Blood Moon Hovering in the Sky

Chapter 2: Neighbour!

On the third day, Ethan Lewis woke up at ten. After washing and dressing up carefully, he took a deep breath, looking at himself in the mirror. He would see his once perfect goddess, so he had to be in high spirits.

When he opened the door, as expected, he saw Ryan Grant cooking. Suppressing the fear in his heart, Ethan walked out of the room. At this moment, the murderous look from his mother fell right on him.

Thump!

Ethan's heart jumped fiercely. He forced himself to calm down and said, "Mom, I'm going out. My classmate asked me to gather..."

"Gather? What gather? You haven't been to school for three years, where did you get classmates?"

His mother's eyes didn't blink, staring at him like a puppet, while the cleaver in her hand started chopping violently. The muffled sound was like a death knell, pounding on Ethan's heart, making it involuntarily tighten.

The potato on the cutting board had long been chopped into pieces, even when she cut her finger, Ryan showed no reaction. Blood mixed with the potatoes, revealing a strange scene.

"It's my high school classmate. Today is our graduation, so they called me. Mom, your finger is bleeding." Ethan swallowed hard, saying with fear.

At this time, Ryan stopped. She looked at her almost severed finger and showed no reaction. Instead, she tore off the nearly broken finger and chewed it hard in her mouth without any expression, letting the blood drip from the corner of her mouth.

Seeing this scene, Ethan felt extremely uncomfortable but endured the nausea without moving.

"Come back early!"

Ryan still stared at Ethan fiercely, but her tone suddenly softened. These two contradictory expressions appeared on the same face.

Ethan nodded hurriedly. Although his mother said to come back early, that look intended to chop him into pieces.

He ran out of the house and slammed the door before taking a breath of relief.

He swore that this was not his mother. How could someone eat their finger when injured?

Moreover, his previous mother couldn't bear even a slight bump.

The fear in his heart wouldn't subside at all. If he could, he would escape from home. But for some reason, no matter where he went or whether he told his mother, she could always find him easily.

After leaving the building and smelling the fresh air outside, Ethan's fear subsided a little. However, at the same time, an uncomfortable aura slowly surrounded him.

"It's this feeling!"

Every time he went out, he would feel such an aura. Though odorless, it made him very uncomfortable, as if the world was rejecting him everywhere.

But this time, this aura became much lighter, not suffocating him the moment he stepped out.

Walking on the street, Ethan looked around. This road had changed a lot over the past three years. There were more surveillance cameras and street lamps, and the road had widened. It used to be a one-way street but now has turned into a two-way street.

It gave him a sense of isolation from the world.

The street lamps didn't turn into giant snakes pouncing at him, but despite that, when enveloped by this aura, he could still see the world slightly distorted in front of his eyes, though not obviously. Nevertheless, he could walk normally.

"Ethan, you went out?"

By the roadside, Margaret, who was running a stall, exclaimed in surprise as if seeing something extraordinary.

Ethan looked over. She was their neighbor, separated by only a wall. Her husband passed away early, and she had a daughter named Emily studying in middle school. Therefore, she dared not go far for work and could only make a living by running a small stall.

Previously, their family had a good relationship with Margaret. But since Ethan got hospitalized, Ryan rejected all goodwill from neighbors. Once, she even chased someone with a knife into their home. Luckily, no one got hurt; otherwise, their family would have fallen apart.

Because of this, all neighbors kept a distance from them. In these three years, Ethan hadn't seen anyone visiting their home.

"Hello, Aunt Margaret!"

Ethan greeted politely.

"Ho ho, Ethan, you are still the same as before. Is your illness better?" Aunt Margaret squinted her eyes and laughed.

"Not yet, but much better. Isn't Emily back from school yet, Aunt?"

Ethan seemed not to notice the abnormality in Aunt Margaret's eyes and continued to greet with a smile.

"No, Ethan, come here. I have a secret to tell you." Aunt Margaret suddenly waved her hand, her expression weird.

Ethan walked over in confusion, lowered his head, and asked softly, "What secret, Aunt?"

Aunt Margaret looked mysterious, putting one hand into her basket and saying, "Do you know that your mom is a bit abnormal? I heard that many times she goes out early and comes back with a garbage bag dripping with blood. Very scary."

"Do you know where she went?"

Ethan was puzzled. He didn't know. He asked, "Where did she go?"

Bang!

Ethan quickly retreated. In that instant, a hammer smashed heavily onto the ground, creating a big hole in the cement. He didn't know how Aunt Margaret managed to have such strength, but because of this, he felt a bit relieved.

It seemed that the malice towards him wasn't that great anymore. Though it was still unsafe to go out this time, those dangers were visible. Unlike before, all scenes in front of him were twisted, and he didn't even know where the attacks came from.

However, Aunt Margaret was surprised: "You react so fast?"

Ethan sneered: "Aunt Margaret, do you think I don't know what you're doing?"

"I've been lying in the hospital for a year and stayed at home for two years. During these two years, although I didn't go out, do you think I didn't see what you were doing?"

Since he knew that the world was full of malice towards him, he had been watching outside all along for his safety.

While observing the surrounding world, Aunt Margaret was the first person he saw.

Every time, Aunt Margaret would put two hammers in her two baskets before going out and nothing else. No one would buy anything from her. After going out, she would wait by the roadside, her eyes always fixed on him.

It was as if she was waiting for an opportunity, wishing to kill him.

This wait lasted for two years.

Unfortunately, Ethan never went out, so Aunt Margaret never got a chance. Plus, once his mother chased a neighbor with a knife all the way home. No one would dare harm him.

He didn't know if his mother's actions were protecting him.

Of course, the biggest danger to him was still from his mother.

Others needed opportunities to kill him, but did his mother need any opportunity to kill him?

"Ho ho, you've become smarter, but... does it help?" Failing in the assassination attempt, Aunt Margaret didn't lose heart. She slowly packed her hammer and walked towards her home. Before leaving, she cast a weird glance at Ethan and said eerily,

"Ethan, try to live well. That will be very interesting!"
