Chapter 1008: Striking an agreement (11)
At the time she let go of it because her life was in danger and also because she believed Liu Jie's worth was much more than that of that treasure. His worth in question here was the sect behind him.
Over the years as their bond grew, Liu Jie divulged a bit about his sect and this included a bit about their domain expert. This included his death and the strength he had in his heyday. In addition, he also shared about the troubles they faced from the Yu clan which was what fueled Fan Ha's plan.
The Starlight Lake Sect despite losing its domain expert was still a sect that had produced a domain expert, as such it had the legacy of one, and if the platform was any indicator, who knew how many resources and reserves they had at their sect thanks to said domain expert.
If that domain expert had been alive, Fan Ha would not have dared scheme, and she would not have dared entertain the thought of joining the Starlight Lake Sect, but with him gone, and his sect in turmoil, there was no better chance for her to worm her way into the sect and leverage her strength and offer for assistance in exchange for resources and a safe cultivation environment.
Surviving alone had long made her weary. It was no longer the adventure she thought it would be when she decided to venture out. The neverending dangers that haunted her for being a rogue cultivator had long eaten away at her adventurous spirit.
She no longer wanted that life, and if it wasn't for her pride and fear of shame she would have long gone back to the deer mountain range but the thought of her valiant sister, kept her from coming back.
After all, they had both promised each other to go make a name for themselves out there before they came back. She had not done that, all she had were painful reminders of how weak she was and how ruthless the world was especially to her kind.
Thus unwilling to brave the challenging waves of the life of a rogue cultivator, Fan Ha had already made a plan in her mind to use the Starlight Lake Sect as her lair. She would use their resources and cover to improve herself till she reached the domain realm. That was the target she had set for herself.
She would use their resources to improve her strength in the domain realm, after which she would leave the sect, roam the continent for four more years, and finally return to the Deer Mountain Range with her head held high.
As for the Starlight Lake Sect, even though she was exploiting them, she was never one to take full advantage of others, thus as her repayment to them, during the time she was at the sect strengthening herself, she would lend them a hand against their enemies.
To her, at the time, as she was planning it all in her mind, the Yu clan didn't seem all that scary. By throwing her lot with the Starlight Lake Sect, she didn't feel like she was coming aboard a sinking ship.
As long as the Yu family didn't have a domain expert, she had confidence in handling whatever they threw her way with her abilities and given enough time, with her foundation and innate talents, provided there were enough resources she was sure at the very least she would step into the late stages of the palace realm, which she had judged would have been more than enough to keep the sect afloat, and if by some luck she managed to reach the domain realm, she had the intention of taking care of their problem once and for all before she left.
She had it all planned in her mind but things changed. For one she underestimated those chasing them for her treasure, and as a result, she delayed letting go of it, and Liu Jie got injured in the process as he saved her from a critical blow.
She was someone who hated to owe others, and she also wasn't one to shirk responsibility. That became the first time she took something personally and then after she joined the Starlight Lake Sect, it became a rolling stone of emotional choices one after another and at the center, acting as the driving force for most of those emotional choices was Meng Jiayi.
She could count on one hand the number of people who could get under his skin like he did. In fact, before Meng Jiayi, there were just three, her sister, and her two disciples the badger and that mischievous bear cub, just those three, and for them, it was because she had grown up with them.
Then came Meng Jiayi, a human who in just six months eroded all rationality from her mind. He knew how to trigger her and push all her buttons and at the same time knew how to make her feel peaceful. She hated being around him because of it but somehow she always found herself where he was, arguing about who knows what.
A few times she even believed he had used some sort of mind-altering spell on her. With her experience with humans and the depths of depravity, they would go to, it wasn't beneath them to use such means. She had seen it firsthand too, but she knew her suspicions were just excuses she made to absolve her of how fearful and mad she felt because of how easily Meng Jiayi could get a rise out of her.
For someone who prided herself on having great self-control, masking her emotions, and facing things with equanimity, no matter how big or small, all that went out the window when Meng Jiayi was involved.
Seeing his carefree face as he sipped his wine, she could feel her rage boiling within her.
"This bastard does it intentionally," she thought whilst tightly clenching her fist when she saw the tiny smirk he had on and the twinkle in one of his eyes.
