Chapter 7: chapter 7

A swirling portal appeared in the middle of a dimly lit bar, and Izuku stepped out, gripping his shoulder, his face twisted in pain.

"Midoriya, are you alright?" Kurogiri asked, walking over to him and offering a hand to help him onto one of the barstools.

"I'll be fine. Just need some antibiotics," Izuku muttered, his voice strained.

Before he could say another word, Kurogiri was already gathering supplies. He pulled out gauze, ointment, scissors, and bandages, setting them on the counter with practiced efficiency.

Handing Izuku a glass of water and some antibiotics, Kurogiri began patching him up. When he cut Izuku's shirt away, the fabric fell to the floor, revealing numerous burn scars—some fresher than others.

From his seat at the bar, Shigaraki glanced at the scars, his expression unreadable. He looked away a moment later, scratching at his neck with growing agitation.

Once Izuku was patched up, he gave Kurogiri a small nod of gratitude before silently walking through the door behind the bar.

"Are you sure he can do it?" Shigaraki asked, his voice scratchy and laced with skepticism. "I still don't think he's worth it. The only useful thing about him is his books."

Bzzt. The television in the bar flickered to life. Large purple letters reading AUDIO ONLY appeared on the screen.

A deep, static-filled voice echoed through the bar. "I believe he will surprise us. He will be very useful to your team."

"But Master," Shigaraki growled, scratching harder at his already raw skin, "what use is a kid who can't kill? Just give me a Nomu, and I'll kill All Might myself!"

"Be patient, Tomura." The voice on the TV turned darker, almost sinister. "I have plans for the Nomu, and I believe Midoriya will pull through. When he does, I have the perfect ability—and the perfect test—for him."

Pushing through the door, Izuku walked down a dimly lit hallway. He passed several closed doors before stopping at one. Slowly, he turned the knob and stepped inside.

The room was small—about half the size of his old bedroom. Inside, there was a bed, a bookshelf, a desk, and a few boxes stacked in the corner, most filled with his journals.

Brushing past the boxes, he collapsed onto the bed, leaning against the wall. He stared off into the distance, exhaustion settling in.

I'm tired… I want my life to go back to how it was… but that will never happen. Not now that she's gone. And I just paralyzed a man. Would she be mad at me? But everything I do is for her…

His eyelids grew heavy, and soon, he drifted into sleep.

A few days passed, and Izuku's shoulder had begun to heal. The pain lingered, but like always, he ignored it.

Walking out into the bar, he immediately noticed that Shigaraki wasn't sitting in his usual spot. Turning to Kurogiri, who was cleaning glasses behind the counter, Izuku asked,

"Where's Tomura? He's usually here. To be honest, I've never actually seen him leave."

"He went out for a bit," Kurogiri replied, placing a glass aside. "Said he was bored. He'll be back soon. How can I assist you, Midoriya?"

Izuku hesitated for a moment before responding. "I want you to take me to him. I think I'm ready."

Kurogiri studied Izuku's expression before giving a small nod. A dark portal swirled open in front of them.

Izuku took a step forward, but his feet stopped just short of entering. His heart pounded in his chest, and his hands started to shake.

"Would you like me to accompany you, Midoriya?" Kurogiri asked, his voice steady.

Izuku stood there, contemplating, before shaking his head. "No. I need to do this myself."

Taking a deep breath, he stepped through the portal.

On the other side, Izuku found himself inside a dimly lit room. In the center, Sato Nakamura sat tied to a chair—not to restrain him, but simply to keep his, and malnourished body upright.

His cheeks were sunken, his lips cracked.

"Haha… well, look who it is," Nakamura rasped, his voice hoarse and raw. "It's the weakling."

Izuku stared at him. A wave of nausea rolled through him, but at the same time… he felt something else. A quiet, sickening satisfaction.

"Y-You…" Izuku stammered at first, then let out a slow breath. "You call me weak, yet I'm the one standing. And here you are, no longer able to do so."

Nakamura glared at him. "That may be true, but you'll never win, villain."

A small smile almost appeared on Izuku's lips. "Villain? What's your definition of that word? Because from where I'm standing—that would be you."

He took a step closer.

Pulling a pocket knife from his pocket, he pressed the blade against Nakamura's throat.

Nakamura coughed out a dry laugh, his body trembling. "We've done this song and dance before, kid. And you couldn't do it. What makes you think you can do it now?" He smirked. "And besides, who cares if I let someone die? I'm a hero."

Izuku's once trembling hands slowly began to steady.

"You're right," he said, voice eerily even. "Last time, I hesitated. This time, I won't."

Nakamura laughed hysterically. But as his laughter echoed through the room, it quickly turned to choking. Blood gurgled in his throat.

Izuku had cut him.

The moment the blade sliced through, blood poured down Nakamura's neck. Izuku's grip on the knife slackened, and it clattered to the floor.

He took a shaky step back, staring at his hands as they began to tremble again. His vision blurred.

When he looked back up, Nakamura was already dead.

Izuku's breath quickened, coming in sharp gasps. His chest tightened, and his knees buckled beneath him as a wave of panic overtook his body.

His first kill.

The realization sent his mind into chaos. His hands wouldn't stop shaking. His vision tunneled.

Then, behind him, a portal appeared, and Kurogiri stepped through. Without a word, he knelt beside Izuku and held out a glass of water.

"Drink," Kurogiri instructed calmly. "Now breathe. It's done. You did the right thing. Now rest."

Izuku could barely register his words. But after a moment, his body finally gave in to exhaustion.

As he passed out in Kurogiri's arms.
