Bleach: White Blossoms

Chapter 33: 33

"Okay, then let's go report this," Rukia said, sliding her Zanpakutō back into its sheath.

"Report to the Gotei 13, right?" Yurei asked, her tone hopeful but knowing better.

"No," Rukia replied, already turning toward the direction of the Urahara Shop. "We're going to Urahara's place."

Yurei sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. "Seriously? That guy always makes things more complicated than they need to be. He'll probably just smile that smug smile and give us cryptic advice again."

Rukia glanced over her shoulder with a small smirk. "Well, you'll fit right in, then. You're not exactly straightforward yourself."

Yurei let out a soft laugh, falling into step beside her. "Fair enough. But don't blame me if I raid his candy stash as compensation for having to deal with him."

The two made their way through the bustling streets of Karakura Town, their presence unnoticed by the humans going about their daily lives. As they walked, the lingering tension from their encounter with Shinji began to ease, replaced by the familiar rhythm of their banter.

When they finally reached the Urahara Shop, Yurei paused at the door, tilting her head as she sensed the faint hum of spiritual energy within. "Looks like he's already expecting us."

Rukia nodded, pushing open the door. "Of course he is. He probably knew we'd be coming before we did."

As they stepped inside, Urahara Kisuke greeted them with his signature fan hiding his grin. "Ah, my favorite troublemakers. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

Yurei crossed her arms, giving him a flat look. "Let's skip the games, Urahara. We just had an encounter with a Visored named Shinji Hirako. He seems to have taken an interest in Ichigo."

Urahara's grin widened slightly, his eyes gleaming with an unreadable mix of amusement and concern. "Oh? Shinji's made his move already, has he? Interesting timing."

Rukia frowned. "You knew about this, didn't you?"

"Of course," Urahara said, snapping his fan shut. "But knowing and intervening are two very different things. Shinji and the Visored aren't enemies. At least, not yet. Their methods might be... unconventional, but they're not entirely wrong about Ichigo."

Yurei sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Great. Another cryptic answer. So what do you suggest we do?"

Urahara leaned forward, his tone growing serious. "For now? Watch, listen, and be ready. The Visored are walking a tightrope, just like Ichigo. But if they fall... make sure you're there to catch him before he does."

Before Yurei or Rukia could respond, a familiar, sultry voice cut through the room. "Don't worry about that, Kisuke. My little Yurei will be just fine."

Yoruichi Shihōin appeared as if she had materialized from the shadows, leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, her signature smirk firmly in place. Her golden eyes gleamed with a mix of pride and mischief as she regarded Yurei.

Yurei blinked, a mix of surprise and amusement crossing her features. "Yoruichi... do you always have to make an entrance like that?"

"Of course," Yoruichi replied with a playful shrug. "It's part of my charm. Besides, it's good to keep you on your toes. Can't let you get too comfortable, now, can I?"

Rukia looked between the two, her brow furrowing slightly before she let out a soft sigh. "I don't know if I should be happy that you and Yurei get along so well... or if I should be deeply concerned for the rest of us."

Yoruichi grinned, a mischievous glint in her golden eyes, and without missing a beat, she draped an arm casually around Yurei's shoulders. "Oh, don't worry, Rukia. We're a fantastic team. Aren't we, Yurei?"

Yurei raised an eyebrow, glancing at Yoruichi out of the corner of her eye, though a faint smile tugged at her lips. "Fantastic might be stretching it. You're more like an older sister who enjoys tormenting me whenever the opportunity arises."

"Tormenting? That's harsh," Yoruichi replied with a mock-pout before her grin returned. "I prefer to think of it as tough love. How else would I have shaped you into the amazing fighter you are now?"

Rukia crossed her arms, watching the two with a mix of exasperation and amusement. "If this is what you call tough love, then I think I'll pass on getting too close to either of you. The last thing I need is to be dragged into one of your chaotic adventures."

"Chaotic?" Yoruichi repeated, feigning offense. "Rukia, I'll have you know our 'adventures' are highly coordinated—mostly. And besides, isn't a little chaos good for keeping life interesting?"

Yurei chuckled softly, shaking her head. "That's one way to look at it. Though, Rukia might have a point. The last time we 'coordinated' anything, it ended with a section of Soul Society being rebuilt."

"Details," Yoruichi said with a wave of her hand. "What's a little collateral damage when the results speak for themselves?"

Rukia groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I can't tell if I should admire your confidence or run for the hills."

"You'll get used to it," Yurei said with a reassuring smile, gently shrugging off Yoruichi's arm. "But for now, let's focus on what we came here for. Chaos can wait."

Yoruichi gave a mock sigh, pretending to be hurt. "Fine, fine. Business before fun, as always. You're no fun, Yurei."

"Someone has to be the responsible one," Yurei shot back playfully.

Rukia rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a small smile. "Well, at least now I know where you get it from, Yurei."

