalist families to use their power to provide business conveniences to the capitalists that support them, while securing benefits for themselves.

The same goes for capitalist families!

It's fair to say both sides get what they need.

Such persuasion couldn't possibly take immediate effect, but eventually, Robert Taft wasn't as angry as before. He and Donnie had reached a subtle balance, much like the political and capitalist families in the United States.

Taking advantage of this, Donnie took his leave.

That day, he wasn't only facing Robert Taft but also the Roosevelt Family's young Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt arrived in Atlantic City that afternoon, and Donnie and Alice went to the train station to meet him.

Theodore's reaction was more furious than Robert Taft's, but when it was just Donnie and Theodore talking, Theodore turned out to be even more persuadable than Robert.

The two even verbally agreed on numerous future collaborations.

With this, Donnie had reached a delicate balance with both the Taft and Roosevelt Families.

Both families chose to ignore the relationships between Helen, Alice, and Donnie, but they certainly wouldn't express their approval.

Anyway, that was their current attitude, a state of mind for both the Taft and Roosevelt families.

Come evening, Donnie Block appeared at the soirée alone. At a time like this, he couldn't afford to provoke the nerves of the Taft and Roosevelt families any further, so neither Helen nor Alice was present.

"Ha ha!"

With a hearty laugh, Harry D'Agostino, the current United States Secretary of Justice, approached Donnie with a wine glass in hand, looking him up and down.

"I thought I wouldn't see you here today!"

Donnie knew what he meant and replied with a smile, "How could I, the host, not show up at such an important event?"

Harry D'Agostino affectionately patted Donnie's shoulder and said, "I can't believe those two families just let you off the hook?"

Donnie also laughed, "You better keep it down, they are all here!"

Harry D'Agostino casually waved it off, "Seducing their princesses was your doing, not mine, what have I got to worry about if you're not worried!"

Now the closest of partners, Harry D'Agostino was able to take away 10 million US dollars in cash from Donnie each year, which in latter times would equate to a billion dollars.

Such a situation made Harry D'Agostino wisely choose to give up on some collaborations he considered second-rate, and precisely because of this behavior, he indeed did some commendable deeds after assuming office, making him one of the most reputable officials among the common populace in the Harding cabinet!

"If Harding knew about today, I bet he would be dying to learn from you!"

Donnie laughed, "Let's not let him do that. His pressure has been massive recently, and if such a thing happened again, his approval rate would probably drop!"

Since Harding became the President of the United States, like many other presidents, he faced disdain from the American people soon after taking office, especially after the media reported that Harding was not too keen on political affairs after moving into the White House; instead, he often played cards with his Cabinet Ministers.

This caused Harding's approval ratings to continuously decline.

"Harding asked me to thank you for your effort during this period!" Harry D'Agostino said earnestly.

During this time, most of the American media had been reporting on Harding's situation, and even some media outlets controlled by the Republican Party were doing so; only ABC and the "Atlantic City Post" didn't report on the matter, often praising some of Harding's policies.

"That's what should be done, whether as a friend or a supporter, I am very confident in Mr. Harding's abilities!"

Donnie had his reasons for doing so, to present himself as a firm collaborator, but it wasn't just for Harding; it was also for...
