Chapter 1769: The Children of the Sun and the Moon (Part 2)
...
"Siblings?" asked Shin as he was somewhat curious about this. Aside from him wanting to know about the location of the other inheritance item, the [Ring of the Abyssal Moon], Shin also wanted to know more about this Fifth Envoy of the Church of the Sun and Moon.
Given the inherited knowledge about the powers of the Sun, Flame, and Light that he had gotten from the dungeon, Shin also wanted to know more about his predecessor on this path.
There was a nostalgic feeling present in the eyes of Cardinal Ronald when he recalled the story of this pair of siblings, and he could not help but sigh in the end. "These poor children sure are pitiful."
"They are a victim of the long war between the countries and huge forces during the Warring Era. Their parents have fallen in the countless and chaotic wars during that time."
"Their parents are elven nobles from a certain kingdom. They are fleeing from the far that broke out in their hometown when they get entangled with another war between the Salamander Clan and Dire Tribes, these two huge factions within the Land of Dawn."
"These children have become orphans at a very young age, which also makes them grow much faster compared to their peers."
He then paused for a moment as he reminisced about the past before continuing. "They have then found their way to the main branch of the Church of the Sun and Moon, which is only starting to take shape at that time."
"They are still very young at that time, which is why they are sent to the orphanage built right beside the church."
"They then grow up quite well at that time and mature under the care of the clerics and nuns of the orphanage."
He then sighed as he further added. "Unfortunately, something unexpected happened not long after. The invasion of the Demon Realm has suddenly descended, sweeping through every place and shaking the entire world."
"The originally warring countries and factions during that time then unite to fight against the common enemy, which signaled the start of the Repelling Era."
"Unfortunately, not many have managed to withstand the initial attack of the demons. Among them, one of the places that has been hit hard is the hometown of the two, which is barely able to survive the war of the previous era."
Shin slightly frowned his brows when he heard those, but suppressed the doubts and questions that he had as the old cardinal continued.
"During this era, a lot of powers and talents have emerged one after another. A lot of heavenly talents have also awakened immediately after."
"Among the first few batches of talents, Lady Qilué and Sir Altus become one of the brightest stars."
"But their talents and awakened powers have forced them to separate immediately," said Cardinal Ronald with a sigh. "Sir Altus is among the rare bunch of elves who are blessed by the Sun instead of the Moon or the Worldly Elements, which are supposed to be the common traits of the elves."
"His closeness with the Sun has attracted the attention of our Envoys, inviting him to take on the role of being the fifth envoy, which he has also agreed to."
"Throughout the history of our Church, Sir Altus is the sole envoy that have not turned into a Nephilim. But due to his relationship with 'Sun', despite being an elf, his position in the church is quite special."
"Because of this, he is unable to leave the Church as he needs to undergo a series of intense training under the other Envoys."
With another sigh, Cardinal Ronald continued. "Meanwhile, Lady Qilué has awakened the unique powers of the Night Elves. Her ability to control the Powers of the Moon far surpassed most of the elves, which attracted the attention of the First Holy Maiden of the Temple of the Moon."
"She was then taken back by the elves of the temple to also train to become their Holy Maiden."
"This event causes the pair of siblings to be apart from each other for quite a long time. They have never met for decades as they are busy with their respective training and the fronts of war where they are fighting the Demons of the Demon Realm."
The old cardinal continued to narrate the stories about the lives of this legendary pair along with their achievements.
Not long after, they finally arrived at the part that Shin was waiting for.
"After fighting in the frontlines for quite a long time, Sir Altus decided to investigate the events that took place in their homeland and discovered that it was caused by Kardama, the Fallen Dark Dragon."
"Kardama is one of the Dragons that have a close relationship with the Elves, who are also the protectors of the homeland of Sir Altus and Lady Qilué. But he has fallen victim to the trap of the Demons, which led to corrupting his mind."
"His greed became the main weapon that the demons used to tempt him to join their side."
