Broken Possessors of Infinite Regression Academy

Chapter 104

“Brynhild, looked at the sky.”
“I am. What is that?”
Brynhild frowned at the obviously unnaturally spreading black clouds.
“I don’t know. It’s probably not good for us, though.”
The black clouds in the sky were gathering in one direction at that very moment. It was where Mahbat had fallen.
How could that be good for us? Just looking at it, it looks exactly like the black energy I’ve seen so far.
“Let’s hurry, before it’s too late.”
“Uh, yeah.”
Brynhild snapped out of it and followed me. How long had it been since I used physical enhancement and ran? After crossing the mountain range, I could see where Mahbat had fallen.
Due to the impact of the collision, a large basin had formed around the dragon’s body. In the center of the basin, Mahbat was struggling to get up with only one remaining wing.
Of course, it wasn’t easy. It seemed to be the first time that a whole wing had been torn off; every time he tried to get up, he would fall again when he tried to fly.
‘How’s the sky… is it still okay?’
The black cloud didn’t seem to be doing anything yet. Unless it’s just floating there, empowering Mahbat.
“There’s no sign of it starting yet, so let’s aim to finish it before the situation gets complicated. If we drag it out, it’ll only get more disadvantageous for us, right?”
Brynhild nodded in determination. With the battle imminent, her dazed expression was almost gone.
Holding Eternity in one hand, I went down the slope. Brynhild, holding the Holy Sword, followed. After jumping down several cliffs that were dozens of meters high, we arrived in the basin, and I was once again struck by how huge Mahbat was.
I felt like my height was truly smaller than one of his teeth, and the blood flowing from his severed wing seemed like a large lake. Every time he tried to get up, the whole area shook.
“Is there a way to kill that thing? I’ve heard that dragon scales are incredibly tough.”
“There is a way. Somewhere on the chest of that dragon is a reverse scale, a single scale growing in the opposite direction. You have to pierce and destroy the Dragon Heart through that scale. Otherwise, you can never kill it. The Dragon Heart absorbs all attacks.”
“Even the magic you used, Mira?”
“Do you think I would have just torn off the wings if I could have killed it with that? I would have aimed for the body.”
The scales that covered the dragon’s body were almost impossible to destroy, but the real key to their immortality was the Dragon Heart.
The scales provided the first line of defense, and in the rare case that an attack exceeded the scale’s durability, the Dragon Heart would react and absorb the power. The absorbed power would become the dragon’s own.
It didn’t matter what kind of power it was or how strong it was. According to Prisilla and Elysier, it even absorbed the fully awakened Sacred Sword and the Demon King’s slash completely.
The only part of a dragon that the Dragon Heart’s power didn’t work on was the wings, and that’s why I targeted them. It was also to seal its mobility.

“They say that dragons can’t absorb each other’s attacks, but we can’t bring the Chairman here, can we? That’s why we’re aiming for the reverse scale.”
“Uh… where is it?”
“There. Under the chin, that one.”
Brynhild narrowed her eyes and looked at Mahbat, but she couldn’t find it.
It wasn’t easy to spot, as it wasn’t a different color or unusually large, and it was just one scale growing in the opposite direction among thousands or tens of thousands of other scales.
“I can’t find it.”
“Then ask the Sacred Sword. Maybe it knows. It might know.”
“The Sacred Sword?”
Brynhild looked doubtful, but since it was me who suggested it, she decided to trust me and gripped the hilt, closing her eyes. Soon, her golden irises, round and wide, looked at me.
“It’s really there? I see a faint glow under the chin. That must be the reverse scale.”
‘It was like that in the original too.’
After cutting off the wing, the Sacred Sword had told Brynhild about the dragon’s weakness when she was struggling to deal any damage. So I hinted at it, hoping it would help, and fortunately, the Sacred Sword still remembered.
“I’ll try to destroy only half of the Dragon Heart without killing it, so that the Chairman can finish it off herself, but don’t push yourself too hard. It’s better to bring back just the corpse than to bring it back alive and end up dying ourselves. Right?”
Even if our attempt failed, we had enough means to escape, but I didn’t want to be careless just because we had that assurance. Brynhild’s face was determined as she held the Sacred Sword tightly.
“Okay.”
“Good. Let’s go. If that strange black energy comes down, you’ll take care of it.”
“Okay! Leave it to me!”
I immediately took off running, and Brynhild followed suit, a step behind, as if to protect me. Mahbat reacted to our movement and started to get up. An unknown power burned in its dull gray eyes.
Even with one wing missing, a dragon was still a dragon. As it rose, its enormous size temporarily blocked the sun, casting a shadow.
“Mira! The clouds!”
“Of course, it won’t go down without a fight.”
The clouds in the sky began to gather around Mahbat as it rose. Like a whirlwind, they enveloped its body and spread black energy in all directions.

