Chapter 5: Spirit master
Rehan stood before Nick, his heart pounding as he tried to process everything he had just learned. Spirit energy... the rarest and most mysterious power. And he had it.
Nick observed him with a calculating gaze before speaking in his usual calm yet authoritative tone. "Rehan, you have immense potential. Spirit Masters are few, and those who truly master this power are even rarer. If you can hone your abilities, you will surpass even some of the strongest warriors."
Rehan took a deep breath, still reeling from the revelation. "How do I train it? How do I make it stronger?"
Nick nodded approvingly at his eagerness. "Spirit energy is about control and willpower. Your mind must extend beyond your body, connecting with objects as if they are a part of you. At first, your range will be small, and your force limited. But with time, you will be able to manipulate multiple objects at once, even control weapons in ways no ordinary warrior can." He paused, then added, "Practice is the key. Concentrate, exert your will, and feel the world around you."
Rehan listened carefully, committing every word to memory. Nick gave him a final nod before dismissing him.
As Rehan stepped out of the hall, he saw John waiting for him, arms crossed and an impatient look on his face. "Well? What happened in there?"
Rehan hesitated for a moment before deciding not to hide anything. "Overseer Nick said I have the potential to be a Spirit Master. He taught me how to train it."
John's eyes widened in pure shock. "A Spirit Master?! Do you know how rare that is? There are entire base cities without a single Spirit Master, and we only have one—Nick! And now... you?"
Rehan scratched the back of his head. "I don't know, I still have to practice."
John let out a low whistle. "Kid, you just keep surprising me. First, your absurdly fast cultivation speed, and now this?" He shook his head, still in disbelief. "If you ever reach Nick's level, you'll be a force that even high-level warriors will fear."
Rehan smiled slightly at that but didn't reply. He had a long way to go.
After parting ways with John, he rushed home, eager to test Nick's advice. Once in his room, he sat cross-legged, closing his eyes to focus. He took a deep breath, calming his mind. Slowly, he reached out—not with his hands, but with his thoughts.
Something stirred within him. A power that wasn't physical but was undeniably there. His eyes snapped open, glowing faintly gold as an invisible force extended outward. He could feel everything around him—the air, the objects, even the faintest movements in his room.
His gaze landed on a small knife resting on the table. He concentrated on it, pushing his will toward it. The knife trembled slightly, then slowly lifted into the air. Rehan's breath caught in his throat as he watched it float. He was controlling it. The realization sent a rush of excitement through him.
He willed the knife to move, directing it toward the window. It floated smoothly, but as it neared 100 meters away, a strange sensation hit him—his connection was weakening. The knife wobbled before dropping to the ground.
"So that's my range... 100 meters," Rehan muttered to himself, mentally noting the limitation.
Not satisfied yet, he picked the knife up again with his mind. This time, he tried something different—applying force. The knife shot forward, slicing through a thick wooden beam outside. The beam cracked instantly, a clean cut splitting it in half.
Rehan's eyes widened. "That... was powerful."
He took a deep breath, exhilarated by the discovery. His spirit power not only let him move objects but also amplified their force. He experimented for another hour, getting a better feel for his control. Each minute, the knife felt more natural in his grasp, as if it were an extension of his own body.
Satisfied with his progress, he finally stopped and turned his attention back to his breathing technique. Now that he had resolved his doubts, he didn't hesitate like the previous night. Sitting back down, he focused on absorbing cosmic energy.
Immediately, he felt the energy surging into him, faster than before. His cells greedily absorbed the power, growing stronger by the second. He cultivated for hours until hunger finally forced him to stop.
After a quick lunch, he resumed his training. Time passed in a blur, and soon, the afternoon arrived. Deciding he needed fresh air, he stepped outside.
Unfortunately, he wasn't alone.
Rudra stood a few feet away, smirking arrogantly. "Well, well, if it isn't the failure who couldn't even take his final exam."
Rehan exhaled sharply, already irritated. "Not in the mood, Rudra."
But Rudra wasn't done. "You think you're something special because you passed the first stage? You'll always be nothing but a lowlife!"
Rehan's patience snapped. Without another word, he clenched his fist and swung. The moment his punch connected with Rudra's face, a loud boom echoed in the air.
Rudra's body flew back like a ragdoll, crashing ten meters away before collapsing in a heap. He didn't move.
Rehan dusted off his knuckles, his face emotionless. "I warned you."
Just as he turned to leave, he noticed someone standing nearby—John.
John stared at him, utterly stunned. "What... what was that?!"
Rehan frowned. "What do you mean? I just punched him."
"Just punched him?!" John walked over, still trying to process what he had just seen. "That was not a normal punch. That was like getting hit by a truck. And your strength—it's grown again, hasn't it?"
Rehan paused, thinking. His strength had increased. He had been training non-stop, and now, after refining his breathing technique without hesitation, his absorption rate had skyrocketed. His power had likely surpassed the 1500 kg mark in just one night.
John shook his head in disbelief. "Kid, you're a monster. A complete freak of nature. I don't know what's happening with you, but whatever it is... don't stop."
Rehan smirked slightly. "I wasn't planning to."
John exhaled heavily, rubbing his temples. "Spirit power, rapid cultivation, insane battle sense... I can't believe I'm saying this, but you might actually be the strongest genius this city has seen in years."
Rehan didn't reply, but inside, he felt a spark of excitement. Maybe he really was different. Maybe he was meant for something greater.
