Chapter 133: Chapter 133: I Have the Hulk
One second, Loki was bragging about his Chitauri army being unbeatable. The next, he saw his soldiers tumbling out of the portal like raindrops.
The drastic shift in mood left him utterly dumbfounded.
"What... what's happening?"
"What's wrong with my army?"
"What did you do to them?"
Loki whipped around to glare at his brother. Thor looked equally confused at first but then burst out laughing.
"So, this is your so-called invincible army? Brother, you see? I told you someone was deceiving you!"
"You didn't believe me before, did you? Well, do you now, dear brother? Stop this meaningless struggle and surrender already."
Loki yelled, "No! This isn't how it was supposed to be! I am the King of Asgard! I was promised this—promised Earth!"
Thor immediately shouted back, "Who? Tell me now! Who made such promises to you, and who gave you this army?"
Loki sneered, "Why should I tell you? You'll never know the answer, my dear brother."
Thor's face darkened. "You're still hiding things? Even now?"
"Loki, come back to Asgard with me. Mother's waiting for us."
Loki's expression flickered at the mention of their mother. Even for the "God of Mischief," her name carried some weight.
But the change was fleeting. He quickly reverted to his usual smirk. "Dear brother, she's your mother, not mine. So whether she's waiting for me or not doesn't really matter to me."
Thor took a step forward, his voice growing louder. "Is there truly nothing you care about?"
"Of course there is!" Loki shouted, taking a step forward himself. He pointed at Thor and roared, "I want Father's approval! I'm the rightful heir to the throne!"
"You, Thor Odinson, the so-called God of Thunder, are nothing but a brute who only knows how to fight! Reckless, violent, and thoughtless—you are unfit to be king!"
"But look at what Father did. He promised one of us would inherit the throne. And yet, even though I am clearly more qualified, he still chose you!"
"It's disgusting!"
"Your sanctimoniousness, the way all of you look at me—as if I'm some stray dog begging for scraps!"
"Did Odin take me in from the Frost Giants because he feared I'd die alone? Or was it guilt for starting that war?"
"If that's the case, why didn't he save the other orphans too? Why just me? Answer me, you hypocritical Asgardians!"
At this moment, Iron Man flew over, hovering in mid-air. "Sorry to interrupt your family drama, but we're on a tight schedule here. Hey, you thief! Close the portal already!"
Thor pointed his hammer at Iron Man. "Show some respect. Loki is from Asgard!" Then he turned to Loki. "But he's right. Tell us how to shut the portal. I'd rather not have more surprises falling out of it."
Thor glanced upward. The portal was still releasing debris, but now flames were pouring out. It resembled the gates of a mythical hell, spewing its infernal fire into the mortal realm.
Loki gestured lazily toward the control device and shook his head. "You think I'd understand this thing?"
Iron Man activated his full arsenal, locking onto Loki. "I think you'd better start understanding."
Loki scoffed. "Tin Man, do you think your toys scare me? When I roamed the Nine Realms, you weren't even a speck of dust in the universe."
Inside his helmet, Tony Stark chuckled dryly. "Oh, is that so? Let's test that."
Before he could follow through, Thor interjected. "Enough. I'll destroy the device myself." He spun Mjolnir and launched himself toward the rooftop. Lightning surged through the hammer as he struck the device.
Iron Man shouted, "I already tried that! It doesn't—"
Before he could finish, there was a deafening hum. Thor was flung backward by an electric surge from the force field, tumbling across the rooftop in a very undignified manner.
Loki pointed at Thor in the distance, smirking as he casually walked toward the edge of the building. "See? I told you he's a reckless brute. Asgard under his rule would be a disaster. But nobody ever listens to me. Nobody."
As Loki reached the edge, a voice called out. "Step back, Loki, or we'll open fire."
A Quinjet rose into view, its aircraft cannons trained on Loki. Inside, Captain America, Black Widow, and Bruce Banner watched him carefully.
Loki raised his hands and took a step back, smiling faintly. "Fine. You've got me outnumbered. I surrender."
Captain America carried an untransformed Banner onto the walkway while Thor returned to secure Loki. With Loki bound and gagged, they ensured he couldn't speak to manipulate anyone further.
When they reached the rooftop, Dr. Erik Selvig was stirring awake. His eyes had returned to normal, free from the scepter's influence.
"Doctor, are you okay?" Iron Man asked, helping him up.
Selvig nodded weakly. "I'm fine… My God, what have I done?"
Captain America stepped forward. "No time for regrets, Doctor. Do you know how to close the portal?"
Selvig hesitated before answering. "The scepter… Loki's scepter. Its energy is the only thing that can counter the Tesseract."
Stark nodded. "Banner and I confirmed that back on the Helicarrier. The scepter's power resonates with the cube's."
Selvig added, "Yes. Using the scepter will stop the Tesseract because their energies are the same."
Stark clapped his hands. "Perfect. Let's shut this thing down, send the Chitauri packing, and celebrate with drinks later. But, uh… where's the scepter?"
Thor stepped forward. "I know where it is."
"Great, muscle man. Lead the way," Stark quipped. "By the way, those arms must be a hit with the ladies."
Thor grinned. "Even the women of Asgard admire me."
Black Widow rolled her eyes. "Focus, gentlemen."
Thor cleared his throat. "The scepter was taken by that red-caped figure we fought on the Helicarrier. He seemed to favor capes, just like me. Perhaps I should try blue next?"
Captain America tightened his grip on his shield. "Does anyone know where this mysterious figure is?"
Before anyone could answer, a voice rang out from above. "Looking for me?"
Everyone turned to see a man in black armor descending gracefully onto the rooftop. A vibrant red cape billowed behind him. In his hand was Loki's scepter.
Loki froze. So did Thor. The stranger stood confidently, surveying them all.
"Let's talk," the man said, a sly smile playing on his lips.
