Dragon Ball Roshi

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: The Fifty-Year Deadline

Tam had just asked where his father was when Taro suddenly appeared.

He materialized on the lawn of their yard, and Hathaway, with a quick glance from the corner of her eye, noticed someone had appeared. She had long gotten used to her husband's ability to teleport. Sometimes, when she was too lazy to take the Phoenix to the city for shopping, she would send him to run errands instead.

---

"Hathaway, I've never bought household necessities before..." The first time Taro was sent to buy something, he had been helpless. After getting dressed, he was already feeling a bit of a headache.

"What did you do before? Rice, oil, salt, and furniture..."

Hathaway, still curled up on the bed, wrapped in her down blanket with only her fair, slender arms visible, rolled over lazily. As she moved, her blanket would occasionally slip, revealing her stunningly slender body — she liked lounging like that at home, bare beneath the covers. She looked at her husband, slightly puzzled, as he was dressed and ready.

Taro honestly replied, "I don't eat rice..."

"Huh?"

"I mean, if I don't have the conditions, I usually just eat wild fruits and the beasts I hunt... Sometimes, when I go to the city, I forget to buy rice, and I don't feel like going back for it... Anyway... you know, with my physique, it doesn't matter. As for furniture, I can make it myself, and the stuff we have at home is durable."

"Ah, I see..." Hathaway, who had been lying on her side, wrapped in the blanket, rolled over and said, "Don't forget to bring some..." She listed a number of foods and snacks.

She wasn't really listening, was she...

Taro's headache grew worse, especially since he didn't even recognize the snacks she mentioned.

"Come on, just look for them yourself," Hathaway said as she lay on her side, closing her eyes, giving him a pitiful look. "I'm pregnant, so you'll have to work harder..."

Taro could only shake his head, both helpless and amused.

After teleporting to West City and visiting his mother-in-law's house to ask about what Hathaway liked to eat, drink, and use, he finally bought everything she needed.

Before he could even put the items down, Hathaway was already lying in bed, arms wide open. "Hug me..."

"I'll put the things down first..."

"Use magic to put them away, I want you to hug me..."

"Hey, you're even better at using your abilities to be lazy..."

"I'm pregnant..."

"I'm scared of you now..."

---

Thinking of these sweet memories, Hathaway crouched by the pool, watching her husband approach with a smile on her lips, her eyes soft. In the morning light, she seemed bathed in a gentle glow.

"What are you thinking, smiling so happily?"

Taro had just finished his "morning practice" and returned.

In the past, he had trained on this island, but the noise from his training was often too loud. Now that there were two new residents on the island, he decided to move his training location to outer space to avoid disturbing them.

Seeing his wife holding their son and smiling at him, he asked with a smile, "What's got you so happy?"

"Dad!" Tam called out, jumping out of Hathaway's arms, running toward Taro.

Taro walked toward his son, and with a thought, Tam was lifted by an invisible force, his small feet kicking in midair as he "ran" toward Taro's embrace.

"Why are you so wet?" Taro asked, holding Tam in his arms.

"I was playing hide and seek with Cinder!" Tam laughed, "Dad, it was so much fun, I want to play more!"

"This child, so mischievous," Hathaway sighed as she walked over. "I was just thinking... should we send Tam to a school in West City?"

Tam was set down, and he ran off eagerly again.

"There's no need for that. You can teach him at home," Taro casually said, lifting their son again with telekinesis as he ran toward him. He teasingly added, "You're not thinking you're worse than those teachers, are you?"

In the original story, Goku's son, Son Gohan, was taught at home by a tutor and also studied on his own. In the end, he went to university and became a doctor.

As for Taro's son, Tam... like his older sister before him, he wasn't interested in martial arts training at all. So, going to school and integrating into modern society was the natural path.

Thinking about it, the martial artists in the original story, like Goku and others, were from a warrior race, naturally inclined toward fighting. But that's another matter entirely.

But... first, Krillin became a disciple of Master Roshi after being bullied by his fellow students at the Orin Temple; Tien and Chiaotzu were probably adopted by Tsuru and Tao Pai Pai at a young age, which led them to become assassins; Yamcha, I would guess, came from a poor family or was a wanderer, and had to practice martial arts to survive, robbing and stealing...

None of these people were initially interested in martial arts. In fact, such people are quite rare because starting martial arts is an extremely difficult and exhausting task.

