Arena of Sinister Passions

Chapter 5: Indifference

After a long walk, Fhize and Rose returned to the Lamborghini and as they got on the main road, heading back to the city, Fhize's eyes trailed the convoy of police cars that sped past them.

"You're strong,"

Fhize's words came suddenly and if he was watching the woman he would have seen that genuine surprise flashed in her eyes at his words.

"Two compliments in a day. What have you done with Fhize you imposter."

Rose's joke put a sour look on Fhize's face but he quickly brushed it off and focused on asking a question.

"I'm guessing what we just did was a mission from the hunters association."

Rose frowned at this, looking towards Fhize and shaking her head.

"It's a mission but not from the hunter's association, I got it from the police."

"Police! Hunters take missions from the police."

"I'm not a hunter Fhize, I'm from the military"

Rose's words surprised Fhize but looking down at his phone, he hid it, finding her words answering some questions he had within.

They were a few more questions Fhize wanted to ask but he was hesitant to do so and strengthen his relationship with Rose, but then a glance at her and the sight of a cocky smirk on her lips let him know that she knew he was a bundle of curiosity at the moment.

"How strong are you"

"Strong enough"

"What is your rank in the military"

"Classified"

"To me or the world."

"What does it matter"

"I could just go and look you up, know what I want."

"Not a bad idea"

A few seconds of more silence passed and the Rose spoke this time.

"You're strong. When the school books said you had a force of near 1000lbs I thought it was a joke, but you brought a hardened fighter to his knees with just a single punch.

Any secrets you're not telling me"

"There is no secret, I've always been this strong"

"Well if you learned some skills and refined your fighting, you would be a beast among non-hunters"

"Sure" Fhize muttered.

Letting out a breadth Fhize relaxed in the seat of the car running his hands over its smooth dashboard.

"I didn't know military personnel were so rich"

"Wel it isn't a general thing" Rose said as they passed through the city gate without being stopped for identification, Fhize now understanding why the same had happened earlier on their exit.

"I'm guessing you didn't activate your system"

"No"

Rose's words were soft but Fhize's reply was indifferent like what they spoke about didn't matter.

With the rain, gone all that was in the sky was a dull shine of the setting sun and after driving for some minutes, Rose brought the car to a stop.

Fhize looked at her questioningly and she turning the engine off, turned to face him.

"I still have one more method we could try"

Fhize raised an eyebrow at her words, but before they could go any further, his phone rang and when he saw the caller, he immediately answered.

"Hey Mom,"

"...."

"No worries, I'm on my way, you'll see me any minute now"

"...."

"Bye"

Ending the call Fhize relaxed back into his seat, facing the road.

"Take me home, we'll try this your second method another time."

Rose took a swallow at Fhize's indifference, her mind churning at the fact that he didn't even give her an explanation on the sudden postponement, she wanted to be mad and tell him to take what they were doing seriously, but she knew the boy, if she didn't do what he said, he would be out of this car and walking home.

Logically she should have no problem with him leaving her and walking home, but at times, her heart trigged and she couldn't control herself, she didn't know when but at some point she had graduated from just being curious about him to now wanting to please him and make him fall for her.

Without a word, Rose started the car and drove till she arrived at his house and stopped.

"Do you want me to follow you, help you explain things to your parents?"

"No"

Fhize's words were cold and Rose could not help but sigh within, whenever Fhize had the least interactions with his parents, it was like his personality did a total reset.

The little bits of warmth that had begun seeping out of him become wiped out and he is a cold dark block of energy.

"Here have these, you'll need to put the shield generator somewhere"

Looking at Rose's hand, Fhize spotted a sparkling silver ring with red glowing lines running around its interior.

He gulped with thirst as his mind swirled around the fact that Rose wanted to give him her storage ring but then fighting off the desire in his heart, he instead dropped the shield generator in her hand.

"No thanks"

"Your loss" Rose said with a shrug as Fhize exited, but within her she was angry at herself and frustrated with him.

...

The second Fhize entered his house, taking off his shoes and dropping to the side, he forgot all about Rose and anything that had to do with the outside world, the indifferent look on his face vanished and with a smile on his face he marched to the Living room.

"Hey dad" Fhize greeted, fist bumping the older man who was currently on the couch, watching tv.

"Ahh, my young stunner, how you doing"

"Fine"

"Where's mom"

"In the kitchen."

Not wasting a second, Fhize went into the kitchen delivering a peck to a barefoot woman in apron who currently slicing some vegetables.

Fhize had a smile reaching to his ears but when the woman turned to him she was frowning.

Just like him, Fhize mother had a shiny black hair and she kept it long while keeping her face on a light make up and cherry lip gloss, she stood a bit shorter than Fhize but her fiery temper sometimes had him wondering if his father hadn't been beaten into proposing.

"What are you doing coming home so wet and why are you late."

"Was with Miss Rose"

"Oh. Well, I'll never understand your fascination with maps and locations. Why not love something more appropriate like machines, you could be an Aether engineer."

"Leave the boy Racheal, his going to take me to mars" Fhize father shouted from the living room, but his mother merely rolled her eyes at his words.

"What does geography have to think with space travel" she muttered.

Fhize's mother gave him a look from head to toe making sure he was okay and then she tapped his back away.

"Go clean up and get down here quick, I need help with backing the chicken, you know it's your specialty.

"I'm going to make it spicy this time" Fhize said as he headed out the kitchen and while his mother shouted words of complaint to that idea, his father praised him from the living room.

Climbing up stairs and getting to his room, when Fhize pushed open the door of his room, a sweet childish voice roared at him he collapsed to the floor in fright, rolling on the floor in mock fear.

"Got you" a young girl laughed at him, running out of his room in excitement.

For the time being, all the baggage Fhize carried outside the house were dropped, all he knew was his father Peter Hungreg who was a manager at a contracting company, his mother Racheal a social lawyer, and his troublesome sister Hannah. Fhize had a loving family and a happy home and he cherished this more than anything in the world.
