Chen Mo’s eyes widened, disbelief written all over his face. The beautiful teacher, the one who had always been kind to him and whom he loved deeply, was with Xu Hao? It looked like something unspeakable had just happened between them.

The thought of Teacher Wang, whom he had held in the highest regard, becoming close to Xu Hao—a man nearly 50 years old—was unbearable.

Chen Mo felt as if his heart was being crushed.

Three years ago, he had been framed by someone from the Liu family, and it was Teacher Wang Xueying who had tirelessly fought for his freedom. That’s when she had taken root in his heart.

Upon his release from prison, he swore he would protect her from harm. But now, after just a few days at the police station, his beloved teacher had fallen into the hands of Xu Hao, an old scoundrel.

It wasn’t just Teacher Wang. Even Xia Qingge, the beautiful goddess of the school, had been taken by Xu Hao. Chen Mo couldn’t comprehend the future.

His two most cherished women had both fallen under Xu Hao’s control. It felt as if his heart was bleeding, and his body was about to explode.

“Wang… Teacher Wang, why are you with him?” Chen Mo stammered, his voice trembling. His sudden appearance startled Wang Xueying.

Upon recognizing her former student, she blushed and lowered her head in embarrassment. She had always wanted to keep her relationship with Xu Hao a secret, but now it seemed Chen Mo had seen through everything.

Was it that obvious?

She thought back to how they had walked together earlier—it could certainly be misunderstood. Her face flushed as she shot a glance at Xu Hao. This was all his fault. He didn’t know how to treat a woman gently and seemed to never tire.

Suddenly, she realized something. Her relationship with Xu Hao couldn’t be exposed. But now that they had been caught, she needed an excuse.

“Don’t get the wrong idea. Xu Hao and I are just friends. We were just having dinner together.” She tried to explain.

Chen Mo’s lips twitched.

Friends?

That close, and she expects him to believe it’s just friendship? Did she take him for a child?

Wang Xueying realized he wasn’t buying it and didn’t want to explain further. Suddenly, she felt Xu Hao’s arm tighten around her waist, pulling her into his embrace. Startled, she looked up and met Xu Hao’s affectionate gaze.

“Now that everything’s out in the open, there’s no point in hiding it,” Xu Hao said, turning to Chen Mo. “You’re right. We’re together. As Xueying’s student, I hope you can give us your blessing.”

Xu Hao knew he didn’t have to hide the truth from Chen Mo. After all, the boy wouldn’t live to see the next day. Revealing it now would only add to Chen Mo’s suffering and give Xu Hao more emotional points to collect.

Wang Xueying was stunned.

She thought Xu Hao had been joking about announcing their relationship. Hearing it for real both moved and terrified her.

What would the students and teachers think of her if this became public?

How could she face anyone again?

She tried to pull away from Xu Hao’s grasp, but his hold was too strong. She even pinched the soft flesh at his waist, hoping to make him let go, but it didn’t work. Xu Hao didn’t feel any pain at all.

Wang Xueying gave up. She had no choice. Blushing furiously, she buried her face in Xu Hao’s chest, feeling utterly embarrassed.

However, Chen Mo was trembling with rage. This was more than he could bear. Not only had Xu Hao stolen the woman he adored, but now he was flaunting it right in front of him, asking for his blessing. It was too much. His fists clenched so tightly that his nails dug into his palms, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the anguish in his heart.

“You… idiot! Let go of Teacher Wang!” Chen Mo finally snapped, his voice filled with anger. He raised his fist to punch Xu Hao.

But just as he was about to swing, he froze.

Wang Xueying had stepped in front of Xu Hao, blocking him.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Wang Xueying asked coldly, frowning at Chen Mo. She had already accepted her relationship with Xu Hao, even though it wasn’t public knowledge yet.

Seeing Chen Mo’s anger, she felt nothing but disappointment.

Chen Mo’s heart ached as he realized that the woman he loved was now defending his enemy. “Teacher Wang, you don’t understand. He’s deceiving you!” he said, struggling to keep his emotions in check.

Wang Xueying’s eyes were cold. “This is our business. There’s no need for you to interfere.” She had lost all sympathy for Chen Mo, especially after seeing him with gang members. Now she thought he was simply trying to stir up trouble.

Seeing her distrustful gaze, Chen Mo felt numb. How could he convince her that Xu Hao was a liar, a hypocrite hiding his true nature?

Desperate, he tried again. “Teacher Wang, I’m telling the truth. Last time, I saw Xu Hao with Xia Qingge. He wants to have both of you, his student and his teacher!” Chen Mo’s voice was thick with sadness and anger.

The more he thought about it, the more his heart broke. An old man like Xu Hao had achieved what Chen Mo couldn’t even dare to dream of.

Chen Mo felt as though he was suffocating, his chest tight with pain.

Wang Xueying’s face was filled with confusion.

Could this be true?

She knew Xia Qingge well. After all, Xia had been her student, excelling in school, even comparable to top students like Xu Shiqing and Xu Huayi.