As for Yumeko and Tam, both are Taro's children, growing up carefree, healthy, and bright. They were never inclined to train daily and endure the hardship of martial arts. Luckily, Taro was not one to insist that his children follow his path. He let them be, thinking that each generation has its own fortune, and that being happy each day was more important than practicing martial arts or becoming stronger.

Hathaway gave him a flirtatious glance, twirling a lock of her hair, and gently said, "I just don't want him to stay on the island all the time... He should have some friends his age."

"Mm." Taro nodded, agreeing with her.

"Then let's go to the West Capital in a couple of days. I'll have my parents help find a suitable school and handle the paperwork," Hathaway said.

"Let's not wait, let's go today," Taro replied.

"Alright," Hathaway agreed.

At that moment, Tam tried to jump out of Taro's arms again and run around, but Hathaway stopped him and scolded, "You've sweated so much already. Come on, Mommy will take you for a bath."

"Okay." Though a bit disappointed that he couldn't keep playing, Tam obediently followed his mother into their villa.

Taro watched the mother and son walk away, thinking, 'Tam... Although he inherited my ability to survive in space, it seems he hasn't inherited the God Tree's constitution... Just like Yumeko, she never showed any signs of awakening the Sharingan...'

Thinking about it, it made sense. Taro's ability to use the Sharingan without chakra was due to his unique existence — his soul, which had crossed over, essentially contained a special form of chakra.

As for his descendants... although they might have inherited his bloodline abilities, without chakra, even if they awakened a something, it would be ineffective.

After having a pleasant bath with Hathaway's help, Tam hurried back to Hathaway and Taro's bedroom. There, he skillfully found a notebook - like device on their nightstand. This was the personal laptop Hathaway developed under Taro's suggestion.

The laptop's style resembled the Apple from Taro's previous life, except the logo on the cover wasn't a bitten apple but a circular design with a star at the center — modeled after the Dragon Ball's one-star.

Tam deftly opened the "Dragon Ball" laptop. The screen quickly flashed the "One-Star" transition icon before entering the standby desktop. He swiped the touchpad a couple of times and opened a mini-game, happily engrossed in it. The part he couldn't pass yesterday, he was determined to conquer today, full of determination.

This was a simple, casual, and yet intellectually stimulating game that Hathaway made out of boredom. Of course, the truly challenging levels required manual adjustments. This game was originally designed by Hathaway to pass the time. The difficulty was so high that, even if Taro played it, he wouldn't get past a single level without using his mental power to calculate and predict.

Though Tam was clever, he was still far behind his mother.

"Tam, don't play too long. We're going to Grandma's for lunch," Hathaway called from the door of the bedroom.

"Okay!" Tam, still enjoying the game, nodded without looking up.

Hathaway chuckled helplessly.

In fact, it wasn't just the laptop. Taro had given Hathaway a whole series of gadgets from his previous life, like tablets, smartphones, and even ideas for the internet.

In the years after their marriage, Hathaway had done a lot of theoretical design work, and the general approach had already been laid out.

Though their married life was comfortable, Hathaway never forgot her desire to help her husband realize his "ambitions". There was still a long way to go before they could create what he needed, and many technical challenges remained.

However, Hathaway wasn't too interested in the smartphone and internet concepts that Taro provided.

She had simply sketched out a basic design and set it aside.

Because, to set up the internet and communication network, she would have to deal with the government, corporations, and society at large, which was something Hathaway wasn't keen on. Otherwise, she wouldn't have placed all her patents in her mother's name over the years.

---

At lunchtime, guests arrived at Hanna's house — her daughter, son-in-law and, most importantly, bringing their precious grandson, Tam.

"Let me see who's here?" Hanna greeted the three of them with a smile, picking up Tam.

"Grandma! Grandpa!" Tam sweetly called out.

"You're here." Hathaway's father had long since retired from the music industry and now spent his time at home. Seeing Taro and Hathaway bring their grandson over, he nodded at Taro as a greeting.

At the lunch table, Hathaway and her mother, Hanna, discussed which schools would be good for Tam, while Taro and his father-in-law casually chatted, enjoying their wine and exchanging pleasantries.

As for Tam, he had already taken the laptop and run off to who-knows-where...

At this moment, the voice of the North Kai, which hadn't been heard in decades, once again echoed in Taro's mind:

"Taro, the Other World Tournament is about to begin! If you have no other matters, come here, and I'll take you to the Grand Kai's planet. Hurry and resolve anything you need to; the guidance of the Grand Kai is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

Taro paused in the middle of a conversation, taken aback.

Fifty years... just like that, they had passed.
