Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Dr. Omori
The remaining pirates were utterly terrified. Their knowledge of navigation was superficial at best, and they had only followed Yamiru's lead to stay alive.
For over two months, they had drifted aimlessly at sea, their sense of direction completely lost. The pressure of their predicament had been steadily mounting, and now, realizing they had sailed into the infamous territory of the monstrous super shark, their emotions erupted into full-blown panic.
When the massive shark broke through the surface, its size dwarfed the pirate ship entirely. Its gaping maw tore a massive hole in the bow, and seawater rushed in with a deafening roar.
"Ahhh!"
The pirates scrambled toward the stern, but as the bow sank further, the stern began to rise, sending them sliding back in a desperate, chaotic dance.
Boom! Boom! Boom! The super shark relentlessly rammed the sinking vessel.
Zanpa's face had turned ashen with fear. He muttered to himself, "I remember now… I heard about this during my trip. There's a mysterious territory in the southern seas ruled by this giant shark. Even massive cargo ships avoid coming near…" A sudden jolt threw him off balance, and he tumbled heavily to the deck.
Yamiru leapt over, gripping the slanted ship's edge with one hand while catching Zanpa by the ankle before he could plunge into the ocean — and the shark's waiting jaws.
"Ah… ah… ah…" Zanpa panted, utterly paralyzed with terror. His thoughts were muddled, and he struggled to form coherent words. Looking at Yamiru — a boy who seemed no older than eleven or twelve — he found it unbelievable. How could anyone remain calm in such a situation? "Do you… do you have a plan? For dealing with a shark bigger than a house?" he asked hopefully.
"Of course not," Yamiru replied, eyeing him curiously. The bow continued to tilt downward, and the rising seawater nearly brushed the back of Zanpa's head. "A monster of this size? With my current strength, there's no way I could handle it. Just give up. Stop dreaming."
"Then why are you so calm?!" Zanpa shouted, his voice cracking as the sound of swirling waves grew louder behind him. "Think of something — anything!"
"A plan, huh…" Yamiru mused. Suddenly, his expression brightened. "I've got it!"
"Quickly!"
"Hold on, I need to get into the right mindset first…"
"What?! What mindset?!"
"By recalling the last time I came close to death. You know, trying to recreate that particular state of mind… That fleeting moment when all kinds of emotions surged together, forming a complex and unique feeling. Even though I'm more mature now, it's still hard to reproduce that exact sensation. It's like a flash of inspiration, like—"
"Yamiru, my dear brother, stop trying to explain and just do whatever it is already!"
"Explaining it to you is part of the process!" Yamiru said, then nodded to himself. "Alright, I think I've got it. Now—"
Yamiru, standing at the sinking bow of the ship, shouted toward the night sky, "Flying Nimbus!"
The sky remained silent.
"Oh well," Yamiru muttered, disappointed. "Seems like that's not going to work."
"What?!" Zanpa was dumbfounded. "That was your big plan?!"
Before they could react further, the massive shadow of the super shark in the water grew larger. It surged upward again, the pressure from its ascent pushing the half-destroyed pirate ship upward. The gigantic black figure leaped out of the water, its sheer size even more terrifying than before. Its movement was impossibly agile, and its jaws, filled with razor-sharp teeth, came crashing down.
"This is it..." Zanpa, dangling upside down, stared helplessly at the horrifying maw that blocked out his entire view.
"Never thought it'd end like this," Yamiru said wistfully, gazing up at the foul-smelling jaws descending toward him. Just as the shark was about to bite down, he let go of Zanpa's ankle.
At that moment, a smaller shark shot out of the water like a missile, slamming into the side of the super shark's mouth.
In an instant, golden light flickered in Yamiru's eyes. He unleashed his strength and grabbed Zanpa's ankle again, dragging him as they both plunged into the sea.
Boom! The smaller shark's impact caused the super shark to veer off course, its jaws snapping shut at an angle. The super shark and its smaller counterpart crashed into the sinking pirate ship, completely crushing it beneath their weight. The ship sank into the ocean, creating a massive whirlpool.
Recovering from the unexpected attack, the super shark's enormous, vicious eyes filled with fury as it fixated on its smaller challenger. Effortlessly navigating the chaotic whirlpool, the massive predator turned its attention to the other shark.
Struggling to maintain balance in the turbulent waters, Yamiru and Zanpa fought to stay afloat. Yamiru held his breath, squinting through the churning sea to get a clear view of the smaller shark. "Once again, you're helping me, huh?" Yamiru thought as he watched the smaller shark, dwarfed by the super shark.
The smaller shark turned briefly, nodding at Yamiru before facing the super shark again, issuing a challenge.
Yamiru glanced at the unconscious Zanpa in his grasp. Summoning all his strength, he swam toward the distant island he had spotted earlier. Behind him, the fierce battle between the two sharks stirred the sea into chaos. As the turbulence gradually subsided, Yamiru finally reached the shore. With one final effort, he threw Zanpa onto the sand before collapsing beside him.
"Ha... ha... ha..." Yamiru gasped for air. The eternal night sky above remained indifferent, oblivious to the life-and-death struggle that had just unfolded beneath it.
However, the silence beside him felt unnerving. Realizing something was wrong, Yamiru forced himself up and placed his hands on Zanpa's chest, rhythmically pressing down to perform CPR.
"Terrible technique, kid," a voice suddenly called out from nearby.
Startled, Yamiru whipped his head toward the source of the voice.
A soft "hmm" of surprise came from the figure as it approached under the dim light of the stars. The man turned out to be an elderly bald-headed man wearing a white tank top, oversized shorts, and flip-flops. A sparse tuft of white hair stuck out atop his head like an onion sprout. A vertical scar ran across his left eyebrow, and heavy dark circles underlined his eyes, giving his entire face a gloomy, sullen expression.
Dr. Omori lived alone on this miniature, secluded island. That night, the unusual, massive waves from the sea had caught his attention. Looking to relieve the frustrations of his research, he decided to take a stroll and see if something was happening offshore. To his surprise, he found a young boy on the beach performing CPR on a middle-aged man. When the boy turned to him, the sight of those striking golden eyes startled Dr. Omori.
"What peculiar eyes..." the old doctor muttered as he approached. Squatting down next to Yamiru, he naturally took over the rescue effort. Using precise and professional techniques, he diligently performed CPR. After Zanpa coughed up several mouthfuls of seawater, Dr. Omori even administered a few rounds of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Watching from the side, Yamiru couldn't help but think, This old man has impressive lung capacity for his age. He seems pretty robust.

"Waaah!"
Zanpa jolted awake, gasping for air. As he regained his senses, he realized he was sitting indoors under a bright overhead light. Looking around, he noticed the space seemed to be a traditional wooden room with an old tatami mat covering the floor. There was also a faint, distinctive scent commonly associated with the living quarters of elderly people.
"You're finally awake," a voice said. At the door, the old man entered with a steaming cup of tea and placed it beside Zanpa.
"Uh… yes," Zanpa replied, still dazed. He had no idea what had happened but instinctively took a sip of the tea to calm himself. The tea was incredibly mild and slightly bitter, but its warmth was comforting. Holding the hot cup, he asked, "Did you save me?"
Dr. Omori, with a stern expression, replied, "I didn't save you. I simply found you two."
"Ah!" Zanpa exclaimed, suddenly remembering. "What about Yamiru? Is he safe? Where is he?"
Dr. Omori took a small sip of tea and replied, "That boy has been staying at the beach. He insisted on making sure a certain friend was safe."
