Dragon Ball Human

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Escape 1

The Golden Veil could actually see the "humanoid" shapes behind the wall!

If this were the world of Hunter x Hunter, the humanoid forms seen by the Golden Veil would undoubtedly be the aura of a nen user. In the Naruto world, it would be a ninja's chakra. In the Saint Seiya world, it would be the cosmos. In the One Piece world, it would be the special energy sources of the three forms of Haki. In a world without supernatural phenomena, it might just be human heat radiation or energy fields...

But in this Dragon Ball world, there was no doubt that this was Ki—the innate potential energy all living beings are born with.

Only the greatest martial artists could, through strenuous mental cultivation, gradually learn how to manipulate and even perceive this power.

Now, Yamiru's Golden Veil had undergone some kind of transformation due to his will, allowing him to perceive others' Ki through the wall! This was truly an incredible development.

It was as if, without ever mastering the technique of sensing Ki, Yamiru's eyes had gained a radar-like function.

"This ability came at just the right time!"

Yamiru, immersed in the green nutrient solution, felt a surge of excitement within.

There were only two ways for him to escape from the Red Ribbon Army.

The first, the most direct, was to do what little Goku from the manga would do—rely on brute force to break out.

Who cares about the details? See a person, hit a person; see a gun, smash a gun; if a missile came, he could probably kick it back. But clearly, Yamiru didn't possess this kind of power yet.

Right now, his strength was only slightly superior to that of the young Goku who had just left the mountains with Bulma, before he learned the Kamehameha from Master Roshi. And that's excluding Goku's Saiyan durability, of course. With his current combat ability, he simply couldn't fight his way out of Dr. Gero's lab in the Red Ribbon Army.

Otherwise, the Red Ribbon Army wouldn't have found even Master Roshi troublesome.

The thought of breaking through by force was simply unrealistic—who knew how many powerful members of the Red Ribbon Army he might encounter.

The other option, of course, was to find an opportunity, stay out of sight, and sneak away.

This is where the new ability to see Ki from the Golden Veil became crucial!

"Is it because my urgent desire to escape triggered the emergence of this new ability?"

Yamiru considered this possibility.

Because, if it were just a random event, it would be too coincidental.

With the transformation of the Golden Veil, Yamiru felt a sense of calm settle within him. So, in the following days, before Dr. Gero had time to deal with him, Yamiru spent his time in the upright cultivation pod in the corner of the lab, using his newly developed Golden Veil to observe the outside world and adapt to this new ability.

When the lab once again filled with a group of white-coat researchers, Yamiru could almost certainly confirm that the humanoid shapes his Golden Veil saw were indeed Ki.

After all, while he could see the humanoid forms outside the wall, he couldn't exactly go out to confirm if they were real people.

When the researchers entered the lab to begin their work, Yamiru focused his mind, and indeed, he saw layers of bright white humanoid forms overlapping with the busy white-coats.

To verify, Yamiru even closed his eyes.

When he closed his eyes, his focus returned to his eyes, and sure enough, as long as he concentrated, his eyelids couldn't block his vision of the "white humanoid figures" moving around the room.

"Observing Ki with my eyes... this feels very much like Hunter x Hunter's nen technique. I'll call this ability 'Gaze'!" Yamiru casually named this new function of his Golden Veil.

Thus, while Yamiru kept his eyes closed inside the cultivation pod, he was actually using his Golden Veil's Gaze ability to observe the personnel flow within the facility.

He paid special attention to the regularly appearing and rotating Ki at the entrance. Yamiru carefully noted the rotation pattern.

However, Golden Veil weren't Byakugan. While it could see through walls to detect Ki, it couldn't truly give him X-ray vision. Therefore, Yamiru could only guess the layout of the facility, including where the hallways and open spaces were, where the doors were, and where they weren't, by observing the paths of Ki.

Furthermore, Yamiru noticed that the Gaze ability didn't make all the white humanoids appear identical.

Some of the humanoid shapes appeared faintly white. Yamiru discreetly opened his eyes and saw that the individuals with faint white outlines were all lean researchers.

Others had more intense, clearer white outlines. As expected, these researchers were the type who clearly paid attention to fitness.

"If the person is stronger—like old Sun (Goku) or Vegeta—would the 'Ki' become a fully-realized person?" Yamiru speculated.

At the same time, he continued to wait silently.

Unfortunately, even though the Red Ribbon Army used the cultivation pod to sustain his life, they also periodically injected muscle-suppressing agents through the tubes connected to his body. This kept Yamiru in a state where he couldn't exert any strength. Yamiru felt frustrated and anxious, thinking, This is probably the same sense of helplessness a Saiyan feels when their tail gets caught.

Another night passed.

The lab was quiet, save for the hum of machines. Every hour, someone would come in with a flashlight, conducting a simple patrol. Yamiru, expressionless in the corner of the cultivation pod, thought with a wry smile, "Maybe these patrolling guys don't even know that I, Yamiru, am stuck in this lab."

"Hm? What's that light? It doesn't look like an indicator from any machine…"

A flash of golden light appeared in Yamiru's eyes. Through the green nutrient liquid, he saw a faint glow coming from a shelf in a dark corner of the lab.

Although he couldn't be sure of the exact time, Yamiru had observed the lab for several days, so he was familiar with its layout. He was certain that the faint light was coming from a spot that, based on his observations earlier, shouldn't have any machinery nearby. What could that light be?

Suddenly, an idea struck him. He quickly closed his eyes and, peering through his eyelids, confirmed that the light was still glowing!

Could it be my half-senzu bean...? His mind raced, and a series of bubbles bubbled up near his oxygen mask. "At first, I thought this Golden Veil ability might be useless, but if I can even see the energy from a senzu bean, then this ability could be very useful after all!"

"I need to find a way to confirm if it's the senzu bean..."

"I wonder how the sword Jiora sent me is doing..."

Yamiru thought as he gradually fell asleep. After some time, he heard a "bang, bang, bang" sound. Slowly opening his eyes, he saw, through the deep green nutrient liquid, Blue standing outside the reinforced glass, observing him with a smug, disdainful expression. The person he despised was now so close, but Yamiru felt strangely calm.