"Learning that Kardama is the cause of the destruction of that kingdom, Sir Altus is enraged. He then started hunting Kardama, which led to a very intense battle."
"As for the rest of the details, I guess you have already gotten it from the inherited knowledge that Sir Altus has left to you," smiled Cardinal Ronald as he turned to Shin.
The old cardinal waited for Shin to digest while also taking the letter that the latter wanted him to decipher. After reading it for a couple of moments, he then put the letter down and sighed bitterly.
It took him quite a while before telling Shin the contents of the letter. "This letter is what Lady Qilué has sent to Sir Altus to tell him about her success in forging the [Ring of the Abyssal Moon] along with her master."
He paused for a moment as he released another regretful sigh before continuing. "It seems like Sir Altus has discovered something after forging the [Ring of the Brilliant Sun]. He then asked his sister to help him forge another right, which will contain the Power of the Abyssal Moon."
"From my guess, he wants the two rings to be another symbol of the Church of the Sun and Moon along with the other legendary artifacts that we already have, which then become his dying wish."
"Unfortunate. Truly unfortunate. Such poor children," sighed Cardinal Ronald as he could imagine how heartbroken Lady Qilué was after learning of the death of her brother, her sole family. Especially when they seemed to have not met until Fifth Envoy Altus had fallen.
He then passed the letter back to Shin while adding. "You can take this to the Temple of the Moon and look for Lady Qilué. She must have been waiting for the successor of her brother for quite a long time now. I am sure that she will be happy to see you."
"Temple of the Moon?" Shin could not help but frown a little as he thought about this faction.
It was supposed to be one of the main religions within the Elven Race. Its main base of operation was in the Alfheim Kingdom, the kingdom of elves and fairies.
It was another major region and quite far from the Divine Empire. He felt that this 'quest' needed some time before he could proceed to the next stage.
For now, he had to focus on exploration in the Forgotten Sea and the regions around the Divinity City before proceeding to the other regions.
After all, his race was more related to the Human Race rather than the others, so he had to explore more in the Divine Empire before proceeding to the other major regions.
'I seem to remember that Alice will be heading to the Alfheim Kingdom along with Ithilien. Maybe I can ask them later to help me look for the Holy Maiden?' he thought for a moment before shaking his head. 'Nah. It will not work since those two are from the Throne of Elves and Elven Council.'
'I guess I can only go there quickly before going back to the Divine Empire later,' he decided before thanking the old cardinal.
He did not immediately leave after getting what he needed. Instead, he continued to chat with Cardinal Ronald, attempting to fish for more details about the siblings and trying to test his luck if he could get another high-level quest.
Unfortunately, the old cardinal did not give him any instructions or ask him to do any special task.
In the end, he could only leave in disappointment.
The old cardinal even told Shin that he could just look at the mission board displayed in the hall of the church if he wanted to do any job or if he was bored.
"Tsk! I guess it can't be helped. I can't be always lucky when it comes to stumbling into a special quest most of the time," he grumbled as he walked through the corridor of the church.
When he was about to reach the main entrance of the church, he could not help but turn toward the mission hall and saw a group of paladins, clerics, and priests walking around and looking for a suitable mission to take.
Some adventurers were also affiliated with the church, so there were quite a few of them looking around, making the hall quite lively.
He was looking, he suddenly spotted Samael, who seemed to be staring at the top-most part of the mission board.
"Hmm? What is this kid doing here? Is he looking for a mission?" mumbled Shin confusedly as he looked at the young paladin.
Samael already had a special ranking within the church and had become an 'Eclipse Templar' after completing a series of special Chain Quests. His entire equipment and weapons also belong to the church's unique set, which indicates his status.
If he wanted to get a mission from the church, he could just directly apply for it in the Archbishops' Office, and it would be granted immediately after.
Shin scratched the bottom of his chin before walking over. He was quite curious about what attracted this kid to come into this hall.
