Chapter 3: Full Body Reconstruction
Finally!
This was one small step for mankind, but one massive leap for Knox Falazar!
Absorb! Absorb right away!
As if responding to his command, the whitish-blue marble with the number 3 on it floated into the air before colliding with his body, instantly assimilating into him.
OOOM!
A surge of power coursed through his mind, strengthening his Mind Strength and Mind Strength Control ever so slightly. But more importantly, it completed the final piece of the fifteen-year-long puzzle.
[Acquired +3 Mind Attribute]
[Mind: 1000]
[You have successfully completed your 1st Main Quest! At least you're not a total letdown!]
[Now, would you like your reward!?]
Knox's eyes gleamed with excitement, his body trembling in anticipation. "Yes!" he answered, nearly leaping in joy—before remembering he couldn't actually leap.
[What do we say when we want something? You know the secret word.]
Knox's broad smile instantly thinned out. "...Are we really doing this?" A vein bulged on his shadowed face. "Now, of all times? Really??"
[There's never not a time to utilize proper manners, Dear Host!]
Knox's expression darkened. "Is there ever a time when I don't imagine punching your stupid digital emoticon face?" he asked, still smiling.
[Hey, I'm the one making the jokes here! ( •̀ - •́ )]
[Don't be rude! Just say it!]
Knox wanted to resist. Oh, how he wanted to resist. But seeing as he truly wanted to get this over with, he swallowed his pride.
"Fine," he grumbled. "Pl… Please, will you give me my reward…?"
[Well, since you're asking so nicely~]
[Also, I have no power that lets me control whether or not you receive the rewards that you've earned~ Teehee~]
"You motherfuc—"
Before Knox could finish his sentence, a long-awaited System Notification rang out. A notification he had been waiting for across hundreds of thousands of years. Across hundreds upon hundreds of lifetimes.
*Ding!!*
[You have received a 'Full Body Reconstruction']
[Would you like to use 'Full Body Reconstruction' right now?] - [Y/N]
Knox selected Yes faster than his mind could even process the question.
Fortunately, just his intent was enough for the Attribute Farming System to proceed with the Full Body Reconstruction.
[Commencing Full Body Reconstruction!]
[In 10 seconds, you will enter a System-induced coma that will leave you out of commission for the better part of a day!]
[10, 9, 8, duh, duh, duh, 3, 2, 1, ready set Go…!]
'What kind of stupid countdown was that—'
Before Knox could finish the thought, his consciousness faded. His breathing slowed, and his heartbeat completely stopped.
But that wouldn't cause a problem, right?
…Right?
—------------
*Huf—!*
When Knox awoke, he found himself in total darkness. There was no light, no sound—just an enclosed space pressing down on him. Judging by the airflow, it wasn't a large space either. If he had functioning legs before, he would've been complaining about the severe lack of legroom.
"Where am I?" he questioned, his golden eyes darting around. "This isn't my room. But if it's not my room, why am I here? I'm a cripple. Except for when I'm carried to the shitter to grace the sewage pipes with my big pipes, I never move places."
More importantly, a faint scent of burnt incense lingered in the air.
Someone was burning incense.
But why?
A realization struck him like lightning.
"Oh, shit… It can't be!"
As a metaphorical lightbulb flashed in Knox's mind, his face paled.
"I'm dead," he whispered, his complexion turning as white as a ghost's. "Well, not technically dead. But I'm sure as hell at my own funeral—lying in a coffin."
It all made sense now. His heart had stopped for nearly an entire day. His body was cold and unresponsive. And in a world where cultivators had little patience for the weak, they must have assumed…
They must have assumed he was gone.
"Wait!" Knox suddenly gasped, shifting inside the coffin. "The Full Body Reconstruction! Was it a success!?"
The moment he moved, he had his answer.
"Of course it was a success!" His voice trembled with excitement. "How else would I be moving around like this!?"
Knox lifted his hands, flexing his fingers.
"I can move my hands!" His joy intensified. "My fingers, my toes, even my nose! I can move it all! I'm no longer a cripple!"
*Bam!*
Overcome with excitement, he accidentally leaned up—only to slam his head against the coffin's lid. The impact caused the lid to slide off, crashing onto the ground with a loud, echoing thud.
Knox blinked, his eyes adjusting to the dimly lit funeral hall. Slowly, he turned his head to the left, where dozens of people sat on velvet leather chairs.
Every single one of them was dressed in black.
The air in the room was thick with sorrow. Though only a few among them were crying, the melancholic atmosphere was undeniable.
All eyes locked onto Knox, wide with pure horror.
A crooked smile stretched across his lips.
"Well, this is awkward," he remarked. "Why are you all staring at me as if you've just seen a ghost? Awed by my handsomeness, perhaps?"
A brief silence followed.
Then—
"The Eldest Young Master is alive! And he's moving! Oh my God! It's a miracle!!"
Knox sighed.
This was going to be fun to explain…
