Miss Fortune's measurements were excellent, and her height and weight were well-proportioned. But despite the alluring data, Link's eyes remained calm and indifferent. To him, women were nowhere near as interesting as mechs.
After recording Miss Fortune's data on the right side of the blueprint, Link glanced at her blushing face and began designing and simulating in his mind.
"Most skilled with firearms?" Link asked casually. Miss Fortune was taken aback but nodded lightly. She brushed aside the curly red bangs on her forehead and glanced away, murmuring, "Ever since I started, I've been using all kinds of guns. My mother was a famous gunsmith, so—"
"Alright, then I won't equip you with close-combat weapons."
Link sketched a blueprint on the draft paper. What he had in mind for Miss Fortune was an upgraded version of the electric clockwork exoskeleton he had previously discarded. However, the design and model would need to be tailored specifically for her.
"Proficient with firearms, no close-combat weapons, so agility and speed will be the primary attributes of the armor. At the same time, to ensure protection, the armor's hardness must also be top-notch."
"Hmm—" Link glanced at Miss Fortune. "How's your physical stamina?"
"It's... decent," Miss Fortune replied, her cheeks feeling warm. Although she was used to teasing others, being questioned so directly was a first for her. She felt as if, in front of this young man, she was completely exposed, as if she were standing naked before him, with no secrets or privacy.
"Alright, considering you'll be my 'white glove,' helping me manage Bilgewater and frequently making public appearances to maintain visibility, a full-coverage helmet wouldn't suit you."
"Without a helmet, the shimmer breathing valve would have to be scrapped. Instead, I'll design a subcutaneous shimmer injection pump integrated with the armor's cooling system."
"Shimmer—" Miss Fortune's eyelids twitched as she recalled the blue potion that had flowed into Bilgewater from Zaun. Before she could say anything, Link spoke without looking up, "You know about it?"
"Some batches came over from Piltover. People who used it turned into monsters. Some gangs in Bilgewater bought it—it's very potent."
Miss Fortune shuddered as she remembered the gang members who had used shimmer. While it granted immense strength, the side effects were severe, causing physical deformities and turning users into grotesque creatures.
"Hmph, I didn't expect Silco's business to reach overseas," Link shook his head, then explained, "Don't worry, my shimmer has no side effects. It's a perfect potion designed for comprehensive human enhancement."
"Repeated use can even grant you permanent enhancements."
Seeing Miss Fortune's eyes light up with hope, Link added calmly, "However, this enhancement will only help you approach the limits of human physical potential. It won't allow you to surpass them."
"Alright, the basic elements are all set. Your employee benefits will arrive in a couple of days." Link looked up at Miss Fortune. "Why are you still standing here? Get to work."
"Ah? Oh!" Miss Fortune snapped out of her daze and turned to leave. After a few steps, she turned back. "Wait, what exactly is my job—"
"Right, I haven't assigned you any tasks yet." Link tapped the draft paper with his pencil and said directly, "Help me arrange meetings with all the gang leaders in Bilgewater. I have some announcements to make."
"Also, get me a topographic map of Bilgewater. Finally, send someone to keep an eye on the temple and the priests who worship Nagakabouros. Report any movements to me immediately."
"That's all your tasks for now."
Link's eyes locked onto Miss Fortune's. "Do a good job, and if you satisfy me, I might reward you."
"Yes," Miss Fortune turned and left. Link listened to her footsteps fading away before turning his attention back to the draft in his hands.
This was, in a sense, the first time he was designing an exoskeleton armor for a hero. What? You say Jinx's set doesn't count? That was just a modified version of his old armor that he gave to her. With only one night to prepare, not only did he have to design armor for Jinx, but he also had to create weapons based on her in-game abilities. What more could you expect in such a short time?
"Everything must be perfect. So, what theme should I use for Miss Fortune's exoskeleton armor?"
Link sat in the large chair that once belonged to Gangplank, his feet propped up on the wide wooden desk. His mind wandered to Miss Fortune's in-game skins.
"Hmm, using in-game skins as a design theme is a good idea, but which one should I choose?"
Link's mind flashed through Miss Fortune's skins: Cowgirl, Royal Guard, Arcade, Pool Party, Star Guardian, Gun Goddess...
"Let's go with Gun Goddess." After deciding on the theme, Link began sketching the design.
The armor would feature a high-density bodysuit as the inner layer, with the exoskeleton following the body's contours. Key areas like the chest, abdomen, and back would be heavily protected. The chest plate had to be wide enough to ensure comfort and functionality.
Additionally, Miss Fortune needed to show her face to maintain her presence in Bilgewater, but facial protection couldn't be ignored. A crystal visor made by Pride would solve that problem.
Finally, he integrated all the elements discussed with Miss Fortune, resulting in a Gun Goddess-themed exoskeleton armor.
"A good attempt," Link murmured as he admired the finished design. After a moment, he tossed the blueprint onto the table and began pondering.
Using skins as a theme for designing exoskeletons, armor, or even mechs was an interesting research topic. Not only would it enhance the strength of heroes aligned with him, but it would also increase his influence.
If Miss Fortune, as the first test subject, provided positive feedback, he could extend this project to Camille, Jinx, Vander, Viktor, Singed, and even Caitlyn and Vi.
Once Miss Fortune's trial succeeded, Camille would naturally be the second candidate. Camille's in-game skins numbered only seven, with only two fitting the mech theme: Program and Hextech. Program was too simplistic, but Hextech was a solid choice.
If Camille was second, Jinx would be third. Jinx had fourteen skins, with three fitting the mech theme: Odyssey, Project, and Battle Cat.
Perhaps he could extract mech elements from hero skins or even design skins based on in-game mech themes like Project, Mecha Kingdoms, Battlecast, and more.
"I'll add this to my memo for now and tackle it when I have more time," Link noted in his memo. He had just begun exploring Runeterra, and completing this project would take at least five years. No rush.
The skin project, at its core, was about enhancing his faction's strength to prepare for upcoming or potential crises. For example, the Harrowing, which was less than ten days away. In such a short time, preparing adequately would be no small feat.
He needed to bolster his forces, both to deal with the Harrowing and to solidify his control over Bilgewater in the future. Recruiting or subduing new allies was crucial. Bilgewater had only nine local heroes—not many, but not few either.
Among Bilgewater's four legendary terrors—Fizz, Nautilus, Pyke, and Tahm Kench—only Fizz and Tahm Kench were potential recruits.
Fizz was neutral-aligned, but his language was incomprehensible, and his mischievous, playful nature made him a wildcard. If Link could appeal to his interests, he might be able to recruit him.
As for Tahm Kench— Link stared at the healed wound on his hand, rubbing the pad of his little finger. He wondered if his abilities would work on demons.
Demons in Runeterra were unique. They were born alongside humans, feeding on human emotions—pain, fear, greed—essentially the embodiment of negative emotions. They were immortal. Even if destroyed, they would be reborn as long as negative emotions existed in humans. And as long as negative emotions existed, demons could exploit them.
"Emotions... emociones..." Link tapped the desk. "If I could block emotions, could I prevent Tahm Kench from affecting me?"
"To block emotions, perhaps I should start with the frontal lobe—"
