DUTY OR DEATH

Chapter 8: LIAR

COLIN'S POV

"Bye forever," I repeated her last word? resting my head on my car's stereo. 'She's really an interesting fella," a sarcastic laugh escaped me. Come on Colin, you shouldn't be merry over her dilemma. It isn't my fault either, I'm also in the mess too.

I dialed Jay's number anxiously, I wonder where he's at.

"Hello, boss." He said in a hurry as if he was waiting for my call.

"Where are you at?" I asked with nervousness.

"Grandma Violet." After a pause he added, "anything the matter boss?"

"Hmm, not really, I just want to see you. I'll be there in an hour's time."

"Okay, boss, I will be waiting." He said with a curious note on his voice. I hunged up in a hurry to get there.

'You reap whatever you sow,' I saw boldly written on a bus. 'Your judgement is near!' I saw on an advertisement board.

"What the hell !" I cursed as a reckless driver sped past my car.

"I'm outside!" I said angrily to Jay on the phone. I don't even know the reason I'm upset, but I do know those adverts are a part of it.

"Boss!" Jay called as he hurried to meet me in the parking garage.

"So what's the update concerning her?" I asked my mind wondering off to some destination I couldn't comprehend.

"Are you okay boss?" He stared at me with concern.

"I said, what's the update?!" I shouted with annoyance. I felt pissed but couldn't tell why.

"Are you on the edge?" He frowned.

"Why…?" I felt a sharp pang of pain.

"You're yelling. You only do that when you're stressed or probably angry.

"I paid her a visit today," I blurted.

"Whoa, you did? That's great! How did it go?" He beamed with excitement mixed with expectations.

"Hmm," I started, "it didn't go smoothly, but it's alright I will try harder and better. She's still sober, she's strong willed and independent, by the way she's used to losing someone and always been on her own. I really do feel pity for her although she hates me like hell !" I bite my lips.

"The measure of love can be equal to that of hate boss, just give her time to heal first. Surely there wouldn't be any Nate Stallion to snatch her away this time around." He laughed sarcastically.

"It's not funny Jay, on my way here I saw some weird adverts on a board and a bus. One read, 'you reap whatever you sow.' And the other, ' your judgement is at hand .' Something like that. I said calmly trying to avoid panicking.

"Hmm," he sighed. "About the findings you wanted me to do, she isn't with any child of yours. The doctor confirmed it, this is the result." He handed me an envelope, 'St. Peters hospital.' Was written on the front.

"God, dammit!" I yelled feeling frustrated throwing the envelope away. "This is one reason I hate them so much, they attack you at your weakest point and then render you shattered! You can't believe I actually believed her lies, I trusted her, I almost even made a promise to her. I thought she was a changed person, never knowing she was only back into my life to cause more ruins." I cried sitting on the floor.

"Colin, she doesn't deserve this, she doesn't deserve your tears, she's a bitch, she always have been and will continue to be." He hunched forward trying to comfort me.

"I feel so bad, I don't deserve anything good Jay, how could I have…"

"Ssshh!" He closed my mouth looking at all corners. "You should go back home!" He commanded .

"I don't want to ." I lay down on the floor feeling annoyed with myself.

"Colin… is that you?" I heard an elderly voice behind us.

"Grandma…" I stood up quickly arranging my clothes.

"Colin..? What were you doing laying down on the floor?" She asked staring at me with curiosity.

"Nothing grandma." I went over to hug her.

"Are you okay son?" She gently placed her hands on my face.

"Yes grandma, I am."

"Colin was just about leaving grandma." Jay threw me from her side.

"No he wasn't, what happened Colin? I overheard you lamenting on some wrong you did, what's that child?" She smiled tenderly at me.

Jeez I was beyond shocked, I wondered what part she must have heard. I couldn't just tell a lie, she was beyond smart. I kept my gaze on Jay's face, he was my only help in such scenarios.
