Chapter 18: CH-18: RAVEN'S FRIEND GROUP
It was along the Legion's rules that the first two months after recruitment would be spent on basic training and the next two months on developing the particular psionic skills of the individuals. Debates and discussions were also held within the recruits on various topics like history, power and knowledge. A day from now, four battalions were to be formed as well.
Within two months, Axel stopped feeling the need to grab his smartphone and lounge on his soft couch back in his world. In contrast to his opinion just weeks ago, Axel had now formed a small friend group for himself. It was quite a contradicting action of his but he soon grew to accept it. His group consisted of Elias (the yapper), Darcia (the unwanted impertinent), Leon (the therapist) and him (the egghead of a thousand words).
One evening prior to the Division Day , the group was sitting at a tavern near the headquarters, sipping their alcohol in absolute boredom. Leon was practically asleep due to ennui.
"Hey! I have an idea. Why don't you describe us Odion, in your own words? Lets see what he thinks about us guys!"- Elias said loudly out of the blue, causing poor Leon to jolt up from his sleep and grab the red-head as a reflex.
"Why'd you do that?!"- Leon responded in annoyance.
"Do what?"- Elias feigned innocence.
Darcia eyed the two, her face screaming- This is usual.
"Out of everyone, why me?"- Axel said as he sipped his grape juice.
"Because you're the one with most of the words, perfectly rational!"- Elias answered. He knew where this was going to go.
"But the truth might hurt…"- Axel said cheekily, still holding a stern expression.
"As if your boring lectures don't."- Darcia said, a smirk playing on her face. Ugh this woman was really getting on Axel's nerves.
"Fine if you want to hear what I have to say about you… Then why not?"- Axel took it as a challenge just so he could avenge his non-existent dignity.
"I'm sure you think of me as your favourite person!"- Leon said, his head drooping.
"Well, first Elias. Wow, you really know how to talk huh. You keep talking day and night like a reckless chicken without even realising it. Your dances? Trust me, they are awful! If words were money, trust me Elias, you'd be a billionaire noble right now. You talk as if your mouth is getting chased by a cheetah, fast, incessantly and insanely unpredictable! I honestly want to study how your lungs even work. But yeah, I guess that's why I even made a friend like you."
Elias looked at him, as if he'd seen a ghost. Yep, this was not a good idea.
"Leon, really? You get so excessively hyped as if you're a bard who's found a tavern with heaps of meadow. Trust me every group has that one friend like you that screams- "LET'S GOOOOOO!!" at literally the smallest of things. However, I like the crazy side of you more than the times you act like you're possessed by some ghost at night. You're just like that orange cat down the town streets at Ms. Jenniper's fruit stall."
Hearing this, Leon started meowing out of nowhere. He was really very drunk.
"Don't even get me started on you Darcia. The woman you are. You have a PhD in sass and black belt in eye rolls. I ask you a simple question and you respond as if you're the main character of some play or something! Your tongue is so sharp, they are probably even sharper than your blade. You don't even walk, Darcia, you strut… as if someone's writing about you in their novel. Your attitude reminds me of that one raccoon, who knows its the best. Every conversation with you feels like a roast battle I didn't sign up for. I don't just dislike you, I spiritually oppose you Darcia and I'm pretty sure it's mutual between you and me."
Finally Axel heaved a sigh of exhaustion from all that yapping. But then he realised that what he'd said was definitely not what he prepared for.
Darcia looked at him indifferently and then finally responded with- "What is a PhD and what are black belts exactly?"
Axel gulped. He did not know what to say. He decided to just make something up in order to not blow his cover.
"Uh….PhD stands for Personality Hera Department and uhmmm, black belts are uh… something you get after you gave a test successfully… um in my uh, hometown!"- Axel answered nervously. But as he looked around, he found Harper, a cheeky little girl at the back laughing at him.
"It makes sense why I said those things! That little Harper, she has the ability to control words! Ugh… Just you wait Harper!"- Axel thought.
Before he could even apologise, the entire tavern along with his friends started laughing in merriment. Axel was taken aback by this abrupt commotion. He thought his friends would be angry or disappointed at his rude descriptions but even the unbearable Darcia started laughing.
"You guys aren't upset at my words?!"- Axel asked, confused.
"Upset? That's the funniest way anyone has described me yet!" Leon responded as his drowsiness slowly faded.
"No way you said that… Looks like I ain't the only sassy one here!"- Darcia let out a chuckle.
"Seriously? A chicken? That's hilarious! It was a good idea after all!!"- Elias chortled.
"They all look so genuine-" before Axel could even finish the thought, the system notification bell rang.

"What?! You never even mentioned that there was such a task!" - Axel yelled inwardly.
After a good long laugh, Darcia spoke with curiosity- "So, which battalions are you guys heading to?"
"I really wanted us all to be in the same battalion, but considering our different powers, I'm not so sure."
"Hallukinesis is a type of power inclusive of spells and incantations so I think the Aetheric Battalion would be the one for me."- Leon remarked, a spark of hope in his eyes.
"Probably the Validus Battalion"- Elias said lazily.
"I think the Stygian Battalion is the best for me…"- said Darcia.
Then the three of them looked towards Axel, eager to hear his response.
"I haven't thought yet."- Axel responded. He remembered how in the original work, Odion was part of the Salvian Battalion, which specialized in healing but this time… his psionic was different.
"When are you going to think? The division is tomorrow! Two months weren't enough for you Odion?"- Leon giggled.
"I'll think tonight."
