Lin Ye gritted his teeth as the distance between him and the blood infant shrank. Earlier, he had used Phantom Shadow—his third spirit ability—to empower Hu Liena and catch the blood infant off guard. Now, with the skill still cooling down, he was left without its 200% speed boost to escape.

Though his third ability was unavailable, Lin Ye still had his second spirit ability, which also enhanced his speed. Activating it, his pace surged, widening the gap between him and the blood infant.

A weak but determined voice suddenly came from his arms. It was Hu Liena, who had regained consciousness.

"Let you go? Not a chance!"

Though relieved to see Hu Liena awake, Lin Ye frowned deeply at her words and snapped, "As long as I can still run, I won't abandon you. What kind of man would I be if I did?"

"But if he catches up, you won't be able to protect me in my current condition!"

Despite her pale complexion, Hu Liena stared back at Lin Ye stubbornly, refusing to back down.

"Don't worry. If he pushes me too far, I'll kill him."

A flicker of killing intent flashed in Lin Ye's eyes.

He still had two Titled Douluo Experience Cards. If he managed to evade the blood infant long enough, the Spirit Hall elders could deal with it. But if it came down to it, he would use one of the cards to ensure Hu Liena's safety.

"Lin Ye, don't joke around! That thing is a Spirit King! And with its agility, even with your twin martial spirits, you won't be able to protect me!"

Hu Liena's frustration boiled over as she glared at him.

My grandfather always taught me that a man must never let his wife come to harm. If someone has to stay behind, it'll be me!"

Hu Liena's pale face flushed red at his declaration, the contrast making her blush even more striking.

Lin Ye raised an eyebrow, his tone challenging.

However, the blood infant was relentless, rapidly closing the distance again. Lin Ye made up his mind.

"Can you move now? If so, I'll draw him away while you escape!"

He resolved to stay behind and buy Hu Liena time to flee. Though the blood infant's strength was formidable, Lin Ye wasn't completely powerless. With the right opportunity, he might even defeat it without using his Titled Douluo cards.

"You're staying behind? Are you insane?! That thing is a Spirit King and specializes in soul attacks! Even when you defeated Yan before, it was a close call. Now you're up against a Spirit King!"

Hu Liena's anxiety spiked at his decision.

Before parting, Hu Liena hugged him tightly, memorizing his scent as if this might be their last moment together.

"Lin Ye... this is the second time you've saved me. I used to wonder if my feelings for you were just gratitude or because you're the Holy Son. But now I understand. Lin Ye, don't die. If you survive... I'll marry you."

Taking a deep breath, Hu Liena released him, her gaze unwaveringly serious as she looked into his eyes.