Could it be that Xu Hao and Xia Qingge were really together?

The thought of being involved with her own student in such a way made Wang Xueying feel deeply ashamed. She wished she could disappear into the ground.

Finally, Xu Hao, who had been silently watching the situation unfold, spoke up.

“Are you talking about Xia Qingge? She’s the daughter of a close friend of mine. Her father asked me to help her because she was being harassed by the Liu family’s spoiled brat. So, I arranged a job for her in my company.”

He paused, looking calm. “I was only giving her a ride home that day.”

Wang Xueying nodded in understanding.

She knew Liu Fei, the son of the Liu family, had been obsessed with Xia Qingge. Xu Hao’s explanation seemed plausible.

But Chen Mo was livid.

“I saw you give her roses!” he exclaimed.

“It was her birthday, and she loves roses. The restaurant gave them to her as a gift,” Xu Hao replied, his tone still calm.

Chen Mo felt like he was about to burst. He clearly remembered seeing them together in the car, acting far too intimate for just a boss and employee.

“What about the time I saw you kissing her in your car?” Chen Mo’s voice rose in frustration.

Xu Hao’s face remained neutral, but his tone turned incredulous. “Are you serious? Xia Qingge is like a niece to me. We’re generations apart. You must have misunderstood what you saw.”

His righteous demeanor only made Wang Xueying more convinced. She nodded again, believing him completely. After all, Xu Hao had always been respectable. There was no way he would be inappropriate with his friend’s daughter.

Chen Mo felt like vomiting blood at this moment.

If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes and even asked Xia Qingge about it, he might’ve believed Xu Hao’s lie. His teeth ground together in frustration.

Fuming, Chen Mo glared at Xu Hao. “If you’re telling the truth, swear on your life that you haven’t lied!”

Xu Hao raised his hand, pretending to be angry, ready to swear. But Wang Xueying quickly stopped him.

“Don’t say things like that!” she said, her voice firm, and she turned to Chen Mo with a cold glare. “That’s enough! Whatever is going on between Director Xu and me is our business. You don’t need to get involved.”

Her tone was cold, a far cry from the warmth Chen Mo remembered. She turned back to Xu Hao, took his hand, and led him inside the restaurant.

Chen Mo stood there, completely stunned. It was as if lightning had struck him. He had always known Wang Xueying to be kind, gentle, and full of compassion. She had been the one to help him when he was framed, selflessly supporting him. But today, she was unrecognizable—cold, distant, and indifferent, as if he were a stranger.

His heart shattered into pieces.

“Why?” he muttered to himself. Everything he had said was true, but Wang Xueying didn’t believe him. She only saw the lies spun by Xu Hao, a manipulative hypocrite.

Chen Mo wanted to walk away, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t accept it. He convinced himself that Wang Xueying wasn’t to blame; she was merely deceived by Xu Hao’s lies.

He decided to stay, hoping that maybe, just maybe, she would come to her senses and realize the truth.

But instead of confronting Xu Hao, Wang Xueying spent the meal happily with him. The two of them were even feeding each other, more affectionate than any couple in love. Xu Hao’s arm was around her waist the entire time.

Chen Mo’s eyes turned red with rage, his body trembling with fury. His killing intent was nearly evident.

Meanwhile, at Tianyuan Restaurant, Chen Mo’s brothers were gathering. They had planned to meet with their leader, Gao Qiangsheng, who had just been released from prison. This was a special place for them, the Brotherhood’s old haunt, a place filled with memories.

Inside the private room, the phone lines were busy.

“The number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable…”

Chen Mo hadn’t arrived yet, and the others assumed his phone had simply died after his days in the police station.

“Don’t worry about him. Let’s start,” Gao Qiangsheng said, dismissing their concern.

The brothers exchanged glances, secretly planning to deal with Gao Qiangsheng later. But for now, they continued their meal, drinking and toasting each other, enjoying the reunion. The atmosphere was lively, and Gao Qiangsheng, unaware of their betrayal, drank happily alongside them.

As the night went on, Gao Qiangsheng became more and more intoxicated. His strength, once formidable, had been weakened by years of imprisonment. He hadn’t drunk in so long that the alcohol hit him harder than expected.

At one point, Gao Qiangsheng stumbled and fell onto the dining table with a heavy thud.

“Brother, are you okay?” the second brother asked as he rushed to help him up. But behind his concern was treachery.

With a swift motion, he plunged a dagger into Gao Qiangsheng’s back.

The pain snapped Gao Qiangsheng out of his drunken haze, but it was too late. Stunned and confused, he managed to react instinctively, swinging back in self-defense, but the second brother had already backed away.

Gao Qiangsheng’s eyes were wide with shock. His mind was racing, filled with questions, anger, and betrayal. How could his own brothers, the people he trusted most, do this to him?

His vision blurred as he looked at the faces of the men he once called family.

With his final breath, he choked out one word.

“Why?”
