Chapter 20: 19. From Wolves to Vampires
Only two weeks had passed since the beginning of school, but Hachiman was already damn tired. On this long-awaited weekend, he was going to get a good night's sleep and read the chapters of his favorite web novels that had accumulated over the week, without leaving the confines of his cozy room, but things don't always go the way you want. The guy's phone rang with an ominous melody that he had set for a certain non-person. Hachiman's feeling was confirmed when his friend suggested meeting him at a nearby cafe. All the teenager's excuses were ignored, and after the threat, which was exactly what it was for the guy who adhered to the expression "my home is my castle", of the dragon to come visit him, Hikigaya agreed.
Despite the beginning of autumn, the weather was in no hurry to match the calendar, giving people additional warm days before the onset of cold weather. With a jacket thrown over his shoulders, Hachiman slowly approached the meeting place. The young man noticed the reason for the disruption of his own plans from afar. Even dressed in a normal outfit, the dragon stood out significantly from the background of ordinary people.
Sitting on the veranda, Silence unconsciously attracted the glances of those around him. The young man himself did not react in any way, immersed in his phone, periodically stroking the dog peacefully lying at his feet. The wild appearance of the black-haired animal was more reminiscent of a wolf, but its obedient behavior and collar on its neck calmed people down. Although Hachiman would not be surprised if it really was a wild predator.
— Hello. So why did you call, — the guy greeted him lazily, sitting down opposite his friend. — Before you called, I was going to have a good time.
— Ha! I know your have a good time, — Sai shook his hand with a smile, putting the gadget aside, — you will probably lock yourself in your room and get stuck on the computer, reading all sorts of nonsense.
— Hey! For me, this is a wonderful pastime. Not everyone likes to travel around the world causing mayhem.
— You're so boring, Hachiman, — the dragon crumpled up the napkin and threw it at him. — Where's your teenage spirit of adventure? Your thirst for fun?
— The same place where the pink days of my school life died in terrible agony, — the teenager had already gotten used to his friend's childish side, so he didn't react at all. — So why did you call him?
— How are you? — The guy's mask of calm cracked upon hearing this. His eye twitched, greatly amusing Silence, judging by the grin that spread across his face. — Hitori complained that she had to participate in a school play at the upcoming cultural festival, and you were supposedly harnessed to be the organizer.
— Ha-a-a! If my opinion was taken into account, I would never have signed up for this, — Hachiman leaned back in his chair, staring at the sparse clouds. — Too stressful for a loner like me.
— I already know you well, you could easily find an excuse for all this, but for some reason you didn't.
— If it were someone else, I could, — the teenager agreed with him, — but this ultimatum was issued by Hiratsuka, so I had no choice. She is also in charge of preparing the festival, so I have little opportunity to dodge it. All that remains is to choose the simplest and easiest job.
— Ha! You are not even together yet, and you are already under her thumb, — Sai said with a grin. — Or have you already started dating?
— N-no! Stop talking nonsense again, — this question upset Hikigaya so much that he ignored the first part and immediately began to make excuses. — She is a teacher, and I am her student — there can be nothing between us. Society will not accept such a relationship.
— Right now, you are the only one talking nonsense here, Hachiman. If you are attracted to each other, and you feel comfortable next to each other, — Silence raised his hand, stopping the attempt to interrupt him, — and I saw with my own eyes that this is so, then I don't care about the rest. The opinions of unknown people? This gray mass simply does not make sense, — the young man did not hide his voice on purpose, and when he looked at the audience listening to their conversation, everyone hid their faces from Sai's predatory gaze. — They will envy your relationship with such an amazing woman, unable to achieve such happiness on their own.
— It's easy for you to talk about such things, — Hachiman answered pessimistically. He looked at his friend with admiration and a drop of envy. — You do not live by the rules of people. Unlike me, who has to play by their rules.
— Weren't you the one who said that it's better not to bend over, but to bend the world yourself? — Despite his usually lazy and weak-willed appearance, there was a strong core hidden inside the teenager. He had already formed his own personality and beliefs, ready to resist the attacks of the outside world by any means, asserting his own rightness. The dragon saw this with his magical gaze, and he liked this selfish approach. — Stop restraining your own desires and looking around — act! Well, and if you have problems, then I will help. After all, what else are friends for?
