COTE: Expelliarmis… Wait, Why Isn’t It Working?! (MTL)

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: In a new world called "Earth"

The 60-Year of Journey ?????

I woke up not because of the gentle sunlight streaming through the window, but because of a loud "BOOM!" right outside the room.

It felt like the whole house had just been hit by an apocalyptic earthquake, and I was the unwilling victim. I jumped up like a fish thrown onto the shore, my heart pounding.

"WHAT?!"

Then I hurried out of the room. But before I could understand what was happening, an unidentified object flew straight at my face.

"POP!" A desk clock—yes, a heavy metal clock—hit my forehead with the force of a thunderbolt. Had this house changed from a normal alarm to a physical one?!!

I felt betrayed by the familiar object, as if the whole world had decided that I didn't need to use my brain this morning.

If the force was a little stronger, I would have had the chance to take a free tour through the gates of hell.

"DAMN IT!! DOES OUR FAMILY HAVE A Grudge WITH THE DESK CLOCK OR WHAT?!"

In that moment of shock, I seemed to see a figure wearing a black cloak, holding a scythe, standing in the corner of the room, looking at me expectantly... and disappointedly.

I swear I saw him shaking his head, sighing like a bored office worker who was forced to work overtime.

His eyes seemed to say: "How the hell wasn't that hit enough to send you off? I already prepared a contract to pick you up!"

No, wait, that wasn't the real Grim Reaper?! I held my forehead, thinking that something was wrong with my head, this must be just a dream.

But the pain from the impact earlier made me sober up.

"FUCK! I was literally woken up by a clock?! It's fine to wake me up by a clock, but do you have to THROW IT RIGHT IN MY FACE?! Or did my parents think that instead of a gentle alarm, they should use this method to be sure?!"

I shook my head, squinting around the house to check if I was dreaming—and immediately felt my heart drop to my feet.

My house was... empty. But not empty because it was clean or because someone had just moved in.

No. This was empty in an apocalyptic way, the scene before me was like something out of a disaster movie: furniture was being sucked into the magic ring like a tornado, the tables and chairs had disappeared without a trace, my bookshelf had disappeared into nothingness.

"This is a new kind of house robbery?!"

And the worst part was that my parents were throwing things in there like they were in a "Who can throw things away faster" contest.

"The space ring is floating in the middle of the living room... I can see it shaking, I can tell, I'm not mistaken. Is it about to quit its job out of desperation?!"

I swear if it had a mouth, it would scream, "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! STOP THROWING THINGS AT ME! I WANT TO GO ON STRIKE!" Then it would run out of my house with all its might

Oh, by the way: "WHAT THE HELL?! WHY ARE MY PARENTS THROWING THINGS INTO THE STORAGE SPACE?!" I screamed in panic.

I slapped my cheek lightly, but when the stinging sensation spread, I realized this was no dream.

I rubbed my eyes repeatedly, looking back at the scene in front of me, hoping that I was just seeing things wrong. But no, everything was still as chaotic as before. My eyes kept twitching as if they refused to accept information.

I stood there, in the middle of a mess of flying objects, wondering if I had forgotten about the end of the world yesterday.

"WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING?! DAD! MOM! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THE HOUSE?! DON'T TELL ME YOU'VE CREATED SOMETHING THAT'S GOING TO DESTROY THE WORLD AGAIN?! OR ARE YOU ALL PREPARING TO ESCAPE FROM DEBT?!""

Reika Hayashi turned to look at me, her face expressionless, as if she was tired of life. Her eyes contained the resignation of a woman who had grown accustomed to her husband's antics. "Well, that's about right. We're moving house."

My father threw a chandelier into the space ring, tossing his hair like a nobleman. "Moving house in a modern, quick, and labor-saving way."

I blinked, trying to figure out if my brain hadn't yet updated the information. "Moving house... by leveling the whole house?!"

My father sighed like a reluctant philosopher, pulled out a heavy cauldron, and threw it straight into the space ring.

"Kazuki, haven't you ever seen anyone move house? This is the most modern, time-saving way to move assets, and... well, financially it's not too bad... if you don't calculate too much."

My father shrugged, his face full of innocence, but his eyes flashed with the cunning of a businessman who had just found a legal way to evade taxes.

"That's a practical financial philosophy. The important thing is to be relaxed and not be pressured by the numbers!"

After speaking, he tilted his head and patted my shoulder as if he was conveying a great truth of life.

I gasped. "What the hell are you talking about?!"

My mother folded her arms, looking at my father with the eyes of someone who doesn't want to argue with an idiot.

"Stop talking, pick up that chair and throw it in, quickly! We don't have much time!"

I gasped, feeling like I had just been dragged into a mysterious evacuation that no one had bothered to announce in advance.

"Wait! What do you mean no time? Does our family really owe someone money?! Or did I accidentally invent something that could wipe out humanity?!"

