Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 20: Chapter 19: The Ending Day [Part 1]

Seeing Doraemon, Nobita, and Shizuka's surprised expressions, Dekisugi suddenly blushed—not because he said he was going to draw manga, but because he felt like he was showing off in front of the younger children.

Unknowingly, Dekisugi had come to regard Shizuka and the others as his friends, almost as though he were casually bragging in front of them. The realization made him feel a little self-conscious. He wasn't trying to show off, but his enthusiasm about his manga project had taken him by surprise. He had worked hard on the idea, and it felt good to finally share it, but he didn't want to appear arrogant.

"Does Nobita want to draw manga? It's not that simple. Just don't draw as badly as Jaian's sister," said Shizuka, joking but also a little serious. Nobita wasn't thrilled, especially with Shizuka around. He seized the chance to tease Dekisugi.

"Besides, the manga industry is super competitive. You've seen how polished and popular Lion Mask is, so do you think you can draw manga, Dekisugi?" Nobita pushed on, determined to keep up the teasing. His annoyance stemmed from Dekisugi's closeness with Shizuka, who, as Nobita's future wife, he could never help but feel competitive with. He didn't want Dekisugi to outshine him in any way, and the situation was starting to get under his skin.

"Of course, Nobita," Dekisugi replied confidently. "I've already thought of a theme. It's going to be called Digimon! Here, let me show you the main character."

Although Dekisugi didn't have any drawing materials with him, he quickly sketched a rough image of the main character: Taichi, a boy wearing blue goggles, with his partner Digimon, Agumon, a small dinosaur.

"Digimon?" Shizuka, Doraemon, and Nobita all asked in unison, puzzled by the unfamiliar name.

"Digimon... It's like the pets in the game software you play," Dekisugi explained, his pencil moving swiftly across the paper. "What I'm writing is a world inside data. You may not know it, but computers are already part of this world, shaping things in ways you can't even imagine."

Dekisugi's enthusiasm was evident, and his eyes sparkled as he described the concept. As he spoke, Shizuka, Doraemon, and Nobita leaned in to watch, captivated by his passion and the way he brought the characters to life with just a pencil and paper. Dekisugi's depiction of Taichi was simple but striking—bright-eyed and energetic, with his signature blue goggles and a sense of adventure that was hard to ignore. Behind him stood his Digimon partner, Agumon, a small but fierce dinosaur that seemed to glow with energy.

"He's so cool," said Nobita and Doraemon in awe. Boys naturally liked the image of a strong, cool character, and they could immediately relate to Taichi's heroic vibe.

"He's so cute," Shizuka remarked, smiling as she focused on Agumon, the cute little dinosaur. Shizuka was always drawn to the more endearing aspects of things, and Agumon's small, lovable form quickly won her over.

Dekisugi's drawing was done with impressive skill, capturing the essence of both characters in just a few minutes. Shizuka, Doraemon, and Nobita were quiet for a moment, all of them processing what they had just seen. Dekisugi had presented his idea with such confidence, and his talent was undeniable. It wasn't just about the characters; it was about the world he was creating.

"So, Dekisugi, is this your main character? And what's with this little dinosaur?" asked Doraemon, his curiosity piqued.

Dekisugi smiled, unphased by their surprise. "Yes, his name is Taichi, and the little dinosaur is Agumon. There's a lot more to explain, but I'll show you the full story once I finish drawing all the comics."

Doraemon, always one to express his emotions freely, couldn't help but show his excitement. "Wow, that sounds so exciting! I can't wait to see the manga you draw!"

Shizuka's eyes sparkled with encouragement. "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too. You're really talented at drawing." She gave him a warm, genuine smile, which made Dekisugi's heart flutter just a little. He had always been a little shy around Shizuka, but in this moment, it was nice to see her so interested in his work.

Nobita, who had been watching the others admire Dekisugi's drawing, couldn't hide his jealousy. He quickly jumped in, trying to dismiss Dekisugi's talents.

"Pfft, it's not that impressive. I can draw better than Dekisugi!" Nobita blurted out without thinking, his competitive side flaring up. He hated being in a position where he felt overshadowed, and Dekisugi's skill was definitely making him feel that way. "I could draw manga too, no problem," he added, crossing his arms and pouting.

Dekisugi didn't rise to the bait. He simply smiled and turned his gaze toward the window, noticing the evening sky growing dark. The time had come to leave.

"Hehe, it's getting late. Nobita, Shizuka, and I should head out now. See you tomorrow at school!" Dekisugi said with a casual smile, not wanting to tease Nobita any further. He wasn't interested in getting into a rivalry. All he wanted was to share his project with his friends, and that was enough.

Nobita, embarrassed by his earlier outburst, quickly waved it off. "Oh, right, see you tomorrow, Dekisugi, Shizuka."

Nobita had enough self-awareness to know he wasn't as good as Dekisugi, and the awkwardness was clear. He couldn't wait for them to leave. It was one of those moments where he felt frustrated with himself, knowing that no matter how much he tried to put on a brave face, Dekisugi's skills were undeniable.

As the host, it was only right for Nobita to walk Dekisugi and Shizuka to the door. As they left, Nobita's mother, who had been preparing dinner, noticed them.

"Oh, is Dekisugi and Shizuka going home?" she asked with a smile. She had always liked Dekisugi, and it was clear to her that he and Shizuka had become close friends with Nobita.

Dekisugi and Shizuka paused, bowing slightly in gratitude for the hospitality. Nobita's mother then turned to Nobita with a smile.

"Nobita! What are you doing? Why aren't you seeing off Shizuka and Dekisugi? They helped you with your homework today!" she chided him gently, not understanding why Nobita seemed so distracted.

"I'm coming," Nobita muttered, rubbing the back of his neck in embarrassment. He would have reacted differently if it were just Shizuka, but with Dekisugi there, he couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable. His mom always knew how to make him feel guilty, especially when it came to something as simple as being polite to guests.

With that, Dekisugi and Shizuka made their way out, and Nobita's mother returned to her cooking. Nobita shuffled after them, reluctantly seeing them to the door of the corridor. It was always a bit awkward for him, but he did his best. As they reached the door, he gave them a final, half-hearted wave.

"Take care," he muttered, not feeling quite as confident as he usually did.

Dekisugi and Shizuka waved back, with Shizuka giving him a soft, encouraging smile. "See you tomorrow, Nobita."

As the door closed behind them, Nobita let out a deep sigh. The day had been full of ups and downs, and he couldn't help but feel a little more pressure building up inside him. Dekisugi was definitely someone to look up to, and though it frustrated him, Nobita also knew that he had to try harder to keep up. Tomorrow was a new day, and he was determined to figure out how to outshine Dekisugi once again—at least in his own mind.
