Chapter 38: Chapter 38 - Testing a new sword.
When I woke up the next day, I went to the training room to continue my practice.
I know how to forge a high-quality sword, but forging armor is more challenging.
However, if I follow the same process I learned last time, I'll not have any problems. "But then again... I can improve my skills, but I won't be able to rank up like this."
I took mithril from my inventory and placed it in the furnace to heat up. It quickly became incandescent, so I brought it to the anvil and hammered it to shape the breastplate.
CLANK!
CLANK!
CLANK!
As the breastplate took shape, my body became drenched in sweat.
Feeling that it was ready, I cooled the piece and examined it. It looked similar to the breastplate I had forged with Hephaestus's help. I then corrected its imperfections and polished it.
"I wonder if the system only activates when I complete an entire set."
To my disappointment, the system did not activate.
Since I had already started the work, I continued forging until I completed all parts of the armor. Every piece was made of mithril. "I finished faster this time." I smiled, satisfied with the result.
The armor was similar to the first one I had forged with Hephaestus's help.
However, I was surprised when I put it on and received the system notification!
[You have forged a Level 1 Refined Armor]
[The skill 'Protection LV1' has been added to the armor]
"This is it! Armor with a skill. The skill is called 'Protection'! It probably increases the wearer's defense. That means this armor is much better than the first one I forged."
I took the armor off and placed it on the table, analyzing it carefully.
The metal had become shinier, more striking. The armor's design had also changed slightly, but nothing too drastic. "It's a simple armor, but it stands out. This armor could be sold for a high price."
However, I don't want to sell it. I'll use it from now on since it's better than the armor I wore yesterday.
I stored the new armor in the training room's inventory and returned to the furnace to forge a new sword. Unfortunately, I only managed to forge two more refined-rank swords before nightfall.
When I returned to my room, Hephaestus was not waiting for me.
"She's working too much…"
Luckily, I can trust Hephaestus—she's working.
Unlike my ex-girlfriend. I'm sure she went out to have fun with that idiot whenever I was working.
"I thank God for allowing me to kill both of them and disappear without facing any punishment."
Once again, I'm thinking about unnecessary things.
I should leave all of this in the past. I'm thinking too much about my ex-girlfriend—I shouldn't be doing that.
Only weak men dwell on their exes.
And only foolish, spineless men keep thinking about exes who cheated on them.
"But I hate her so much, and I'm so disgusted by her that I keep thinking about her. I can vividly imagine her burning in the fires of hell."
And my current relationship is so good that I can't help but compare.
"But now it's a promise. I won't talk or think about my ex-girlfriend from this moment on. She and that idiot named Igor are dead. They no longer matter."
I closed my eyes and sighed.
I was so exhausted that I ended up falling asleep.
####
I left the house in the morning after informing Hephaestus that I was heading to the dungeon.
I'm wearing the new armor I had forged, which had the skill "Protection LV1." I was also carrying my new sword.
I had brought two swords with me.
The sword I use to enhance my magic and the katana-like sword I recently forged. I want to test their abilities; the best place to do that is inside the dungeon.
Still, on the first floor of the dungeon, I used the new sword to kill a few goblins.
The skill "Heavy Impact LV2" transformed the blade into something like a club. I struck the goblin directly, and its impact was so powerful that its body was shattered.
To my surprise, the attack didn't consume much magic.
Unlike the second skill, "Shadow Slash LV2."
When I activated it, I felt my magic rapidly draining as dark blades formed in the air and launched toward the monsters ahead. It was an incredibly powerful attack.
The monsters were sliced in half, their bodies turning black as if they had rotted instantly. The attack was so strong that the blades continued traveling until they struck the dungeon wall, many meters away.
A dark mark remained where the blades had hit.
"It's a cool but terrifying skill. I feel like this could kill even high-level monsters. But it consumes way too much magic."
I started feeling dizzy, so I stopped walking and leaned against the wall.
I sheathed the sword and grabbed the one with "Magic Boost LV2". The moment I held it, I felt my body lighten.
"It's such a strange skill. Even though weapon skills usually consume magic, this one doesn't. Instead, it replenishes my body with magic. It's like the sword has a built-in generator."
I'm happy I managed to forge a sword with this ability.
"I should look for a sword with the same skill but at a higher level. But didn't the system mention leveling up a sword's skills? I remember reading something like that."
I need to investigate this further.
I still haven't discovered all the functions of the system.