My father patted his chest, his eyes sparkling with... cunning.

"There's no such thing! Actually, Dad just... um... accidentally made a bet with some old men in the Magic Council. It's a small matter. It's just that Dad... um... bet a little too much. And since the betting laws in this world are protected by the government, we're forced to abide by the contract. In other words... we have no choice but to leave this place immediately."

I blinked, my mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. "Are you saying that our whole family is going to another world just because he lost a bet?!"

My dad coughed, avoiding my gaze. "Let's call this a 60-year long-term trip?"

A series of not-so-elegant words started to line up in my head. I really wanted to swear right now.

'FUCK! WHAT IS A 60-YEAR TOUR?! DAD THINK THIS IS A VACATION?!'

I gritted my teeth, trying to suppress the anger that was rising in my brain. This wasn't a trip, this was a disguised exile! I felt like a pawn pushed off the chessboard just because of my old man's moment of excitement!

I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm, but my reason screamed at me to ask immediately.

"Wait, if I follow my parents, then how can I graduate from High School for Magicians?!"

Renji Hayashi waved his hand confidently, as if this had been arranged beforehand. "Don't worry, someone will take care of this later. Hahahahahha!"

My father laughed awkwardly, turning away and pretending to be busy stuffing another couch into the space ring. "A ha ha... let's leave that for later! The important thing right now is to change, Kazuki! We don't have time!"

Journey to another world

When everything was ready, I stood in the middle of the living room, looking around the house that was once filled with furniture, now only bare walls remained.

Exactly at 11 o'clock in the morning, the space in the middle of the living room suddenly shook slightly, the ground emitted a faint light. A magic teleportation circle appeared.

At that moment, from within the circle, a figure walked out. It was a man wearing a black cloak, his face hidden by a thick cloth, only revealing sharp, probing eyes. He glanced around, then nodded at my father.

"Renji, is everything ready?"

My father nodded repeatedly like a chicken pecking rice. "Of course! My whole family is ready!"

The stranger went into the bedroom with my father, checked a magic document carved on stone, nodded to confirm something, then turned back to look at me. He signaled with a brief nod.

"Everything is as agreed. Time to go."

My mother said nothing, just gave me a "loving" push from behind. "Let's go, son, before you start asking two hundred more questions."

My father patted my shoulder with vigor. "Don't worry, son! This trip will definitely be fun! Just think of it as a chance to refresh your life!"

I glared at him. "What kind of refreshment is this, kicking you to another world?!"

But before I could protest further, the light from the teleportation circle suddenly flared up. It felt like my body was being sucked into an invisible stream, the space around me twisted as if I had just been thrown into a giant washing machine.

In an instant, the ground reappeared beneath my feet. But this was no longer my familiar home.

I was standing in a huge room, surrounded by countless cutting-edge magical devices, the intricate magic circles engraved on the floor shining brightly.

The air carried a metallic scent mixed with a hint of dense magical energy, making me feel like I had just entered a top-secret research center that I had only read about in textbooks.

In front of me was a group of mages in white robes, their faces solemnly observing me as if I were a foreign object that had just been transported from another planet. One of them turned to the man who had led me through the portal.

"The goods have arrived safely. Confirming my identity once more."

I frowned. "Wait, who is the 'goods' here?! I'm not a package, why would I check and confirm?!"

The stranger ignored my protests, pulled out a magic stone tablet, mumbled a few sentences, and nodded. "Everything matches the data. Prepare for the next step."

I turned to my parents, panicked. "Mom! Dad! What the hell is this place?! Didn't we say we were going to 'settle down permanently'?! This looks more like a quarantine center for illegal immigrants!"

My dad laughed awkwardly, nudging my mom's arm. "Um... I guess it's just that this is your first time seeing a state-of-the-art interdimensional teleportation system, so you're a little confused. Right, Reika?"

My mom glared at my dad, sighed, and crossed her arms. "We're at a government transit station. Anyone who leaves and returns to the magical world has to go through here to confirm their identity and go through the paperwork."

I stood rooted to the spot, eyes wide as if I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This was no ordinary inspection center—this was the Magical Teleportation Order Management Customs Department, a place reserved for the military and high-level mages on missions to explore and exploit other worlds.

Civilians were almost never allowed to set foot in it unless they were government-approved immigrants.

"No way..." I muttered, my eyes scanning the state-of-the-art magical equipment, the giant teleportation circles in operation, and the many high-level mages walking around with serious expressions.

I had read about this place in books, but I never thought I would have the chance to see it with my own eyes.

One of the mages standing nearby raised an eyebrow at me, but then silently wrote something down on the magic book. I shivered. It felt like I had just been put on the 'special watch list'...

The teleportation was ready, the magic circle glowed brighter. A middle-aged man in a blue robe stepped out from behind the group of mages, his appearance was majestic but his face exuded a relaxed expression, as if he had done this hundreds of times.

