Betrayed By My Ex-Husband, Claimed By His Half-Brother

Chapter 20: Burst her head open?

Before Henry could say anything else, Benjamin raised his hand and pointed a finger at his wife and son. He said to them sternly, "Now you two listen to me carefully. While I admit that my frivolous past has indeed caused some troubles, we need to think about what can be done instead of crying over spilt milk."

Benjamin let out a soft sigh and then said in a low voice, "Allegra, I will release the information that our eldest son was sent for adoption because one of our relatives couldn't have a child. However, now that this relative has passed away in an accident, we brought Lucas back home. Do not let anyone notice anything amiss; this is the question about the integrity and reputation of the Holman family."

"Reputation? Do we have one?" Allegra barked. She was furious to the point that she laughed. "You want me to give this bastard the same authority as my biological son? Ben, have you lost your mind?"

"If he is a bastard, then what am I?" Benjamin questioned with a snap.

"You can choose whichever title you would like to put on your head," sneered Allegra. Now that the situation was like this, she truly could not stand it anymore. She had been a diligent and dutiful wife to her husband all her life, even though she knew Benjamin had an illegitimate son, but she turned a blind eye to it as long as the interests of her son were not harmed.

She even let Benjamin arrange the marriage of their son, even though she didn't like Mia.

But this was where she drew the line.

"Then are you going to let our rivals take advantage of this fantastic opportunity?" Benjamin all but snarled. "Do you wish to live a life where others would look down on you? Allegra, oh Allegra. Think twice if this piece of information is leaked, your reputation will be no worse than mine. In fact," Benjamin curled his lips cruelly. "I will still get away scout-free; the one who would be humiliated would be you. Because you, as a woman, couldn't keep your man in your palms."

Mia closed her eyes. She wasn't fond of Allegra; the woman was way too arrogant than she was supposed to be but she had to admit that Benjamin's move was way too cruel. If there was something Allegra cared for more than her son, it was her reputation, and Benjamin's words were nothing less than a complete knockout.

As she opened her eyes, Mia saw Allegra looking ashen as she glared at Benjamin, but as someone who would rather die than let anyone step on her head, she gritted her teeth and spat, "Fine."

"Mom!" Henry turned to look at his mother with a scandalised expression.

"Bah!" Allegra glared at Henry with a hint of reproach in her eyes. "Don't yell at me, Henry. If you had listened to your father, then we wouldn't have to see this either."

She then turned to look at Mia and glared at her as well, as if it were Mia's fault that she was getting Lucas as her ready-made son.

Of course, Mia knew better than to quibble with a woman betrayed in marriage. She lowered her head with an innocent gaze and didn't dare to face off with Allegra.

It was a good move because the woman only snorted and didn't drag Mia into a battle that had nothing to do with her.

However, just because Allegra didn't pull her in the tussle, it did not mean that Mia was completely safe.

Henry, dissatisfied with the actions of his father, spoke in an angry voice, "Just because I divorced Mia, you actually did such a thing to me? I am your son and who is she?"

"That's right, who is she?" Lucas turned to look at Mia, who stiffened and met his predatorial gaze with a panic-stricken look of hers. "I don't recall you telling me about her, Dad."

"She is Henry's ex-wife, Mia Wills," Benjamin introduced Mia to Lucas with a soft smile on his lips. "And she is also the daughter of my good friend."

"A daughter of a criminal, you mean," interjected Henry testily.

Mia, who had been standing quietly in the corner, finally found her voice. She had no desire to intervene in the quarrel of the Holman family but she just couldn't stand quietly in a corner when her dad was being insulted.

She turned to look at Henry and said in a fierce voice, "If my dad is a criminal, what are you? There is no evidence against him, but I have plenty against you. Do you want me to show it?"

"Mia—"

"HENRY!"

Benjamin raised his voice and turned to look at his son. He was disappointed in Henry through and through, and the fact that he had actually drugged a woman for revenge made him, if possible, even more disappointed with his son.

He looked at Henry, who seemed disgruntled, and said in a cold voice, "I was the one who decided to bring Lucas back; if you have something to say about it, say it to me. Do not raise your voice at Mia; if you are a man, then act like one."

"It is funny coming from you."

"And it will be even funnier if I take back all the power I have handed to you," Benjamin slapped back silkily.

Henry clenched his fists tightly, but he held his tongue. Indeed, he hadn't taken over the Holman Corporation completely. He was worried that if his father interfered, it would be even harder for him to take control of the company.

But this humiliation!

He didn't dare to glare at his father and could only turn his head to blame Mia. What was so good about her that his father didn't even care about him?

"Are you trying to see if your glare is harsh enough to burst her head open, dear brother?" Lucas remarked with a calm look in his eyes. He glanced at Henry and then turned to look at Mia, whose face was turning paler with each second as he continued to look at her. "Don't you think it will be a shame for such a beautiful face?"
