Ding, task completed. Reward received: Blacklight Virus - Armor."

As Alex Carter severed the head of the NetWatch agent, the system notification for task completion sounded as expected.

In the next moment, the previously dormant Blacklight Virus within his body suddenly became agitated.

Tentacles of flesh and blood rapidly emerged from his body, intertwining together.

In just a moment, the once-soft tentacles hardened completely, forming a streamlined shell.

The entire shell encased Alex's body, including his eyes, creating an airtight, perfect protection.

Visual signals passed from the outside of the carapace to his eyes and brain through the virus.

A wondrous, all-encompassing vision without blind spots took shape in Alex's mind.

"This is incredible..."

Johnny appeared beside him, looking at Alex in amazement.

At this moment, he could also perceive some of Alex's sensations through visual sharing.

It was because of this that he expressed such awe.

"Your prosthetic is truly impressive. Which company developed it?"

"Uh..." This question caught Alex off guard.

After a moment of thought, he replied, "It's a product of nature, later acquired by a group called Blackwatch."

He wasn't lying.

In the lore of the Prototype series, the original strain of the Blacklight Virus is one of the main factors promoting biological evolution in nature.

It was only Blackwatch's application of it to humans that led to a series of tragedies.

Johnny nodded, not pressing further, but continued to observe Alex.

"This thing looks solid, but I wonder how durable it is."

"Who knows? I can't just test it on myself, can I?"

Alex shrugged, converting the "armor" back into the virus and reabsorbing it into his body.

"But..."

Looking at the deceased NetWatch agent on the ground, Alex continued, "We'll have a chance to test this 'armor' soon."

...

Alex hummed a tune as he walked out of the Empire Mall.

As soon as he exited, he was picked up by the Voodoo Boys and brought back to the Batty Hotel.

This time, he finally got to meet Brigitte.

Seeing the sour expressions on the faces of Placide and Brigitte, Alex couldn't help but chuckle internally.

It seemed his plan had indeed succeeded.

"You two go out first. I need to speak with him alone."

Brigitte turned to Alex after dismissing Placide.

"Is the Relic with you?"

"Yes, and it's already activated. Extracting it would be quite challenging," Alex replied with a grin.

Brigitte frowned.

"You seem to know quite a bit."

In response, Alex didn't hold back.

"Yes, I know you want to use the consciousness of Silverhand to draw out Alt, and I'm here to see Alt."

"You want to see Alt too? Why?" Brigitte asked.

Alex snorted, "Do the Voodoo Boys always pry into others' private affairs?"

"You just need to know that I can help you find Alt."

"One more thing, I hope you'll answer truthfully."

Alex asked casually, "Evelyn, the woman you sent to steal the chip, you hacked her, didn't you?"

"Steal the chip... You mean that woman? If it's her, yes," Brigitte replied disdainfully.

"She eavesdropped on our conversation and intended to betray us."

"As expected," Alex sighed slightly.

Evelyn, what can I say...

Having ambition isn't a bad thing.

A high-class escort like her, entering luxurious villas regularly, yet having nothing of her own.

Under such disparity, it's natural for ambition and hope to arise.

But the most dangerous scenario is when ambition meets courage without matching ability.

The outcome can be tragic.

No one can be blamed for this.

Even Alex felt that if he were in the Voodoo Boys' shoes, he might have done the same.

...

After confirming some key questions, Brigitte led Alex to the facility beneath the chapel.

An underground tunnel filled with equipment!

Here was the Voodoo Boys' core secret.

Most of their hacking activities were conducted here.

And now, everyone needed to connect from there to find Alt.

After quickly understanding some key procedures, Alex slowly submerged into the ice-water-filled tank.

"Hush...huh..."

The biting cold made Alex feel uncomfortable.

Fortunately, the Blacklight Virus activated promptly, and its strong adaptability quickly alleviated the discomfort.

"You'll soon enter cyberspace, and efficient brain usage will heat your body."

"Without protection like ice water or cooling suits, your brain would burn to a mush."

After explaining this, Brigitte lay back in her hacker chair and signaled the staff to begin.

Alex took a deep breath and slowly closed his eyes.

"Whoosh..."

A strange sense of vertigo and distortion struck.

A construct of dense blue highlights appeared before his eyes.

"This is cyberspace? It's amazing..."

Even though Alex had experienced it countless times in the game, having it become reality still filled him with awe.
