Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Taehyung sighed a heavy breath, all the memories of past wandered in his mind like a movie scenes, as if everything happened just yesterday. "Few months later I got adopted too." He said.
"Have you ever try to find Jimin?" Asked Kyungmi in a soft voice.
Taehyung shook his head in denial. "Soon as I stepped in this new life I was loved and cherished by my parents, they provided me everything, a kid like me could only imagine and I began to live my life. I thought Jimin might be living the same life." He said, deep guilt build inside, he felt ashamed of being greedy and selfish.
Kyungmi wanted to comfort him but hesitated. Instead, she sat quietly beside Taehyung, giving him the space to share his pain.
"And one day I saw Jimin on TV, the entire world accused him as a psychopath killer, but I knew Jimin could never kill anyone." Taehyung said, he shifted his gaze down to the floor, feeling the weight of the pain, Jimin had always carried.
"I was traumatized but back then my parents stopped me to do anything stupid, and I left no choice besides to watch him on tv like any stranger and pretend to be okay, because my parents asked me to do so." He explained. "Dad told me that he had a business and a social reputation and as their son I shouldn't spoiled it, and I chose to be their son, I was greedy and selfish."
Kyungmi caressed Taehyung's shoulder, "You were just a kid back then." She said, but her words remained unaffected on him.
Taehyung now drowned into the depth of his guilt, the anger pulled him even deeper. "I was sixteen." He said, gritting his teeth, "Entire country knew about his address, he was on tv, his own parents accused him with the murder, and police treated him like a criminal and I just sat and watched him on tv." His voice cracked, "I could go to him and tell that I believe on you, I could comfort my brother, but I chose to live my life like an obedient kid." He said, each word explaining his own pain.
"No, Taehyung, you were young and helpless, you didn't had any access on your life." Kyungmi replied in a soft voice. "You didn't know what to do, you were just being a good son to your parents." She said, her eyes desperately searching a sense of comfort on Taehyung's face, but he looked annoyed by himself, his eyes spilling fire for him and it ached her heart.
The silence between them grew intense, interrupted only by the crackling sound of the wooden pieces burning in fire. Kyungmi reached for his hand, her touch gentle but firm, as she looked at his handsome face. "It's not wrong to live Taehyung." She said.
"It is wrong!" Taehyung glared at her, "I was wrong everytime, the day when my parents asked me to not to do anything and the day I chose to live with you." He said, tears traced the way down to his cheeks and his lips trembled.
Kyungmi sat frozen, her eyes widened as Taehyung's words sank in. She stared at him, her chest tightening as she realized the weight of his regret. He didn't just blamed himself for the past, he questioned everything, even their relationship.
"Do you regret our relationship?" Kyungmi finally asked, hoping to listen something that would ease her mind, that would give her another chance to come back to Taehyung, but she was wrong.
For the next few moments, Taehyung sat silently, trying to search the words, to explain how much he hated to love her, how much he hated to have a desire to live an ordinary life with her.
"I was happy the day when court released Jimin." Taehyung began, "I finally convinced my parents to see him juts for once. But when we arrived on their address they had left home, nobody knew where they disappeared?" He said, "I decided I'd find him one day, no matter what, I'll search for my brother. I did everything my parents asked me for, I became a good son, they wanted to see me as a successful psychologist and I did. And then, one day I met you, once again I became greedy, for a moment I wanted to live my life again, and for three years I forgot my goal, I forgot that I wanted to search my brother." He went silent again.
Kyungmi, realized now, why Taehyung never tried to stop her, why he never called her back, while everyday she desperately hoped for Taehyung would try to bring her back in life.
"Slowly, I began to realize that I'm being selfish again, I have access on my life and I'm still doing nothing for Jimin. I stopped telling the lies to myself, I think that's why I grew distance with you. " Taehyung said, he looked at her with passionate gaze that plead to something, Kyungmi felt confused, her eyes locked with Taehyung's and she didn't want to let this moment slip away from her hands.
