Chapter 1:
Chapter 1: Becoming Cannon Fodder?:
“Chen Mo, trash Spirit Vein.”
In the centre of the imperial capital of the Heavenly Dragon Empire, on the awakening stage, an old man announced loudly, and the square erupted into chaos.
“Trash Spirit Vein? Isn’t that the lowest level among Spirit Veins? It can’t even open meridians or lead to cultivation!”
“If he can’t open his meridians or cultivate, it means Chen Mo will never be able to practice in this lifetime. If he were an ordinary person, it might be tolerable, but he’s the third son of the Chen family. This makes him no different from a useless person. The Chen family’s reputation will take a huge hit if this spreads.”
“I heard he was sent to school in his early years but was expelled because of his poor aptitude. He’s neither good at academics nor martial arts. If that’s the case, I’m afraid the Chen family won’t be able to tolerate him much longer.”
The crowd’s whispers echoed across the square as all eyes focused on a solitary figure standing on the awakening stage.
Chen Mo, the center of attention, looked lost. His eyes were clouded with confusion, and his thoughts were scattered.
‘Who am I?
Where am I?
What’s happening?’
As his gaze scanned the unfamiliar surroundings, a memory surfaced. He muttered under his breath, “I remember… I was in the 3D section, 18+, and then…”
‘Am I weak?’
‘Only six times? Impossible.’
‘No… Could it be… transmigration?’
Just as this thought crossed his mind, an overwhelming surge of memories flooded his consciousness, playing like a vivid slideshow.
He was Chen Mo, the third son of the Chen family in the imperial capital of the Heavenly Dragon Empire. His mother had passed away when he was young, and because she had been a maid, his status within the family was low. His two elder brothers often bullied him, and his father barely acknowledged his existence.
Chen Mo sighed deeply.
This world was like something out of a fantasy. People here could either pursue academic excellence and become respected officials or practice martial arts and achieve immense power.
But Chen Mo couldn’t do either. He was destined to be an ordinary person, devoid of any meaningful role.
The Chen family, while not the most prestigious in the imperial capital, held a certain level of influence. As a member of this family, Chen Mo could be a wastrel, but he could never be a nobody.
“This beginning… is a bit too harsh.”
A bitter smile surfaced onto Chen Mo’s lips.
His poor standing in the family had now worsened, and he had become a disgrace, lacking talent in both academics and martial arts. Yet, as the world’s history and its systems integrated into his mind, a strange sense of familiarity struck him.
It was as if he had seen all this before.
“How long are you planning to stand there and embarrass yourself? Get down before you humiliate the Chen family any further!”
A loud voice interrupted his thoughts.
In the square, a young man in a scholar’s robe strode forward, standing at the foot of the awakening stage with his hands on his hips. His tone was scornful as he spat out the words.
The man’s gray-white robe and hosta hairpiece gave him an air of self-importance. His eyes gleamed with arrogance.
Chen Mo recognized him instantly. He was Chen Jin, the eldest son of the Chen family and his half-brother.
Like Chen Mo, Chen Jin had no talent for martial arts. Born with a trash Spirit Vein, he would never become a martial artist. However, he had passed the scholar examination the previous year, which inflated his ego.
Though they shared the same father, Chen Jin looked down on Chen Mo, a maid’s son. The rigid hierarchy of their world made Chen Mo’s status barely better than that of a servant.
Normally, Chen Mo’s original self would have endured the bullying silently, bowing his head to avoid further trouble. But this time, something in him snapped.
His memories clarified, and he suddenly recalled why this world felt so familiar. He had read a novel on a random website in his past life. The plot matched everything in his mind.
In the novel, the original Chen Mo was a minor, insignificant character. But his elder brother, Chen Jin, was a prominent villain who provoked the protagonist. This led to the Chen family’s complete annihilation, sparing no one.
A chill ran down Chen Mo’s spine. He rushed off the awakening stage, grabbed Chen Jin by the collar, and shouted, “Have you offended someone named Ye Liangchen recently?”
His uncharacteristic outburst startled everyone, especially Chen Jin.
Chen Jin quickly regained his composure, sneering as he shoved Chen Mo away. “Recognize your place, you lowly servant’s son. You think you can speak to me like this just because we share some blood?”
His voice turned venomous. “You’re nothing more than a bastard born to a maid. You’ve always been unworthy of the Chen family name.”
Chen Jin stepped closer, grabbing Chen Mo’s collar and raising his fist, his face twisted with rage. “Today, I’ll teach you a lesson—for your dead mother.”
Before the punch landed, a crisp sound echoed across the square.
Chen Jin froze. His cheek stung with a fiery pain, and a trickle of blood dripped from the corner of his mouth.
The crowd stared in stunned silence.
Chen Jin had been slapped.
And it wasn’t by just anyone—it was by Chen Mo, the one who had always cowered before him, the one who never dared to resist.
Chen Jin was utterly humiliated…