“Brynhild! It’s your turn!”
“I was about to do that– huh? Huh?!”
Brynhild, who was about to swing the Sacred Sword against the black energy, suddenly made a strange sound.
Before I could turn to see what was going on, a huge light erupted from behind me, blowing away all the black energy that had been spreading in all directions.
The clouds swirling around Mahbat melted as they touched the light. The black energy was purified and disappeared without contaminating anything.
“……Brynhild?”
The Sacred Sword, which had caused this miraculous purification, was held by Brynhild, who looked the most surprised. She stood there, looking down at the Sacred Sword.
“……I understand. I won’t fight alone anymore……”
I couldn’t understand the whole sentence because the words were broken, but I could tell she was having a conversation with the Sacred Sword.
‘Did the Sacred Sword have a consciousness?’
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of an ego sword.
“Mira.”
Apparently, the conversation was over, and Brynhild looked at me.
“Don’t ask any questions, just do what you have to do. I’ll take care of the rest.”
I nodded and ran towards Mahbat, holding Eternity. It would be foolish to ask why here. I’ve been doing this myself, so how could I not trust others when they do the same?
As I closed the distance to Mahbat, the golden light behind me grew stronger. Surprisingly, even though the light was shining on my back, no shadow was cast in front of me.
The light, defying the natural order, illuminated my path. Even more surprising was that Eternity was gradually absorbing the light. A golden aura was gathering on the blade.
‘What was this called again? Resonance, I think.’
It was a phenomenon where the power of the Sacred Sword strengthened, naturally granting fighting power to those nearby.
The condition for granting power was only one: the person must be truly trusted by the hero. That’s why only the main party could receive it until the end.
I don’t know how it was awakened now, but it’s not a bad thing. I quickened my pace and glanced back.
Brynhild was floating in the air.
With her hands raised above her head, she was in a position to bring down the Sacred Sword.
“Gooooo……”
The light gathered on the Sacred Sword, and it was swung down. The sky split, dividing the world into two. On one side, morning came, and on the other, darkness fell. The radiance that burst forth dyed the sky golden.
The black clouds swirling around Mahbat were no match for the light. The colors melted and mixed. All colors were submerged in the radiance, turning into a single hue.
At the same time, the energy swirling around Mahbat also evaporated. Its movements slowed down noticeably. It seemed that the power of the Demon God was strengthening it, just like the Vampire Lord.
This was enough. As I closed in to a distance where I could attack, I summoned my mana.
Mahbat swung its front leg, sweeping the ground. Various things were thrown into the air as the earth was dug up. A wave of dirt, earth, and boulders rushed towards me.
I had no intention of just standing there and taking it. I rapidly activated the mana circuits throughout my body and pulled my right hand, holding Eternity, towards my left shoulder, preparing to swing.
I released my mana and swung Eternity. A rapid mana reaction erupted from the path of the blade.
“Kwa-gwak!”
The trajectory of the swing turned into a barrier. A high-level barrier spell blocked the wave of dirt. Cracks formed in the barrier when Mahbat’s front leg collided with it, but I was already long gone from that spot.
I jumped off the ground. The spot where my feet touched the ground burst into flames. I swung Eternity again. The blade didn’t pierce Mahbat’s scales, but instead, a binding spell took hold of its front leg.
Kiki, the binding spell began to twist, and it would only last a few seconds at most. It was enough. I was now very close to its reverse scale.
Just as its front leg broke free of the binding spell, I was already in position. The preparation was complete. I used my swordsmanship and channeled my magic.
Demon Sword Technique.
A swordsmanship that combines swordplay and magic, allowing one to replace chanting and magic circles by swinging the sword.
The magic was manifested and unleashed as the sword was swung, and at the same time, the completed swordsmanship scattered the radiance that had been imbued by the Sacred Sword.
“Secret Technique. Heavenly Piercing Slash.”
The tip of Eternity touched Mahbat’s reverse scale.
