Chosen Legacy

Chapter 16: Chapter 16- Elias – Something Unexpected (VOLUME 1)

*~*Elias's POV*~*

I didn't mind spending the weekend with Reagan and the others. He was my cousin, one of my best friends, and my possible future Alpha. I had spent a good deal of my time training and learning to be Reagan's Beta when the time came. I was sure that it would end up the same way that it was for our dads. My dad was first the assistant and then the Beta to my Uncle Reece. And I thought that it would be the same for us.

It wasn't like I was worshipping Reagan or anything. And it wasn't like I was kowtowing to him either. I was just trying to foster the best relationship for us that I could, both familial and pack wise, I wanted the relationship between us to be strong and last forever. Although, that might make me sound naïve and slightly stupid.

This year, we weren't as grouped together as we had been before. Reagan and Luka were going into politics, I was in law, Levi hadn't decided on a major yet so he was bouncing around, and Rowan was studying criminal justice like his dad had done when he first went to university.

I think that I liked the fact that we were separating a little bit. If we never left each other's sides, then we wouldn't know how to function in life without the same people at our sides all the time. And it also gave me time to meet other people.

There was one person that I wanted to meet. Someone that I could sense in the distance, but I didn't know if I should seek them out just yet. I didn't want to scare them off if I came on too strong.

Of course, I was talking about my mate. I had sensed them ever since the second day of the new term. I had come across the scent at random, while walking across the campus toward my class for that morning.

I didn't smell them every day, so I didn't think that they were a professor or anything, but I smelled them several times last week. And here it was Monday of the second week.

I knew that she was here. I could smell her, but she hadn't noticed me yet. If she was human, which she very well might be based on the scent that I was picking up, then I didn't want to scare her off. I needed to come across her naturally. If I sought her out, then I might never convince her to go out with me.

No, I was just going to live my life the way that I was meant to until I came across her in the way that the Goddess had intended. If fate had wanted me and this girl to be together, then I would let Fate take control and make it happen. I am a big believer in fate and destiny.

I attended just one class on Monday mornings. It was a little later in the morning than the others had their class, but I still arrived at the same time as they did. It was a deal that we had all made with each other. We would get to the university early enough to spend time with each other in the mornings. We would trickle out as we needed to and go to our classes when they started. Those of us that were out at similar times would have lunch together. It was a great way to support our group and show the world that we were caring and thoughtful.

There were still gawkers and fanatics that showed up from time to time. I was the last to leave the fountain on Mondays because of when my class was, and today there was a group of three girls that were standing quite close by. They were looking in my direction and giggling. I didn't recognize them, so they might have been freshmen, or they could have just slipped my mind. I tried my best to never forget anything, but I wasn't like Talia, it took effort for me.

"Hee hee hee." One of them laughed even more as she took two steps toward me. I was watching her out of the corner of my eye, only paying half attention to the paper that was in my hands. I had been going over my internship papers again. Yes, I was excited about it. No, I didn't care if people called me obsessed.

"Go on!" One of the girls whispered as the one came a little closer to me.

"I am." She whispered back. I am sure that they didn't know that I could hear them.

A few more tentative steps later and the girl felt like she was close enough to me. She was smiling and blushing, so I knew that this wasn't going to be a negative interaction. The only problem is, I wasn't sure how to handle people in most situations. I was hoping that having the internship would help me as well. I needed to be more sociable outside of my normal group.

"Uh..uhm, e..e..excuse me." She called out, extremely nervous as she stuttered and laughed through the words.

"Yes?" I finally raised my head, not telling her that I had heard her the entire time. There was no need to embarrass her more than she already was.

"A..a..are you Elias Whitton? Y..y..you're a werewolf, right?" I smiled at her. She was trying to be brave as she came closer to me with her words. She seemed excited to hear my answer.

"Yes, I am Elias Whitton. And that is partially true." I was being open, friendly, and honest, just like I needed to be. We had talked as a group at the beginning of summer, and we agreed that we needed to do all that we could to foster a better relationship with the humans. And, for us at the university, the other students were who we aimed to work with at the moment. We would, in the long run, do our best to work with more of the country and the world.

"H..how is it only partially true?" She asked, seemingly more curious than before.

"Well, I am not just a wolf. I am also part Fae on my father's side. You see, the brother of the Fae Queen is related to me."

"Wow, so not only is your aunt a queen, but you have royal blood on another side. That is so awesome." Her eyes were shimmering with wonder and excitement when she said that. "S..s..so, E..E..Elias, w..will you go out with me?" She stuttered through her question and I felt for her, I really did. However, with the scent of my mate on campus and nearby, I would never be able to give her the attention that she deserved.

Still, I rose to my feet, closed the distance between us and gave her a smile. She needed something to make this moment a little less mortifying. Most men would not consider her feelings like this, so I wanted to help her out.

"I am sorry, but I cannot go out with you at the moment. You see, we super naturals are usually bound to one soul from the moment we are born, and I can sense that other soul nearby. My soulmate is here, and I need to find her." I took the girl's hand and kissed it quickly, just a gentlemanly peck. "If I was not so near my forever love, I would love to have gone on a date with you. You seem like a lovely woman with a kind soul."

"Oh my God!" She exclaimed as she looked up at me, her face bright red with excitement and embarrassment. "You are so nice. I hope you find her soon. I will be rooting for you, Elias." She sounded so happy, even though I had turned her down.

"Thank you. I hope that I find her soon as well." I bowed my head a little to show her that I respected her for what she had done. "You have a lovely day."

"You too." She started to walk away and I watched her until she stopped to look at me again. "Oh, by the way, my name is Lucy. It was wonderful to have met you in person, Elias. Thank you." Her friends squealed at her words before they all ran off together. She truly was a nice girl.

I let that smile from her asking me out stay on my face throughout my class. I might have my mate nearby, but it was nice and quite flattering to have someone ask me out like that. It made me feel good.

After class, I was supposed to report for my first day of the internship. I had interviewed for the position here on campus, so I hadn't been there in person yet. And today I was going to be tagging along with one of their junior associates to learn more about the building.

The first thing that struck me when I got to the building was that familiar scent that I had been smelling over the last week. She has here, or had been here. Was she a client? Did she work here? Who was she? And where was she? I really wanted to know, but I wasn't going to follow my nose until I tripped over her. I wasn't like Uncle Reece that much. I was more like my dad, calm, cool, and collected. Just also slowly going insane from those wonderful snatches of scent that kept tickling at my senses.

If she was here, I would find her. Somehow, I would find her.
