Chapter 36: I Thought This Was War?
"So, how are we going to deal with the Old Satan Faction in the meantime, Commander Sirzechs?" I asked solemnly, my mind already swirling with the weight of the impending conflict. I wasn't planning to die in this war, but I wouldn't shy away from fighting for decades if that's what it took.
"We were planning to discuss that tomorrow," Sirzechs replied, his tone a mix of seriousness and concern. "Why don't you rest up a bit?"
I nodded and bid him goodbye. He and his mother stepped into a magic circle. The brown-haired woman smiled warmly, and as the circle's glow shifted to a red hue, she spoke. "Thank you for saving my life."
"It was no problem, really," I reassured her. "Just helping out a fellow comrade."
Her smile deepened as the circle's radiance intensified. Slowly, the light motes began to vanish, taking them with it.
I sighed, a small smile tugging at my lips as I shook my head, amused by the entire situation.
The only reason I joined the war was mainly because of Serafall. If you think it's all about getting better chances with a harem, you wouldn't be entirely wrong.
Don't get me wrong—I have morals, and I've already chosen Serafall as my potential partner. I've made up my mind on that matter. But if she suggests a harem, or if my affection isn't returned in the same way... what am I supposed to do?
Honestly, I had no idea.
All I knew was that Serafall was all that mattered. I would protect and fight alongside her the best I could. Besides, tall girls are overrated—I want to try someone shorter. If push comes to shove, I'll keep the harem as small as possible.
"Did you just think something rude about me?" a small figure, barely reaching my chest, said with a pout.
I sometimes forget her temper is as short as she is...
"Hey?!"
Okay, she's reading my mind. I knew Kaito was a woman in disguise!
Let's get back to the important matters. I need to make a decision right now.
What's the point of having eleven women to yourself? You wouldn't even be able to give them the attention they deserve. One woman is enough, and if that isn't possible, then less than five should—
"Planning to head home?" Serafall asked, curiosity laced in her voice.
My mouth twitched in irritation. Was she trying to ruin my train of thought on purpose?
I smiled—wide, as if it was the biggest smile I could ever muster—just before we teleported.
"I didn't think you'd be so desperate to get into bed, Serafall."
The scenery shifted, tents coming into view.
Serafall's face turned rosy in an instant. She glared at me before declaring, "Stop being a pervert!"
"Huh? Aren't you tired from today's workout? I thought you needed some rest after everything, y'know." I raised an eyebrow.
"S-Stop saying things that other people would misinterpret!" she stammered, but her face was now completely red.
I blinked before replying in a dry tone, "Serafall, get your head out of the gutter."
Maybe it was because she finally understood the meaning behind my words, but… was that frown a good sign?
Natsumi hadn't expected to return from a life-and-death situation only to be met with… this.
And yet… and yet…
Perhaps it was because no one else was around, but Serafall stood there with a swollen hand, her eyes watery, while Hisashi casually whistled, gazing up at the sky as if he hadn't a care in the world.
She connected the dots immediately but decided to hear it from them directly.
"What happened between you two?" she asked, folding her arms.
"Natsumi-tan! Your son is cruel!" Serafall cried out like a wounded puppy, seeking help from its owner.
Hisashi flailed his hands in defense, playing the innocent fool. "Hey, in my defense, you hit me first! I didn't even do anything!"
"Let me guess… you used Hierro."
"You and I both know that's a basic survival technique in a house full of women!" He huffed, still on the defensive.
"I almost lost my teeth last time because of you, Baka!"
"Don't blame me for your misfortune, Chibi-tan!"
"Damn you, Hisashi!"
"Screw you too, Serafall!"
They all just laughed at the foolishness of it all. Hisashi has the tendency of finding humour in the worst possible times. His exact words to describe the reason behind this:
We all need a touch of happiness in life. If we're all gloomy then out lives will become dull eventually.
Wait, why do I feel like I am in deep trouble?
---
A certain bat was on the floor with blood coming out of his broken nose and smoke rising from his head. He was within a crater, while a sliver haired woman with red eyes stood there.
The funny think was how her hand also release smoke, which made it clear that she was the cause of all this.
"Damn! I think I smell pork!" One devil said with a gulp, contemplating the scene before him.
The woman known as Grayfia Lucifuge was seriously not in a good mood. The poor guy got sucker punched for who knows why.
"Which one?" A calm, almost synthetic like voice sounded. "Which one of you made fun of my height?!"
"But we said nothing young lad–"
"But you definately thought of something rude."
What is wrong with this woman?
Meanwhile, a certain blond was sweating bullets, "I feel like someone is out for blood."