Hachiman was struck by the intensity and sincerity directed at him. For the first time, he felt that he could really rely on someone and that they would support him. Overwhelmed by various feelings, the teenager could not immediately find the words to respond.
— ... thank you.
— No problem. Better tell me how things are going in this club where your girlfriend dragged you.
— We are not dating, — the teenager responded more cheerfully to his interlocutor's tease. — Not as bad as it could have been. Initially, my classmate volunteered to head the committee, who does not understand anything about such things and, to be honest, she is still a fool. However, after that, she asked for help from my club, and Yukinoshita usurped power. Now everyone is in her iron grip.
— This ice queen? — Hachiman nodded affirmatively. — Not bad. How is she?
— Well... it's not entirely clear, — the guy tried to find words under the dragon's curious gaze. — It seems like she's trying to avoid me. We still continue to be in the same club, but now Yukinoshita doesn't talk and generally tries to ignore me. I can't say that I don't like it. It has become more pleasant to be in the club room, but I don't quite understand the reason for this. I definitely didn't do anything that could provoke such an attitude.
— Curious. When did this happen?
— In the summer. More precisely, right after the trip to the children's camp. Maybe she didn't like my way of solving that girl's problem? What do you think?
— Not necessarily, — Sai immersed himself in himself, remembering what happened at the camp and after it. — Tell me, does her family have a high status?
— Yes. Yukinoshita's father occupies a significant position in the political party, and her family is also part of one of the largest conglomerates, so it has weight in the economic part as well.
— In that case, I can guess what it is, — seeing his friend's curiosity, he did not drag it out. — Most likely, the girl's family is connected with the guardian clans or other members of the supernatural world. Her sister reacted too unnaturally when she heard our names.
— Are you that famous?
— Not us, but rather Ophis is very famous, — the young man said with a wry smile. — By the way, it was because of her cheerful adventures that I did not get in touch last week.
— You were busy with something, that's why there were no photos from the new trip?
— Exactly! — Sai almost jumped on the spot, anticipating Hachiman's reaction. — My last name Ouroboros is taken from Ophis. Does it mean anything to you?
— Well, the only thing that comes to mind is the symbol of infinity — a snake biting its own tail.
— Excellent. So, Ophis is not an ordinary snake — she is the God Dragon of Infinity. The strongest being in this world. All the gods you know from human religions won't be able to defeat her even if they combine their powers.
— Are you serious? — Hikigaya couldn't reconcile the girl who was always clinging to Goto or Silence with the image described. — You're not kidding?
— Absolutely! Do you have your headphones with you?
— Yes.
— Get them out, — the boy moved his chair next to the teenager, taking out his phone. — I have a video that is only shown on the devil network and is not available on the normal network.
They shared the headphones and began watching the broadcast of the Infinity Dragon. With funny comments about the people shown in the video, Hachiman watched the incredible scene with wide eyes. After the recording ended, he looked in shock at the dark—haired wolf lying next to them.
— Is this the one I'm thinking of?
— This is Hachi, — Sai introduced the wolf cub. — The baby I would like to give to you.
— Are you kidding?! — Hachiman couldn't hold back his voice. A slight panic seeped into his voice. — Do you want this mythical monster to be in my house next to ordinary people? I will never expose them to such danger.
— Calm down, Hachi, — the dragon pressed on his shoulder, sitting the boy who had jumped up in his place. — There is no danger for you in this, quite the opposite.
— What are you talking about? — the teenager asked, having calmed down more or less. — Am I in any danger?
— You know, — Silence decided to approach from afar, — we do not hide our meetings, so many people know that you, an ordinary person, hang out with us. I'm sure there's no crazy, suicidal person willing to incur my and Ophis's wrath, but never underestimate the idiocy of people. There will always be individuals willing to do hopeless things for the sake of their stupid ideas.
— So, use me against you?
