Douluo Dalu 3: Legend of the White Fox

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Xia Yi

Do you know how a ten-year-old fox spirit in the Star Dou Forest of the Douluo Continent captures a hundred-year-old Soft-Bone Rabbit?

First, block all the rabbit holes, leaving only two exits—one in the front and one in the back. Then, gather some dry leaves and rub them rapidly between your small paws. With the aid of a ten -year cultivation's soul power, it won't take long to create a spark. Toss the fire into the front exit.

Finally, just stand by the back exit with a stick. In about fifteen minutes, you'll have a whole nest of rabbits.

This ten-year-old fox calls himself Xia Yi. He doesn't know why he chose this name or even what a name is. He just feels that's what he should be called.

Xia Yi was in a good mood today. He caught two hundred-year-old Soft-Bone Rabbits and let the others go.

After cleaning the rabbits' innards by a creek, Xia Yi lit a fire, roasted the rabbits until they were golden brown, and then began devouring them hungrily.

If anyone saw this scene, they'd be scared out of their wits—when did ten-year-old soul beasts become this intelligent?

"Crack!"

The sound of a snapping branch interrupted Xia Yi's feast. Instantly alert, he extinguished the fire in the creek and erased all traces of his presence. Then, he darted into a nearby thicket, moving toward the source of the sound.

"A human, just a child, probably with no more than two soul rings. I can take him." Xia Yi crouched atop a towering tree, his gaze growing icy.

He had no idea that from this day forward, his fate would be irrevocably changed.

"Miss Gu Yue, are you planning to enter the Star Dou Forest?"

A dam, a massive metallic dam, towering over three hundred meters high. Above the dam, a near-transparent light barrier extended into the sky.

The entire dam resembled a giant cage, seemingly imprisoning something terrifying.

Outside the cage, dozens of pitch-black mechas, each over ten meters tall, patrolled ceaselessly, exuding an aura of lethal power that deterred anyone from approaching.

The girl called Gu Yue ignored the inquiry. She silently gazed at the endless metallic cage, her small fists clenched tightly. The force of her grip turned her pale, delicate hands even whiter due to poor circulation.

Gu Yue appeared to be around ten years old. She wasn't particularly stunning, but her features were fresh and clean. Her black hair and eyes, combined with a well-proportioned figure, made her stand out among her peers. Her large, bright eyes radiated determination.

"Miss Gu Yue, are you planning to enter the Star Dou Forest?" A black mecha descended slowly before her, its pilot showing no anger at her disregard but bowing respectfully instead.

Although their strength far exceeded Gu Yue's, her status in the Spirit Pagoda was unattainable for them. Offending her would spell disaster.

Gu Yue nodded slightly without speaking, handing over a card that symbolized her identity.

The mecha scanned her card, and an electronic voice sounded, "Gu Yue, identity confirmed. Passage granted."

As a series of metallic gates opened, Gu Yue slowly stepped into the massive cage.

To her surprise, inside the colossal cage was a vibrant primeval forest. Towering ancient trees reached for the heavens, and the air was filled with the sounds of chirping birds and insects.

The forest's unique natural fragrance was intoxicating.

Indeed, this was the Star Dou Forest—a land that had existed since the Dragon God's descent upon the continent, boasting a legacy of over a million years.

Once inside, Gu Yue loosened her clenched fists and began to greedily absorb the forest's natural essence. After a moment, she resumed her journey deeper into the forest.

Feeling at home in the Star Dou Forest, Gu Yue lowered her guard completely. She didn't even notice when she stepped on a branch, snapping it.

Little did she know that this seemingly insignificant act nearly cost her life.

Just as Xia Yi's fate was about to change drastically, so too was Gu Yue's—today might very well become her nightmare.

"Chirp!"

A pained sound caught Gu Yue's attention. She turned her head to see a small white fox, about the size of a house cat, hanging in midair not far from her.

Upon closer inspection, Gu Yue realized the fox's legs were ensnared by vines, which were looped over a branch ten meters above the ground. The more the fox struggled, the tighter the vines became.

"A ten year-old little fox? Poor thing." Gu Yue sighed softly, shaking her head. "What can I say? I am your lord, after all."

With a flick of her wrist, a wind blade shot forth, severing the vine. She leaped gracefully, catching the falling fox with precision.

In her arms, Gu Yue noticed how beautiful the fox was. Its fur, white as jade, seemed almost divine. Its luminous phoenix eyes gazed at her, carrying a mesmerizing charm that made Gu Yue feel a tinge of self-doubt—a beauty so enchanting it could topple kingdoms.

However, the fox's flaw was apparent: its back was bare, with no tail to be seen.

"Did another soul beast bite it off?" Gu Yue murmured, cradling the fox. "Well, since I won't see Wulin for a month during this break, I'll keep you around to keep me company."

At the thought of Tang Wulin, Gu Yue's face lit up with a sweet smile.

But just as she let her guard down, the fox sprang into action. Its hind legs pressed against her chest, claws extended to slash at her throat.

Yes, this fox was none other than Xia Yi. He had been waiting for this exact moment to strike a killing blow.

He had used this move before to kill a three-ringed soul master instantly.

But today, Xia Yi miscalculated.

Gu Yue's reaction was lightning-fast, far beyond any ordinary three-ringed soul master. Her soul power surged, and while there wasn't time to use a soul skill, her two-ringed rank gave her the strength to shake Xia Yi off her with ease.

But Xia Yi was no ordinary ten-year-old soul beast. His combat instincts were honed to perfection. As Gu Yue unleashed her soul power, he clung to her clothes and flipped onto her back.

"Ah!" Gu Yue let out a piercing scream as her neck burned with pain, blood streaming uncontrollably.

Though she managed to avoid Xia Yi's claws slicing her throat, the attack left a mark.

"Insubordination will not be tolerated!" Gu Yue fumed. She was enraged by Xia Yi's audacity and lack of boundaries.

Of course, Xia Yi, raised in the Star Dou Forest, couldn't possibly understand such notions. To him, killing the "human" before him was the only goal.