The man walked in front of my father, nodded, and said to my father:

"Renji, rest assured, we will erase all related data. There will be no traces left behind. I am Arata Kisaragi, the director of the Customs Department for the Order of Magical Teleportation of this transfer station. That person told me, I admire you very much."

I immediately turned to my father, frowning. "Wait... who is that?! What did dad do that even government officials 'admire' him like this?!"

My dad just smiled mysteriously, not answering but turning to the man in blue, patting him on the shoulder in a friendly manner. "Then leave it to me, big brother. We won't bother you for long."

The man nodded, raising his hand to create a magic sign in the air. Immediately, the teleportation circle burst into life, engulfing my entire family in a brilliant beam of light.

The surrounding mages began to check the system again. One opened a spellbook, sweeping his hand across the sparkling characters on the surface, while another tapped a magic sphere to adjust the flow of energy.

"Confirming the destination world coordinates: World C74 - Timeline A3 - Destination - Earth - Japan, East Asia Region. The teleportation system is starting, the gate will open in 30 seconds."

"Magic power is stable. No signs of energy conflict. System ready to operate."

"Confirming the route of movement. No obstructions in the intermediate space. Absolutely safe."

Reports were given one after another, the sound echoing throughout the large room. A female magician with a professional appearance nodded, then signaled to Arata Kisaragi.

"Director, everything is ready. We can proceed."

Arata Kisaragi turned to my family, smiling meaningfully. "Then let's begin."

The light from the teleportation circle flared up fiercely, enveloping me and my family. It felt like my body was being stretched and compressed, as if I was being stuffed into a small, narrow tube and shot away at terrifying speed.

In a few short seconds, the surrounding space distorted, my vision was swallowed by a white area. Then suddenly, the ground reappeared under my feet.

I staggered a few steps, trying to keep my balance. My stomach twisted as if I had been stuffed into a giant blender. Nausea surged through me, and my head spun as if I had been lifted high into the air and then dropped.

"OH MY GOD..." My father held his stomach, falling to his knees, his face drained of color. My mother clutched my shoulders, trying not to fall as the wind blew past.

A light breeze blew, carrying the scent of fresh grass and damp earth, but it did nothing to help me feel better. I opened my eyes and found myself standing in the middle of a vast field, the blue sky stretching out endlessly.

In the distance, I could see tall buildings, winding roads, and bustling vehicles.

I gasped. "We... really have arrived in another world."

Kuzunoha Renji rummaged through his robe, taking out an object wrapped tightly in black velvet. He carefully opened each layer, as if it contained a priceless treasure.

When the last layer was removed, I saw a strange book without a title. The cover looked brand new, without any signs of age or wear. More notably, the book was not very thick, indicating that the content inside was not much.

I frowned, feeling that something was very strange. "What is this, Dad? It doesn't look like an ordinary book."

Father glanced at me, the corners of his lips curling up into an unreadable smile. "You'll find out soon enough."

My mother crossed her arms, glaring at my father in annoyance. "Stop pretending to be cool and mysterious and hurry up! I don't want to stand in the sun like this!"

Kuzunoha Renji's eyelids twitched as he heard his wife scolding him. He cleared his throat, looking mysterious like a supreme mage about to perform an ancient ritual.

Renji placed his hand on the cover of the book, and began to cast magic. A faint light radiated from the strange patterns on the cover, running along the lines as if the book was "breathing". The magical power from his hand was transferred into it, causing the characters to shine like stars in the sky.

"Wake up... Kiroku."

Immediately, the book shook slightly, a languid voice rang out from within the book, as if it had just been dragged out of a sleep:

"Haa... finally woke me up? I thought I would have to sleep for a few more centuries and be found in some garbage dump, Renji!

Renji's face darkened, looking as if he had just suffered from severe constipation. He frowned, clutching the book as if he wanted to strangle it immediately.

"Stop talking too much, Kiroku. I have something important to ask, be serious."

"Alright, alright! What kind of farce are you planning to drag me into this time, Renji?"

Renji took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "Kiroku, we've arrived at another world. I need to know the basic information about this place. Where are we now? Is the environment safe? And most importantly, is the language here compatible with ours?"

The book shook slightly, after a minute, its voice rang out, full of laziness and a bit of teasing:

"Ah ah, the standard questions for newcomers here. Okay, let's see... Current location: Tokyo, Japan, on the planet called Earth."

"Environment: Fine, no magic but no deadly toxins other than air pollution, unless you decide to jump onto the highway."

"Language and culture? Oh, lucky for you, this place (Japan) uses 73% of the same language and culture as your old world's country. Congratulations, perhaps the person who brought you here has already taken into account the cultural similarities so there's no need to learn the alphabet again!"

Renji nodded, seemingly satisfied, but before he could say anything, Kiroku continued: "But, for the more detailed matters, you can open it yourself and read it. It would take all day to explain it."

The adventure now truly begins...