Yurei returned the smile, her tone shifting to a more focused one as she straightened up. "Alright, enough banter. We have work to do."

She glanced toward Yoruichi, who raised an eyebrow, already anticipating where this was going. "Why don't you and I scout the area, see if there are more of the Visored lurking nearby? Something tells me this isn't just a random appearance," Yurei suggested.

Yoruichi nodded thoughtfully. "Makes sense. If Shinji's hanging around, it's likely others from their group aren't too far behind. They're cautious, but not invisible. We might catch a trail if we're quick."

Yurei turned her attention to Rukia, her expression softening slightly. "Rukia, you stay here and wait for Ichigo. I have a strong feeling he'll show up soon—he always seems to have a knack for walking into the middle of things."

Rukia crossed her arms, her brow furrowed. "Are you sure? I can handle scouting too, you know. I'm not just going to sit around and wait for him."

Yoruichi chimed in with a smirk. "Trust me, Rukia, you're going to have your hands full when Ichigo shows up. He'll need someone level-headed to keep him from charging in recklessly. That's not exactly Yurei's specialty."

"Hey," Yurei interjected with a mock frown. "I'm perfectly capable of being level-headed when the situation calls for it."

Rukia raised an eyebrow but eventually sighed, relenting. "Fine, I'll stay. But only because you're probably right about Ichigo showing up. Someone has to make sure he doesn't make things worse."

"Exactly," Yoruichi said with a grin, giving Rukia a playful pat on the shoulder. "You've got the harder job, really. Babysitting Ichigo isn't easy."

Yurei chuckled softly. "Good luck, Rukia. We'll be back soon. Hopefully with some useful information—or at least fewer questions."

Without waiting for further debate, Yoruichi and Yurei exchanged a glance and disappeared in a blur of shunpo, leaving Rukia standing in the quiet shop. She sighed, shaking her head as she turned toward the direction of the training area.

"Great. Babysitting duty. Again," Rukia muttered to herself, though there was a hint of fondness in her tone.

As Yoruichi and Yurei walked out of Urahara's shop, the late afternoon sunlight bathed the streets in a golden glow. The two moved side by side, their steps light yet purposeful, an unspoken camaraderie between them.

"So," Yoruichi began, her tone teasing, "what exactly are you doing here in the Living World? Don't tell me Soi Fon sent you for a vacation."

Yurei chuckled softly, brushing a strand of silvery hair from her face. "Vacation? Not quite. Soi Fon thought it would be a brilliant idea to assign me to Rukia as punishment. Something about covering all of Soul Society with my Bankai and causing 'unnecessary disruption.' Apparently, I need to 'learn restraint.' So here I am—a former substitute teacher, now babysitter and Rukia's subordinate."

Yoruichi's laughter rang out, rich and unrestrained. "You? A subordinate? Oh, that's priceless. I bet Soi Fon's loving this."

"Probably," Yurei admitted with a shrug, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "But honestly, I don't mind. It's been a while since I've spent time in the Living World. And Rukia's sharp—she might actually learn something from me. Assuming she can endure what she calls my 'hellish' training."

Yoruichi smirked, leaning in slightly. "Hellish? You mean the same kind of training you endured under me?"

Yurei raised an eyebrow. "Don't remind me. At least I never forced Rukia to run uphill with weights while dodging live fire."

"Yet," Yoruichi teased, her golden eyes gleaming with amusement. "But knowing you, it's only a matter of time."

The two shared a laugh, the tension of their mission momentarily forgotten. Their light banter was interrupted when Yoruichi tilted her head slightly, her expression turning curious. "So, substitute teacher, huh? Let me guess—you taught those kids something completely impractical. Was it functional analysis?"

Yurei groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Don't remind me. I think I broke their brains. Ichigo looked ready to quit halfway through, and I'm pretty sure Rukia was only pretending to take notes."

Yoruichi burst into laughter, her voice echoing through the quiet streets. "Oh, Yurei, never change."

Despite the levity of their conversation, Yurei's eyes remained sharp, scanning their surroundings for any sign of reiatsu. Her hand rested lightly on her Zanpakutō, and her tone grew serious. "By the way, what are you really doing here, Yoruichi? Not just passing through, I'm guessing."

Yoruichi's grin softened, replaced by a thoughtful expression. "Let's just say I keep tabs on certain things—and certain people. When I heard about the Visored making moves and Ichigo being tied up in it, I figured I'd take a look myself."

Yurei nodded, her gaze distant. "Makes sense. If the Visored are gathering here, there's a reason. And if Ichigo's involved, it could escalate fast."

"Which means we scout first," Yoruichi said, matching Yurei's serious tone. "If there's trouble brewing, we need to be ready."

The two moved silently through the streets, their senses tuned to the faintest fluctuations of reiatsu. Despite the weight of their mission, there was an ease between them, a quiet rhythm to their steps. The golden light of the setting sun cast long shadows as they vanished into the horizon, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
