Chapter 854: 428,2
He desperately twisted his body, trying to shake off the piranhas' entanglement, but no matter how hard he struggled, these piranhas clung to him like stubborn adhesive, showing no sign of releasing him.
No! If this keeps up, I'm definitely going to die here!
David knew this too, and a strong wave of fear surged through his heart.
"Damn, these piranhas are too terrifying, aren't they? They're biting and won't let go!"
"It's only been a few seconds, and the entire tank is dyed red. It won't be long before this guy meets his end here!"
"Death? Death is a bargain for him. In just one more minute, this guy will be gnawed to bones by the piranhas!"
"The previous room had man-eating mutant rats, and now it's flesh-chewing piranhas in this level. My God! What's up with the host? Why are they keen on playing these horrifying things?"
Alicia rewarded the host with 20 rockets - "Host, let's make a deal. Can you sell me a piranha and a mutant rat? I want to keep them as pets."
"My heavens! The tastes of the wealthy are really heavy these days, wanting to keep these flesh-eating creatures as pets!"
Lynn rewarded the host with 10 rockets - "This isn't called heavy taste; it's unique and personal. Host, how about it? Get me a set as well. I'll pay double!"
"The world of the wealthy, I really don't understand!"
"+1, definitely don't understand!"
"+2!"
"+3!"
"..."
As the live audience marveled at the peculiar tastes of the wealthy, the image showed David flipping inside the tank, planning to swim out for the antidote first, take a rest, and then return to the tank for the key.
After that intense struggle, he was already feeling chest pain, a clear sign of impending oxygen deprivation.
"Ugh!!"
However, right as David flipped his body, suddenly everything went black, his entire head tightly enveloped by something.
The thing was slippery, full of mucus, and incredibly suctioning. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't pull it off his head.
David couldn't see it himself, but Jack and another person standing outside the tank could see clearly that his head was wrapped by that giant octopus!
The live audience, witnessing this scene, couldn't help but tense up.
"Oh my! When did that octopus get on this guy's head?"
"I didn't see it either; wasn't it just at the bottom of the tank? How did it suddenly get up?"
"Those two upstairs obviously weren't watching closely; when David turned around, he accidentally stepped on the octopus's tentacle, causing the octopus to quickly swim up and cover his head."
"That's odd; octopuses aren't usually aggressive, right? If stepped on, they'd usually just swim away. Is this octopus poisonous, why would it retaliate?"
"You're talking about regular octopus; this kind of deep-sea octopus doesn't attack unless provoked. But once angered, nothing can escape its grip except death!"
"Does this mean David surely won't survive?"
"Definitely, even without this octopus, just with these many piranhas, David is doomed!"
As the live audience discussed the octopus, they saw on screen the octopus shaking its tentacles, extending them into David's mouth and nose and completely blocking his airways.
"Damn it, this idiot! Couldn't he just bear the pain, grab both the key and antidote, and not aggravate the octopus! Mark's underlings are all a bunch of fools!"
At this point, Jack turned to the man standing beside him: "Tom, you are smaller in stature, go down! Now's the best time; with David there drawing the attention of these creatures, fewer things will attack you, making it easier and safer for you to grab the key. If we don't get the key, we'll all be dead soon!"
Tom listened, looked at Jack, and hesitantly asked, "Boss, will this really work?"
"I'm asking you, do you want to live or die?!"
Jack glared with wide eyes, face twisted with anger, "If you wanna die, just stay here; if you wanna live, get your ass down there!"
"Alright."
After hesitating for a while, Tom finally agreed, his words belied the fear on his face. He couldn't hide it, even his steps were slow and deliberate.
"Are you a man or not, scaredy-cat?!"
Seeing Tom's demeanor, Jack sneered and mocked.
Before Tom could retort, Jack dropped the mocking tone and advised, "Tom, this is a life-or-death moment; there's no time for hesitation. Just close your eyes and jump in."
Upon hearing this, Tom nodded, walked to the tank's entrance, looked at David still struggling in the tank, and with a firm bite of his lip, dove headfirst into the tank.
"My God! This Jack guy is too cunning, isn't he? The host clearly said it was a game with David, yet he's sneaking off to get the key!"
"Exactly, Jack has no sense of rules. Host, quickly deal with these two!"
"Actually, I think Jack and Tom didn't do anything wrong. The host only mentioned playing this game with David, but never said that no one else could enter after David went in."
"That's right, Jack didn't break any rules; he just exploited a loophole in the host's rules. Quite normal, really.
"If that's the case, doesn't it mean the host just handed them two antidotes? That's really unfair!"
"No need to be upset; with Jack's cleverness, if he was in finance, he'd undoubtedly become a giant in the industry. It's a shame he didn't take the righteous path."
As the live feed audience buzzed with discontent over Jack exploiting the game rule loophole, Tom plunged into the tank headfirst.
Because David was already severely bitten by the piranhas, all the piranhas' focus was on David.
Tom cautiously kept to the edge of the tank, circumventing David and those frenzied piranhas, swimming toward the tank's bottom.
"Faster! Quick! No time left!"
Standing outside the tank, Jack saw Tom getting close to the key, a gleam of excitement flashing in his eyes.
Tom secretly breathed a sigh of relief, quickly stretched out his hand, grabbed the key, then curled up and kicked off the tank bottom, darting swiftly toward the exit.
Although Tom hadn't had time to rejoice, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a black shadow darting from the tank's bottom.
"Eel!"
Standing outside the tank, Jack's face froze the moment he saw the black shadow.
The hideous-looking eel was astoundingly fast, approaching Tom in the blink of an eye and biting his arm.
Then, as a faint blue light flickered across the eel's body, Tom convulsed violently like he was having a seizure.
Still aware of the urgency, Tom swung his arm, flinging the eel away, and hurried to the tank's bottom exit.
Swimming past David, Tom noticed David's body quivering slightly, evidently nearing his limit.
Seeing this, Tom's greed arose; he abandoned the thought of swimming out immediately, reaching slowly for the two antidotes tightly clenched in David's hand.
"Damn, he's way too greedy, chased by an eel but still thinking about grabbing the antidotes."
"Yeah, at this point, shouldn't he be running faster, what's he waiting for?"
"Just watch, once the piranhas finish eating David, they'll surely turn to attack him!"
"Greed's clouding his judgment; there's no way he can make the right decision now, even if Jack warns him, it won't change his actions."
