Chapter 1: Chapter 1: My Martial Soul, Luo Sanpao – Douluo Continent
Wuhun City.
The annual Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony was being held in the sunny Wuhun City Square.
"Wang An, Martial Soul: Rock Armor Wild Boar, Innate Soul Power Level 5!"
"Xie Miaomiao, Martial Soul: Iron Tooth Grass, Innate Soul Power Level 4!"
"Chen Tianhu, Martial Soul: Red Flame Demon Tiger, Innate Soul Power Level 7!"
...
On a high platform, a red-robed cardinal presided over the Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony.
In the queue, a group of boys and girls chatted excitedly, speculating about the martial souls they would awaken.
However, among them stood a well-proportioned boy with short golden hair and a handsome face, his expression calm and composed. His name was Gu Han, and he was a time traveler.
Gu Han didn't know why he had traveled through time. He only remembered that before his journey, he had been catching up on the latest episodes of the Douluo Continent anime. Exhausted from watching, he had taken a nap, only to wake up as a baby in the Wuhun City Orphanage.
Fortunately, he had ended up in the orphanage of Wuhun City. Otherwise, Gu Han suspected he might have struggled to even secure food and warm clothing in this world, much like the protagonist, Tang San.
'I wonder what martial soul I'll awaken?' Gu Han thought silently as he watched the others on the platform.
Although he was an orphan in Wuhun City, unlike most of the other orphans, Gu Han's parents had not been spirit masters of the Spirit Hall. According to the orphanage director, he had been rescued from an evil spirit master's lair by the Holy Light Angel Enforcement Team of the Spirit Hall.
When Gu Han heard about the evil spirit masters, he was stunned. He remembered that in the novels, evil spirit masters only appeared in the second installment of Douluo Dalu and not in the first. He hadn't expected them to exist in this timeline as well.
But upon reflection, it made sense. Evil spirit masters were born from martial soul mutations, and martial soul mutations had always existed. It wasn't that evil spirit masters didn't exist in the first installment of Douluo Dalu—they had simply been suppressed by the Spirit Hall, preventing them from surfacing. In the second installment, without the Spirit Hall's suppression and with Shrek Academy unable to contain them, evil spirit masters had run rampant and become widely known.
Since Gu Han had been rescued from an evil spirit master's lair, he assumed his parents had been ordinary civilians, not spirit masters. According to the rules of Douluo Dalu, this meant his chances of becoming a spirit master were slim.
Knowing this, Gu Han held no hope for awakening a powerful martial soul.
'Don't all time travelers have golden fingers? It would be great if I could get a system!' Gu Han thought wistfully.
As a time traveler, he was already six years old and about to awaken his martial soul, yet he still hadn't received any special advantage. The internet had lied to him!
After waiting for several hours, it was finally Gu Han's turn to step onto the platform for his martial soul awakening.
Following the cardinal's instructions, Gu Han climbed onto the high platform, entered the martial soul awakening array, and closed his eyes.
The cardinal injected soul power into the array, which was composed of six black stones arranged in a hexagram. Suddenly, countless golden light particles emerged from the stones and poured into Gu Han's body.
A warm current flowed through him, and in his mind, a mechanical voice rang out:
[Ding! Active energy detected and being absorbed. The Tianyan System is initializing: 1%, 2%, 3%... 100%!]
[System activation complete. Welcome to the Tianyan System!]
What? A system?!
Hearing the mechanical voice, Gu Han was both shocked and elated. Finally, you're here! Do you know how long I've waited for you?!
At that moment, the cardinal's low voice interrupted his thoughts: "Summon your martial soul!"
Gu Han, who had already sensed the martial soul within him, opened his eyes and focused on the inexplicable connection. With a flash of purple light, a peculiar creature appeared before him.
It was a pig-like creature, small in size, covered in light purple fur, with wide ears, a slightly plump body, and a pair of deep blue eyes that sparkled with intelligence. As soon as it appeared, the creature let out a cheerful "Laolao!" and affectionately rubbed against Gu Han's legs.
Is this Luo Sanpao?! Gu Han was stunned.
Shouldn't his parents in this life have been ordinary civilians? How could his martial soul be the same as Yu Xiaogang's infamous Luo Sanpao? Could one of his parents have been a spirit master from the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus family?
The cardinal was equally shocked. What kind of beast spirit is this? How can it have a physical form and move on its own?
In the VIP seating area, Bibi Dong, seated on the highest throne, trembled as she saw Luo Sanpao appear. Dressed in a dark purple robe, wearing a nine-curved purple gold crown, and holding a papal scepter adorned with dazzling gems, she was the picture of elegance and authority. Her delicate features contorted with a mix of emotions—nostalgia, pain, and shock.
"Your Majesty the Pope," Ju Douluo Yue Guan whispered beside her, "shall I arrange for the child to meet you?"
Bibi Dong didn't respond immediately. Instead, she clenched the papal scepter tightly, her eyes fixed on Luo Sanpao and Gu Han in the square. After a long pause, she took a deep breath and regained her composure.
"Bring him to me. I'll wait in the pavilion behind," she said calmly.
...
Back in the square, the cardinal, still baffled by Luo Sanpao, handed Gu Han a dark blue soul power test crystal ball. "Kid, your martial soul is... unique. Let's test your soul power."
Gu Han sighed, already resigned to the result. He knew that Luo Sanpao was the degraded form of the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus martial soul, resulting from a failed evolution into the Golden Holy Dragon. Even Yu Xiaogang, the young master of the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Clan, had only half a level of innate soul power despite enjoying the best resources. As an orphan, Gu Han considered himself lucky if he had even 0.25 levels.
The test confirmed his expectations.
"You have... a quarter level of innate soul power," the cardinal said, his expression strange. The crystal ball had emitted almost no light.
The cardinal was at a loss for words. In all his years, he had never seen someone with such low innate soul power.
In the audience, the other orphans, who had always been jealous of Gu Han, began to mock him.
"Didn't the director say he was a child prodigy? This martial soul is practically useless!"
"That's right! A waste is still a waste, no matter how smart he is!"
Gu Han ignored their taunts. With the system now activated, he was far from being a failure like Yu Xiaogang. Having read the Douluo Continent series in his previous life, he knew exactly how to evolve Luo Sanpao's martial soul.