— True, but not only. There are parasites, — the dragon grimaced, trying to briefly explain about renegade demons, — that can simply attack a person for food or entertainment. Hitori's parents just suffered from such an attack, so Hachi will protect you and your family from danger if anything happens. He is very smart and understands human speech perfectly. Just order him, and he will carry out your command, and you don't need to worry about aggression on his part, — the young man ran his hand over the matte black collar. — He simply won't have time to harm you or your loved ones — the snake will crush his neck instantly.
— You mean that there is a snake hanging on his neck?
— Yes, the power of Ophis. Outwardly, it is no different from an ordinary collar.
— O-okay. Where is the second one then?
— Ophis is currently meeting with Hitori, handing it to her.

After a hectic few days, the life of the Ouroboros family returned to its usual course. Having transferred the obedient puppies to a new home, they left Fenrir to guard the house and went on a journey again. This time, the couple plus Nobu chose Romania as their destination.
In addition to its popularity due to Count Dracula, this country is known for its ancient buildings and nature. Thanks to the magic of teleportation, they managed to visit all the numerous castles, fortresses and natural attractions in one day. They made a jump in the mountains, almost two kilometers, scaring the few tourists. The dragons easily avoided falling thanks to their wings, and the hero's descendant used her own mechanism. Creating muskets under herself, she gradually slowed down.
Having spent most of the day and visited everything outside the city, they headed to the capital Bucharest. Having rented two hotel rooms, it was decided to spend the evening at the Romanian Athenaeum, the most popular theater in the country. Inside the building, the walls around the stage were covered with colorful drawings, captivating many visitors with colorful and colorful pictures.
The two-hour performance ended, bringing a good impression to the dragons, and a great night's sleep for Oda.
— And what could you like about it? — the girl asked, hiding a yawn with her hand. — As for me, it would be better to watch a movie.
— You can watch a movie at home, — Ophis said, continuing to walk slightly ahead of their bodyguard. Snuggling up to her lover, she walked along the night streets of the capital. — Now we travel to enjoy new experiences and try new things. If there is an opportunity to visit the best theater in the country, I see no reason to refuse it.
— As you wish, — she could only agree. Nothing depended on her anyway. — Where to next? I would love to grab a bite to eat.
— Agreed. It's late, so it's time for dinner, — the young man went to his phone to look for the nearest restaurant. — There's a good place fifteen minutes from here.
— Then what are we waiting for? — Nobu instantly cheered up. Taking a pose, she pointed her finger at him. — Go ahead, lead the way!
As they walked, the girl hummed to herself and waved her arms widely. Many passersby were attracted by the unusual sight. The descendant of Nobunaga did not give up her habit of dressing. She was wearing a black military suit, a cap, and white gloves. A red cloak fluttered behind her in time with her movements. The couple in front of her simply chose ordinary clothes, popular among people now.
— A-a-a-a! H-help! — a muffled female scream was heard in the alley ahead of them.
— Hold her! — Someone ordered, and everything went silent.
Passing by a dark alley, they were able to notice three young men holding a disheveled woman. Noticing the passersby, she mumbled something in an attempt to break free, but was unable to resist her captors.
— Eh, how stupid are leeches that they can't even set up a concealment barrier first during their hunt, — Sai shook his head in disappointment, looking at the three non-humans. — Although what did I expect from these stupid and arrogant losers.
— Leeches? — Oda looked at them in bewilderment. — Really vampires?
— Yeah. A race that considers itself the best in the world, but in fact they are just nobodies that no one takes seriously, — the young man looked at the men staring at them with superiority. — They are also fighting among themselves, divided into a female and male group.
— Ha-ha-ha! Feminism has already reached the mystical world, — having laughed, she turned away from them. — Let's go already, I'm hungry.
— Yeah, let's go.
— Stop! — They hadn't even taken a few steps before two vampires rushed at them, leaving the victim with his last comrade. — You've seen too much.
Although Silence didn't hide his voice, the sounds of the machines and the woman's fluttering prevented his mockery from being heard.
— How scary, — the dragon instantly created a barrier around them. — Nobu, your turn.
— Excellent, — twenty guns appeared in the air. — The sooner you die, the sooner we can go to dinner. Die!
Amid the roar of gunshots, both vampires turned into a sieve. It took ten seconds for two noble children of the night to die at the hands of a human.
