Chapter 125
Pre-Rainbow Butterfly Battle
The next day.
Well, it’s not like there’d conveniently be any clues lying around.
There were no leads, so yesterday ended with me researching [Transparent Lock-On] in the mid-boss room.
The results showed that after leaving the mid-boss room, canceling [Transparent Lock-On] and using it again worked without any issues.
In fact, even if I entered the mid-boss room, summoned the Assassin Butterfly, and left without doing anything else, the effect still worked perfectly.
And so, with absolutely no meaningful results gained, me, Silphy, and the others are now—
“We’re heeere!”
“Still, this is the deepest part of the Scale Powder Dungeon, huh… Silphy, calm down a little.”
—standing at the lowest level of the Scale Powder Dungeon, where the boss room is located.
We really did end up with no clues at all.
Because of that, the journey here was mostly spent defeating Powder Butterflies to level up a bit and gathering medicinal herbs for potion ingredients.
Well, the herb gathering was mainly done by Dine, not me…
“But seriously, after Tiger Mountain’s dungeon, now this Scale Powder Dungeon… to come this far with zero results…”
If we reach the boss room without any clues this time too, that’ll make two dungeons in a row with nothing…
Well, this kinda thing just comes down to luck, so I’m not gonna complain, but still.
“Hmmm… It’s kinda depressing to get this far and find nothing~”
“I agree… I feel the same as Silphy.”
“Ahaha… Well, for now, let’s just head to the boss room.”
Right now, we’re standing in front of the door leading to the boss room on the lowest floor of the Scale Powder Dungeon.
Silphy’s wind-based scouting has already covered everything up to this point, leaving only the boss room itself.
…Let’s just get this over with.
There’s no way the boss of this dungeon is stronger than the Mithril Golem, after all.
The boss we’re about to face is the Rainbow Butterfly.
Unlike the Assassin Butterfly, the Rainbow Butterfly doesn’t have any special abilities like turning invisible.
Instead, the Scale Powder it scatters are far more potent, and the amount it spreads is much greater.
To put it plainly, if an adventurer who made it this far inhaled these Scale Powder for even five seconds without countermeasures, they’d immediately be hit with every status effect imaginable.
And unlike the Assassin Butterfly, which hides while spreading its Scale Powder, the Rainbow Butterfly releases them on gusts of wind, covering a wide area—making it far more dangerous than its smaller counterpart.
So, as usual, we’ll take it down fast.
“Oh, right. Silphy, Dine. I’ll give you both status-cure potions. If you feel even the slightest abnormality, drink it or pour it on yourselves immediately.”
“Got iit!”
“Understood. Thank you.”
I hand them the potions.
…Or at least, I try to.
“…Yeah, figures.”
I tried to give them the potions, but all I see is Silphy hugging the test tube containing the potion.
Dine? The moment I tried to hand it to her, she realized what would happen and gave it right back.
“Ngghhh…! K-Kaede, I thiiink holding onto this for even a second is impossible for me!”
“More like, you knew this would happen, didn’t you, Kaede?”
“Well, I kinda hoped maybe she could hold it…”
“…I’m partly to blame for not saying anything, but that was never gonna work.”
“Hahahaha… Yeah. Sorry.”
Guess not.
Well, it was just a hopeful thought, so no big deal.
For now, I’ll just put the potion Silphy returned into my [Item Box].
“If I get hit with a status effect, I’ll handle the recovery. Sorry to ask, but Kaede, could you heal me if I get affected?”
“Got it.”
“Umm… What about me?”
Silphy, now empty-handed, points at herself while asking.
Hmm… Well…
“Silphy, I’d like you to scout the room and back me up if I mess up.”
“Roger! Leave it to me!”
“Counting on you. …Alright. Now, let’s charge into the boss room!”
Turning back to the boss room door, I swing it open.
As usual, I enter first, holding the Dragon Tree Bow.
Silphy and Dine follow behind, stepping into the boss room.
The moment the two of them fully enter, the door shuts with a sound so familiar I’m almost tired of hearing it.
“Alright… Silphy, Dine, that’s the Rainbow Butterfly.”
I point at the Rainbow Butterfly fluttering its wings in the center of the room.
It’s scattering a grotesque amount of rainbow-colored Scale Powder, illuminated by the ceiling’s light source, but—
“…Uh, you say ‘that,’ but…”
“…We can’t see it…”
…Yeah, fair.
I knew from the info that it spreads a ton of Scale Powder, so that’s whatever.
…But come on, did it really have to scatter so many that even I—along with Silphy and Dine—can’t see it at all from below?!
I knew it’d happen, but it’s seriously invisible! …Well, whatever.
I’ve got a way to deal with it now, so let’s just take it down fast! Rainbow Butterfly!
