Mu Chen stepped out of the inn as the sky darkened.

Currently staying as a guest at the Xiao Clan, he had a simple meal outside and took a stroll through the night market before heading back to the Xiao Clan residence. Upon returning to the quadrangle courtyard where Gu Xun'er resided, he noticed the area was shrouded in darkness.

"Looks like Xun'er has gone to sleep," Mu Chen thought to himself as he entered the courtyard.

However, after taking just a few steps, he sensed something amiss. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a figure sitting silently in the shadows.

"An assassin?" Mu Chen's instincts, honed in the Douluo Continent, immediately kicked in. He assumed a defensive posture, and his Di State soul power surged forth like a tidal wave, enveloping the mysterious figure.

Under the pressure of his soul force, the figure's face turned pale. The person looked at Mu Chen with wide, incredulous eyes.

"Xun'er???" Mu Chen froze. Upon seeing her face clearly, he immediately withdrew his soul force.

"What terrifying soul power!" From the shadows, Ling Ying, a Dou Huang-level expert assigned to protect Xun'er, couldn't help but mutter in awe. For a brief moment, he thought Mu Chen meant harm to Gu Xun'er and had prepared to intervene, only to find himself completely immobilized, as though frozen in place.

"Xun'er?" Mu Chen approached the figure. Now certain it was Gu Xun'er, he relaxed.

She was sitting on a stone bench in the courtyard, silent and still. Without any lights lit and the dim surroundings concealing her presence, Mu Chen had mistaken her for an intruder.

Gu Xun'er remained quiet, her gaze fixed on Mu Chen with a mix of shock and disbelief. She hadn't expected someone so young to possess such overwhelming soul power. If Mu Chen had harbored ill intentions, a mere thought would have been enough to kill her.

"Why are you sitting here all alone, Xun'er?" Mu Chen asked casually as he plopped down on the stone bench beside her.

"What is your cultivation level?" Xun'er finally spoke, breaking her silence since Mu Chen's arrival.

"Cultivation level? Dou Qi Level Five," Mu Chen replied nonchalantly.

"I mean your soul realm," Xun'er clarified.

"Ah, Di State," Mu Chen answered with a faint smile.

"Di State?" Xun'er's expression shifted to one of understanding. The aura Mu Chen had just displayed was indeed similar to that of her father, Gu Yuan. She didn't doubt his claim.

"Yes," Mu Chen nodded. He observed the beautiful girl before him, noting the lingering unease caused by her father's actions. Since he was now in the Battle Through the Heavens world, he was determined to pursue this remarkable woman.

"Are you still upset that your father left you here?" Mu Chen asked after a moment of thought.

Xun'er glanced at him and nodded lightly.

"Your father did it for your own good," Mu Chen began. "The Gu Clan is one of the Ancient Eight Clans, and as the daughter of the clan leader, you stand out too much. Given the tense relationship between the Gu Clan and the Hun Clan, staying within the clan would only expose you to greater danger. By sending you here, your father was protecting you."

"But he never asked if it's what I wanted," Xun'er finally voiced her frustration.

"From your perspective, your father's actions might seem cruel," Mu Chen said gently. "But from his point of view, it was the right decision. You can resent him, but you should also try to understand him. Within the Gu Clan, your identity would bring endless flattery and deceit. Here, in Wu Tan City, where no one knows who you truly are, you can have a childhood worth remembering."

"You don't understand," Xun'er said softly. "My father's motives aren't that simple."

"You... You're quite clever," Xun'er admitted. "Then can you guess the other reason my father sent me here?"

Mu Chen chuckled and said meaningfully, "As a Nine-Star Dou Saint, your father has long been restless at his current level. He seeks a way to take the next step."

Xun'er was visibly shocked.

Despite her youth, Xun'er was intelligent and had been privy to her father's plans. Gu Yuan had remained at the Nine-Star Dou Saint level for many years. To advance further and become a Dou Di, he needed to find the secret hidden in the tomb of the last Dou Di. This secret was linked to the fragments of the Tuoshe Ancient Emperor's Jade, one of which was held by the Xiao Clan.

"Should I follow my father's orders?" Xun'er asked hesitantly. The thought of stealing the jade fragment from the Xiao Clan felt like a betrayal, something her pure heart struggled to accept.

"Can I call you Xun'er?" Mu Chen asked.

Xun'er nodded.

"Xun'er, thanks to you, I have a place to stay temporarily. To repay you, I'll help you complete your task," Mu Chen said with a smile.

"You're going to steal it?" Xun'er frowned, her gaze filled with doubt.

Mu Chen chuckled. "I'm a Di State soul cultivator. Do you think I would stoop to such a dishonorable act? That would tarnish my reputation."

"Then how do you plan to obtain it? Do you think Uncle Xiao Zhan will just hand it over to you?" Xun'er asked skeptically.

"Exactly," Mu Chen said, patting her head with a smile. "I'll make Xiao Zhan willingly offer it to me with both hands."
