Chapter 11: Chapter 11
Hye-ja rushed into the house with Ju-Hoon, quickly warm some water to wipe the baby. As she uncovered the infant, she was taken aback by the child's unusual appearance.
The baby's eyes were a piercing green, a color Hye-ja had never seen before in a human. Her skin was a deep, dark brown, almost like silver, and it seemed to glow in the light.
Hye-ja's eyes widened in wonder as she gently cleaned the baby, checking to make sure she had all her limbs and body parts.
As she worked, Hye-ja remembered the stories her mother used to tell her about the diversity of human life. She smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. Despite the baby's unusual appearance, she was still a human being, deserving of love and care.
Hye-ja began to call the baby Masika, the name Nzanzu had whispered as she gave birth. She searched for fresh soya beans to make a milk substitute for the baby, knowing that Masika would soon be hungry.
Ju-Hoon stood beside his grandmother, his eyes fixed on Masika's face. He couldn't tear his gaze away from the baby's striking features, and he felt a sense of wonder wash over him.
He continued to gaze at Masika, his eyes filled with curiosity, Hye-ja smiled, seeing the instant bond between her grandson and the baby. Ju-Hoon began to touch Masika's tiny hands and feet, and Hye-ja could see the love and affection growing in his heart.
But as much as Hye-ja wanted to revel in this tender moment, she knew she had a responsibility to protect Masika. As the village leader and midwife, she was respected and trusted by everyone in the community.
Hye-ja knew that she had to inform the villagers about Masika's presence, so that they could all work together to keep her safe. She decided to call a meeting with all 11 houses, to share the story of Masika's birth and her unusual appearance.
Meanwhile, Ju-Hoon was over the moon with excitement, having finally gained a sibling. He had always felt lonely, being the only child in the village, but now he had someone to share his adventures with.
As Hye-ja began to make preparations for the village meeting, Ju-Hoon couldn't stop smiling, his eyes shining with happiness as he gazed at Masika. "Halmoni, I have a sister!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with joy.
