Chapter 47: Strong Will

Three days later.

Kyle and Gasco had finally been discharged from the hospital. As they stepped outside, they inhaled the air, tinged with the scent of gunpowder smoke.

"It seems like New York isn't too peaceful. I bet someone's about to go hunting for something."

During this time, Kyle had kept busy. Alice had sent over documents that couldn't be processed at the hospital, leaving him to manage them.

With the chairman in the hospital and unable to oversee operations, there were several requests regarding the special gastric medicine formula and the beauty serum.

One of the major events during this period involved a large subordinate store in New York being robbed by several groups of unidentified forces, leading to a total loss of over $300,000.

"Boss, someone hired a gang of wild dogs to rob our store, and we've got their people working in the police," Natasha said, handing over a tablet. The information she uncovered during her time collaborating with the Red Queen was starting to paint a clearer picture.

What was even more intriguing was how the Red Queen's role seemed to have been deliberately weakened, with communications exchanged through a fax machine.

"Yeah, I've been thinking about that. Why do the police show up half an hour after the robbery each time? It's just too much of a coincidence."

Kyle had pieced things together. The culprits behind the thefts were none other than his charming colleagues.

The special stomach medicine had a powerful effect. Many long-term sufferers of stomach issues were fully cured after just three treatments. The beauty serum was equally impressive, providing perfect scar removal in just a week, and its affordability made it accessible to a wide market.

Although these products didn't make a huge impact on the market, they had disrupted the existing companies. Businesses that once made substantial profits now only managed a small fraction of their usual revenue, with even that being unreliable.

"Boss, I really don't know where you learned this from. A typical 15-year-old should still be daydreaming about love in high school."

Natasha was in awe. Kyle's level of maturity didn't match his age at all. But then again, considering things like the No. 7 Crystal, the Red Queen, and the bio-enhanced serum all things Kyle had invented it wasn't entirely impossible.

To cover up the suspicion, Kyle claimed that all of these innovations were his own creations, giving a satisfying explanation for Gasco and the others.

"No choice, I was simply born with a gift for talent, wisdom, and handsomeness!" Kyle said dramatically, striking a pose with one hand on his forehead, his tone dripping with narcissism.

What he didn't notice was Gasco and Natasha exchanging unimpressed looks behind his back.

"Hey! What's that supposed to mean? Am I not handsome?" Kyle asked, noticing the expressions of the two.

Gasco and Natasha hurried into the newly renovated Lexus and tried to close the door, leaving Kyle outside. However, Kyle managed to squeeze into the car before Natasha could lock him out, and finally, Gasco started the car, heading towards the company.

Water Company, Training Room

Inside the training room, the sound of crackling and intense activity echoed. Three of the superpowered individuals stood outside the glass, their faces full of concern and amazement.

"It's too brutal! Is he even human?"

"This is terrifying. This is what a real man looks like!"

"Too extreme! But this is how a real man should be!"

They observed Longton's training, each remarking on his insane endurance. Even Daisy, the coldest of them, seemed impressed.

If they themselves were subjected to this training, they'd last no more than two hours. But Longton had already been going for four hours. Since six in the morning, he hadn't stopped, only pausing to hydrate.

"Hey, what are you all looking at?" Kyle walked in, wearing a white coat and holding a record book in hand, with Natasha right behind him. They quickly noticed the three of them standing transfixed in front of the observation mirror.

Curious about why the three of them were so fascinated, Kyle's sharp mind pieced together the scene.

"Wang Defa? Natasha, is this your doing?" Kyle asked, surprised by what he saw.

Longton's training method was pure self-inflicted punishment. Four long whips were attached to a rotating machine, and Longton stood in the path of the whips, deliberately taking the hits. His body was slick with sweat, but he showed no signs of activating any of his powers, relying purely on his immense physical strength to resist the pain.

"No, he asked for this himself," Natasha clarified, coming over. She too had been stunned when Longton first proposed the idea.

The machine wasn't fast, but it rotated 120 times a minute, with each strike strong enough to tear the skin. And yet, Longton had only red marks across his body, his posture unwavering. A small puddle of sweat had formed beneath his feet.

"He said he endured this as a child, taking the brunt of his father's rage to protect his mother. Seven years of pain made him accustomed to it," Natasha explained. "Once he realized his ability was indestructible, he decided to toughen his body to match."

Even Natasha had never tried such an extreme method, and naturally, as a woman, it wasn't something she would have considered. But Longton's sheer willpower was evident. It wasn't surprising that someone like him could succeed in the awakening process.

"What a great guy. He reminds me of Admiral Longton, who could rival Green Fatty!" Kyle clapped his hands in admiration, before mentally resolving to correct Longton's troubling masochistic tendencies.

If Longton could shift from merely taking damage to actively attacking with his fists, he'd become an unstoppable force.

However, fixing Longton's mindset would require finding his parents, who were at the heart of his issues.

"Alright, enough watching. You guys need to get back to your training. Lillian, you should focus on your physical fitness for now."

Natasha finally snapped out of her stupor, realizing the morning training session was nearly over. She ushered the three of them back to their tasks. Lillian's powers hadn't manifested yet, so she could only focus on physical conditioning.

"Yeah, I have a feeling these four will be the pillars of our superpower team," Kyle said as he watched them head back to their rooms.

The next batch of recruits was already being screened, and Kyle hoped this new group would bring him unexpected surprises.