— Well done. Now you can order everything for yourself without restrictions, — Ophis spoke up with a slight smile. — Taking you was a good decision.
Thus joking, they walked towards the restaurant, completely ignoring the human and the vampire frozen in shock.
***
In the middle of the night, when the dragons had just recently gone to bed, after a long time of satisfying their own passion, a whole bunch of hostile creatures appeared in their perception.
— They really remind me of mosquitoes, the same annoying insects, — the young man complained weakly, not even trying to free himself from the embrace. — What are we going to do?
— Nothing, — Ophis settled more comfortably on the guy's chest. — We'd better watch Nobu's reaction.
— Ha-ha-ha! She won't like this. I want to see it!
While the couple was preparing to watch the upcoming show with interest, the intruders split into two groups, ten in each. They slowly approached the entrance to the rooms where their targets were staying.
When the vampires learned of the death of their kind at the hands of the Sacred Gear bearer, they decided to take revenge on their offenders. According to the data collected in a short time, one of the three was a human, and the other two did not emit a strong aura. (Let's not forget about Silence's passive dragon aura) The leader of the nest chose the best available fighters to teach the presumptuous intruders a lesson. This is their land, their feeding trough, where they can do whatever they want.
At the signal, a blow was struck at each door. Nobu's room was easily opened, while the dragons' door did not even budge. Sai's magic completely blocked the possibility of breaking in to them. A girl's scream was heard from the room next to them, followed by an incessant cannonade of shots, combined with fading groans of pain. The vampires who had failed to break into the Ouroboros room rushed to help their comrades, not noticing how the closing pair disappeared into the dark smoke.
Two minutes later, the dragons entered Oda's room. The entire room was completely destroyed. The furniture was broken or overturned, the walls were covered in bullet and magic strikes. Vampire corpses and a huge pool of blood were scattered all over the floor. The culprit of the mess was quickly putting on her clothes, standing on the remains of a bed. As soon as the couple crossed the threshold, bullets from the muskets that had appeared immediately flew at them, and the stunned girl pointed the created pistol at the new guests.
— Not a very hospitable welcome, — the young man commented, easily blocking the attack. — You need to be more friendly with your employers.
— What was that and why didn't you help me?!! I almost died here when, before I could even wake up properly, I had to dodge the magic flying from the doorway.
— Don't make any noise.
— As Ophis said, don't be so loud, — the dragon looked at the sweaty girl with a never-fading smile. — This is simply the result of your hunger. You had to finish off the third vampire to avoid their attack.
— That's it, I'm calm, — after taking a few deep breaths and exhaling, she pulled herself together. — What are we going to do now?
— A stupid question. Of course, revenge!
— How do we find out where they are? There are no survivors left.
— That's where you're wrong, — a magic circle lit up on the floor, and two bound vampires appeared. — I managed to capture a couple. Will you try to get information?
— No, — she shook her head. — Torture is not my thing. Better do it yourself.
— As you wish, — without ceremony, Silence placed his palm on the tied man's head, using mental magic. Without caring about the victim's condition, he forcefully tore out the necessary information, completely destroying his personality. — Now I know their base in this city. In total, there are about seventy bloodsuckers there now, not counting their slaves and food. There is no one particularly strong among them. This nest appeared recently, so you should not expect anything special.
— Are we going there?
— Yes, but you will deal with them alone. Consider this your next test.
— Okay, — the girl quickly agreed, smiling mischievously. — But can you get me a red hat and orange glasses?
— ... HA-HA-HA! — At first, Silence did not really understand why she needed this, but suddenly a picture of the anime they had watched together recently popped into his head. — Of course, of course. I'll be happy to help you with that.
Using illusion magic, the dragon changed Oda's appearance. Instead of a red cloak, a red coat appeared on her body; a magic circle appeared on the back of her white gloves; her cap turned into a red hat, and round glasses with orange lenses appeared on her face.
— This is a dense illusion. I poured in a large amount of magical energy, so it won't dissipate so easily.
— Thank you, — two huge pistols appeared in her hand, and she made a half-bow towards the Infinity Dragon. — Your orders, mistress.
— My orders have not changed, Nobu, — Ophis picked up their game with a smile. — Search and destroy! Search and destroy!
