Chapter 284

“Turn around, Jiwoo.” But I couldn’t turn around. I had to watch the brutal and unilateral assault in shock. It seemed like he was going to kill someone. “Stop, stop it… he’s going to die…” With my legs trembling in fear, I almost fell as I ran to grab Ozworld. “Stop it!” Then Ozworld, who had been beating the man with an expressionless face, finally stopped. Terrifying. His final act of crushing Lee Jonghyup’s hand without even breaking a sweat was horrifying. But then I realized that if it weren’t for Ozworld, I might have been the one getting hurt, and my feelings were conflicted. Still… Even if he was trying to help me, this was too much. I couldn’t even ask him why he did it. I had no idea how to react in this situation, so I just looked around. Luckily, there was no one else around. There were no security cameras either. Even though Ozworld scared me, I still considered him a friend. “Let’s run away.” So I grabbed his hand and tried to leave, but he wouldn’t budge. “What are you doing?” I turned back in mild frustration and saw something unexpected. Ozworld was smiling at me. “Are you worried about me?” His reaction was so out of place that I was momentarily stunned. I quickly regained my composure and urged him. “Now is not the time for this… Let’s go before someone comes! You’re going to get into big trouble.” Seeing my impatience, Ozworld pulled me into a hug and rubbed his cheek against my head. “I’m happy because you’re worried about me.” Did he get hit on the head? I pushed Ozworld away and yelled. “Is this really the time? I’m trying to run away with you as an accomplice…!” Ozworld covered his face with one hand and lowered his head, laughing. His genuine enjoyment made me shiver. “Did you really get hit on the head? Why are you acting like this?” He lifted his head, still with a broad smile. Under the streetlight, his face was so beautiful that if I didn’t know the situation, I would have thought it was a scene from a teen movie. “It’s okay, Jiwoo,” Ozworld said and then made a phone call. “Hyung, can you clear the people in the park? I’ll send you the location.” Then he looked at me as if asking if that was enough. I felt like an idiot for worrying that he might become a criminal. I also felt a strange sense of distance. It made me realize how different Ozworld’s world was from mine. “Let’s go.” Ozworld grabbed my hand again. He seemed completely oblivious to the clear distance I felt between us. I twisted my gripped hand in discomfort. “Let go of this.” “I don’t want to.” Ozworld rejected my request so lightly that it was almost absurd and gently swung our hands as he led me out of the park. Arrogant, selfish, and reckless. If I said this about him, no one would believe me. Everyone thought this damn guy was a model student. “Where are we going?” “To my house.” “Why?” “I want to take a shower.” Looking at Ozworld again, I saw that his thick chest, which didn’t belong to a high schooler, was wet and clearly outlined with each movement. It wasn’t from the fight earlier. It was obviously from sweating while looking for me. “I’m not a kid. Why were you looking for me so hard…?” “I told you, I was worried. And it turned out there was something to worry about.” I had no response to that. Ozworld suddenly stopped walking and looked back at me under the streetlight. “So don’t ignore my calls from now on.” “…We’re not even dating, so don’t talk like you’re my boyfriend.” Ozworld laughed tiredly and rubbed his eyes. “It’s difficult. I can’t do anything openly because of so many restrictions.” “…” “At least answer my calls. Okay?” Sometimes, I didn’t understand the Korean language he used. Maybe he was still a foreigner at heart. I frowned and grabbed his hand. “Don’t use your hands recklessly. You could get infected.” His hand was a mess, though I couldn’t tell if it was from hitting or being hit. My mind was still restless, but I was hungry and confused. Being with Ozworld, who seemed even more out of his mind, might be better than being alone or going home. “Let’s go to your place.” I wondered if Mr. Holton would be there today. I hoped he would realize how crazy his son was and give him a good smack. * * *I was worried about whether any of Lee Jonghyup’s friends had died. But the culprit was drinking a cool bottle of water after taking a refreshing shower. It made me suddenly feel a bit resentful. “Aren’t you worried?” “About what?” Ozworld blinked as if he really didn’t know what I was talking about and then held out his hand to me. “My waterproof bandage fell off in the shower. Can you help me put a new one on?” “Don’t you have hands? Do it yourself.” “I’m not good at this. You know that.” He only acted like a young master at times like this. Ozworld lay down on the table, watching me intently as I put the bandage on him, making it as painful as possible on purpose. His gaze was so intense I couldn’t ignore it. “What are you looking at?” “It suits you.” I stayed silent, unsure of what he meant, and he looked down. “My clothes.” Only then did I realize that I was wearing clothes from Ozworld. My face turned bright red with the sudden embarrassment. “I didn’t have anything to wear, so I borrowed them. I’ll wash them and return them.” “Keep wearing them. They look good on you… Ah, but wear the top with the pants.” The way he said it made me feel like a pervert walking around half-naked. “The top is long enough.” “Aren’t you hungry?” Ignoring my grumbling, Ozworld prepared a simple meal. Though he had housekeepers, he often did these small chores himself when spending time with me. He was skilled now, but he had made many mistakes before. I once thought he was really a pampered young master when I saw he couldn’t even cook instant noodles. “Eat.” Ozworld sat across from me after setting the table. I picked up my spoon naturally and asked him. “Are your parents coming home late?” “No. They went back to LA today.” I nodded silently. Suddenly, I felt awkward. “What about those guys from earlier? Are they okay?” “They’re fine.” Not being a great conversationalist, I couldn’t think of anything else to say. What should I talk about now? Then I remembered something Mr. Holton had said yesterday. “Did you really stay because of me?” Ozworld smiled without saying anything. That meant yes. “…Why did you do that?” “Because I want to live with you.” His blunt and straightforward answer made me dizzy. He means he wants to live with me in Korea. Yeah, I’m sure he means it like that. I decided not to dig deeper into that topic. Feeling full, I put down my spoon, and Ozworld brought out my favorite snacks and pointed to a room. “Want to watch a movie?” There was a room with a screen. “Sure.” Talking was awkward, and it wasn’t even 8 PM yet, so I couldn’t go home. I welcomed the suggestion. We sat on the soft sofa and started the movie. Wait, isn’t this movie rated 15? It was supposed to be about the Grim Reaper’s experience in the human world, right? I couldn’t focus, my eyes darting everywhere. I was more aware of Ozworld sitting just a handbreadth away than ever. My brain came up with a solution to solve this crisis. Let’s pretend to be asleep…! It was really a genius idea. I was already leaning back on the sofa, so I just had to close my eyes. While doing my best to pretend to sleep, I didn’t even think that it might create a new problem. Since I was genuinely tired from the day, sleepiness soon followed. A low voice reached my drowsy mind. “Are you asleep?” Yes, so stop talking. Ozworld seemed to hear my thoughts and didn’t speak again. Instead, he gently rested my head on his shoulder. His touch, as he fixed my hair, was too ticklish. “The movie is boring.” Thankfully, I could sense Ozworld turning his head back toward the screen. “The curiosity about the feeling of love is so cliche.” “…” “And it’s strange for a transcendent being to be swayed by just one human woman.” “…” “With just a single kiss…” Ozworld suddenly stopped talking to himself. Then, he let out a soft chuckle. It was as if something had come to his mind. “Well… I suppose one could be curious.” For some reason, his critique seemed revised. “Jiwoo.” “…” “Of all the places I’ve lived, this one is my favorite so far.” As I found his words rather strange, Ozworld turned his head back toward me. He then kissed my forehead. “Good night.” At that moment, a deep slumber overtook me.
