Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Electrolux Awakens
"Hm? Someone's coming."
The first Great Spirit suddenly spoke.
"It's probably just those Holy Servants coming to see the souls of their loved ones. Ignore them, keep drinking."
The second Great Spirit waved a hand dismissively, showing no concern.
"No, it's the presence of the living."
At this moment, Jiang Jue stepped down from the passageway.
The moment the first Great Spirit saw Jiang Jue, his mind buzzed, and the wine cup in his hand slipped to the ground.
Since Jiang Jue had gone to study at the Sun-Moon Royal Soul Engineering Academy, the higher-ups had informed him that Nana, who was also at the academy, was to follow Jiang Jue's orders.
Because of this, the first Great Spirit had seen Jiang Jue's portrait before and now immediately recognized him.
"Greetings, Holy Son."
The first Great Spirit hurriedly fell to the ground in prostration and tugged at the second Great Spirit beside him.
"Hey, big brother, what are you doing?"
The second Great Spirit, yanked forcefully, looked bewildered.
"You fool!"
The first Great Spirit cursed under his breath. Didn't he hear him address the guest as "Holy Son"?
"Holy Son? Holy Son!"
The second Great Spirit muttered the words, his eyes widening as clarity returned to his gaze.
In an instant, he slid to his knees and loudly cried out, "Holy Son!"
Normally, alcohol couldn't numb a Soul Master's senses, but these two had deliberately refrained from using their soul power to expel the intoxication, simply to enjoy that tipsy feeling.
Jiang Jue paid them no mind and instead turned to Nana beside him. "Go ahead. Retrieve your parents' souls."
Tears welled up in Nana's eyes. She cast a grateful look at Jiang Jue before hurrying toward a small door near the two Great Spirits.
"Great Spirit" was merely a title. They were formerly known as the disciples of the Holy Spirit, ranking higher than the Holy Servants like Nana.
Jiang Jue casually approached the two Great Spirits and surveyed the surroundings.
The two remained prostrate, motionless.
Before long, Nana returned, holding a yellow glass orb in her hands. Her eyes were swollen, and her face was streaked with tears.
"Let's go."
Jiang Jue gave a simple command and began ascending.
Nana clutched the orb containing her parents' souls tightly and quickly followed.
Watching them depart, the first Great Spirit sneaked a glance upward.
"Big brother, do you think we'll get promoted this time?"
The second Great Spirit asked in a whisper.
"Promoted? With what? Your empty head? You black out after just a bit of drinking."
The first Great Spirit glared at him in frustration.
"Drinking has truly ruined me. From now on, I swear off alcohol."
…
"Master, I, Nana, have no way to repay this kindness in this life. I vow to follow you to the death."
As soon as they stepped out of the Holy Spirit Church's branch courtyard, Nana knelt before Jiang Jue.
Jiang Jue helped her up with one hand and asked, "What do you plan to do with your parents' souls?"
"I plan to let them naturally disperse into the world, so they no longer have to suffer."
Tears streamed down Nana's face as she spoke.
"This is your parents' souls. Do as you see fit."
Hearing Jiang Jue's words, Nana gathered purple soul power in her hands and forcefully smashed the glass orb.
Crack!
A crisp sound rang out as a crack appeared in the orb. Two souls burst forth, scrambling to escape.
"Hm? They've turned into vengeful spirits."
Jiang Jue's brows furrowed, and a Soul Refining Banner appeared in his hand.
Meanwhile, Nana looked as if she had lost her soul, her face turning deathly pale.
She couldn't believe that her parents had already turned into mindless vengeful spirits, consumed only by hatred.
Jiang Jue, however, was not surprised. After all, her parents' souls had been imprisoned for so many years, frequently tortured. If they hadn't turned into vengeful spirits, that would have been strange.
Back then, Huo Yuhao had used necromantic magic to purify such spirits, temporarily restoring their clarity.
Jiang Jue didn't have necromantic magic, but he had the Soul Refining Banner. If necessary, he could refine them on the spot.
As the two vengeful spirits lunged at him, Jiang Jue prepared to activate his technique.
"Kid, let this old man handle it."
"Such familiar necromantic energy."
A deep, aged voice suddenly echoed in Jiang Jue's mind.
"Electrolux is awake!"
Jiang Jue's expression brightened as he sensed the gray pearl in his spiritual sea transforming into a shadowy gray figure.
Buzz!
A gray halo emerged from Jiang Jue's body, turning his eyes a ghostly gray as a divine presence emanated from him.
An indescribable aura spread out. Beside him, Nana was so overwhelmed that she fainted.
Jiang Jue raised his right hand, half-clenching it toward the two vengeful spirits charging at him.
"How dare you act up in the presence of a necromancer?"
"Be purified!"
A stream of gray energy flowed from Jiang Jue's palm, enveloping the spirits.
"Aaaahhh!"
The spirits let out wretched screams as wisps of black mist drifted from their bodies.
Slowly, their rage dissipated. Their forms became more transparent, and their twisted faces relaxed.
"Kid, I've already purified these two spirits. In a short while, they will naturally return to the world."
Electrolux's voice echoed in Jiang Jue's mind.
As his words fell, the gray halo around Jiang Jue disappeared, and his eyes returned to their normal color.
Jiang Jue knelt down and gently roused the unconscious Nana.
"Dad… Mom…"
Nana murmured incoherently as her eyes fluttered open.
"Go to them. I've removed their resentment. They will soon return to the world. If you have anything to say, say it now."
Nana stood up and looked at the two spirits floating before her. Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
Jiang Jue, however, did not linger to watch and instead walked off into the distance.
"Who are you?"
Jiang Jue asked in his spiritual sea. He knew the answer but had to act ignorant.
"I am Electrolux, but now, I am nothing more than a shattered remnant of my former self."
Electrolux's voice carried an indescribable sense of sorrow.
"A god?"
Jiang Jue's voice feigned astonishment.
"I was merely a man who refused to become a god."
Electrolux slowly shook his head, his gaze deep and distant.
"Kid, you saved my remnant spirit, thanks to that Life Gold you possess."
"Find a safe place soon. I will grant you a great opportunity and help you unleash the full potential of your Life Gold."
With those words, Electrolux reverted to his gray pearl form.
His spirit was still too unstable.
…
Meanwhile, in the third laboratory.
Xuan Ziwen was still studying the soul tool milk bottle, his desk buried under a heap of sketches.
"Why does soul power dissipate so much? Even adding two core arrays doesn't work?"
Xuan Ziwen rubbed his throbbing temples, setting the milk bottle down for a break.
Jiang Jue's soul tool gun lay securely in a box not far from him.
"Let's test the power of Jiang Jue's first-tier soul tool."
Xuan Ziwen picked up the soul tool gun and walked to the testing area.
"This thing has two core arrays—one for storage and one for acceleration."
"But why is the internal structure so strange?"
"There's no place to inject soul power?"
He murmured in confusion.
Soon, he noticed something—the trigger mechanism.
Deciding to test it, he aimed and pulled the trigger.
Bang!
A crisp gunshot rang out, followed by a series of sharp explosions fifty meters away. Metal powder scattered against the alloy wall.
"This is…"
Xuan Ziwen's eyes gleamed.
It didn't require soul power?
Excited, he pulled the trigger again while probing the gun's internals with his spirit.
As he fired, the storage array went into overdrive.
Crackle—Boom!
A burst of fire erupted, and smoke rose from the gun as it shattered into two pieces.
Xuan Ziwen was dumbfounded.
"…It exploded?!"
